The tropane alkaloids are a unique group of molecules that are present in the Solanaceae or Nightshade family and include atropine, hyoscyamine, and scopolamine (hyoscine). These alkaloids are the source of the plants ability to have a pronounced biological effect by acting on the brain’s neurotransmitters. I am fascinated by the behavior of these substances on both the human body, as well as their behavior in different stages of the preparation process. You will notice the similarity between atropine and hyoscyamine being almost identical. Hyoscyamine goes through the racemization process when exposed to heat or chemical reactions. pH plays a pivotal role when working with alkaloids. I will be discussing the processes in my upcoming Poison Path Formulary Course. I am not recording this course because of the proprietary nature of some of the content. I will be offering the course again in the near future! I am looking forward to seeing you all there! #toxicology #phytochemistry #poisonpath #thepoisonpath #tropanealkaloids #entheogens #nightshade #solanaceae #hyoscyamine #scopolamine #atropine #hyoscine #datura #henbane #deadlynightshade #mandrake #veneficium #poisonpathformulary https://www.instagram.com/p/CK7LjiOndH3/?igshid=34pxmioou7gj
