Hey guys, shit is coming down in Poland, we need your help.
Yesterday, on 7th August 2020, 54 people were detained during the protest in defence of Margot, a queer non binary activist (she/her). As for today, 8 of these people are still unaccounted for and their location is kept secret by authorities.
Margot has been arrested to serve her sentence of 2 months in jail for “damaging private property”. The private property in question was a truck with homophobic slogans equating queer people to pedophiles and stating that the primary purpose of sex ed is grooming kinds to become better victims. They also have loudspeaker through which they spread even more hateful speech while they drive around the Polish cities (yes, this is an organized action that spreads through whole Poland.) What Margot did was to slice the tires of one of these vans and threw some paint on the slogans, after the organization owning these cars failed to comply with a court order to remove them from the streets, instead gaining POLICE ESCORT. We all feel that the sentence Margot got was unjust and damaging, thus the PEACEFUL protest.
Margot tried to comply with the court order and pleaded with the police to take her into custody peacefully before the protest got too big - the pigs refused, brutally detaining her, and 54 other people only after emotions got high. None of the arrested protesters was breaking any law - the witnesses heard the pigs say things like “grab three more of them, at random”. After the arrest they refused their lawyers and MPs who came to intervene access to the detained and any information about these people and further proceedings. They also moved them between precincts, without informing anyone about their destinations.
Today more protests are organized around the country - we're scared, we're angry and we need everyone to know what's happening here. We don't know what will happen.
This was also not an isolated incident. For the past few years the governing party, with the full consent of our President, has been running a hate campaign aimed at the queer/LGBT citizens of Poland. We had bricks and stones thrown at us at Prides, last year, on Lublin Pride a right-wing terrorist couple was arrested in the crowd with homemade explosives. Our President signs declarations that are targeting our rights and local authorities thorough the country are adapting "LGBT-free zone" resolutions. Hanging a rainbow flag on a statue is framed as "agression" and "vandalism" worthy of Presidential flowers, but the government and media are quiet when real, physical aggression is aimed at us.
Spread the word, donate if you can, if you're from Europe, write to your EU representatives to pay attention to these events. Don't let them get away with that. Don't let them start pogroms.

In the wake of activists and protesters who are fighting bravely for the rights of LGBTQ+ people in Poland, yet again they have another poignant message to spread this Wednesday.
Miłość to po prostu miłość = Love is just love.
