Early thoughts about Scarlet (I am just about to set out on the school treasure hunt):
So far the game seems very generous with its resources. You almost don’t need to buy potions or plain Pokéballs if you pick up everything you see when you’re roving around. There’s also a greater variety of Pokémon catchable early on, with a good mixture of new friends and old faves, rather than a first route where you mostly just get this region’s standard bird, bug and small mammal. Obviously some people will dislike this as making the game too easy, but to them I say Nuzlocke.
Nemona is cute and I like her.
Mesagoza is too big and confusing to navigate. I don’t know if they’re being satirical about Starbucks with all those Seabreeze Café locations around town but it’s a bit annoying. I haven’t really figured out what the point of the food effects is, but they’re so abundant it seems like they’re supposed to be important.
I want to give Nurse Joy and Pokémart Guy chairs to sit on! Can’t they have a kitchenette? They’re all exposed to the elements and their enclosure looks barren and uncomfortable! I hope at least they’re friends and enjoy talking to each other between customers.
Arven is kind of a dingus but his hair entertains me and I’m probably going to help him with his quest first. I don’t like Cassiopeia because they hacked my phone. Fuck off Cassiopeia, I will probably do your quest last. Especially as I don’t actually bear the star kids any ill will. They’re not threatening or anything! They’re just more dorks in the vein of Team Skull (but without the hip-hop posturing).
(I expect Cassiopeia turns out to be Penny, the mopey girl with the fluffy Eevee bag.)
It’s such an odd choice that these games are still not voice acted.
