an addendum to my previous ask:

people prefer ships with c!thomas to ships with remrom

ships with remrom are the least preferred

Yep! Remrom has.... never really stood a chance in this. People may have their reservations about c!Thomas and the closeness to RPF (which is what i've seen across the internet) but they REALLY hate Remrom. When I posted the first Remrom poll (it went against Roceit) I was somewhat fighting an uphill battle to justify including it

AND YET, at the same time, I got a lot of activity while the poll was open and also after it was closed from Remrom fans happy to see their favorite represented.

Remrom is one of the most interesting ships to simply study, because it is simoultaneously the most unanimously agreed upon ship in the fandom and ALSO the single most devise ship in the fandom. It lost to a large margin, and it's chances were not helped by the fact that it went against a pretty popular ship.

With observations from each poll, I wonder if Remrom COULD have won a round if it had gone against a c!Thomas ship. It likely would not have, but that is probably the only scenario in which it had a fighting chance.

Some interesting insights and statistics from my Life Series Poll series!

-The poll with the most votes was the Double Life teams poll with 791 votes, and the poll with the least votes was the April Fools winners poll with 239 votes. The team poll with the least votes is Simple Life with 302. Interestingly, Simple Life always gets last or second last in the other polls on seasons overall as well, whilst Double Life won both the mechanics poll and the winners poll, and only lost the stupidest deaths poll, getting fourth in iconic moments and aesthetics, second in best kill and third (fourth if you consider joint second as taking third place away) as a season overall.

-The team that received the most votes in their poll was the Bamboozlers with 258, followed by Desert Duo with 230 and Bad Boys with 228. Bamboozlers also take no.1 for poll votes overall

-Bamboozlers were also the team that won by the biggest margin, with 142 votes between them and second place! Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss 2 take second with an 80 vote gap, and Desert Duo third with 63 votes difference

-The largest winning margin overall was joint between Bamboozlers and Yes for the April Fools winners with 142 votes, then 112 from the species poll, then 104 for King of the Ladder

-The smallest gap between 1st and 2nd in all polls was just 1 vote! This happens with the Scottage Alliance, Boat Boys, and Etho pit trap

-The losing options with the highest number of votes were T.I.E.S (when added to B.I.T.ES) with 59 votes (50 alone), Dogwarts 2 with 49 votes, and Big Dogs with 41 votes

-Only 5 options received no votes. These were Simple Life in the mechanics poll, Real Life in the aesthetics poll, Repeat Winner and Didn't Deserve in the April Fools poll, and Simple Life in the fav series overall poll

-Moreover, only 5 options received 1 vote; Avenger Tower, Simple Life in the aesthetics poll, Only Scott in the April Fools poll, Pit of Zombies in embarrassing death poll, and Real Life in the fav series overall poll

-We also had 8 ties; Shadow Alliance and Snowfort for 8th, Zombiewood and Martyn solo for 9th, Last Life and Secret Life for 3rd in the aesthetics poll, Yes all and Yes multiple for 2nd in the species poll, Mumbo on fire and Ladder to skynet for 2nd in the embarrassing deaths poll, Enchanter bomb and soloing the Wither for last in the impressive kills poll, Etho weeping angel and “he loves me…he cares, he does” for 8th in the iconic moments poll, and Limited Life and Secret Life for 2nd in the fav series overall poll

I have created a spreadsheet based on the wonderful polls by @insideno9bracket and now I am here to give you some solid facts (it's about 1000 words long, I sincerely apologise).

First off, I looked at the general data.

The mean amount of votes per poll was a nice round 90 (to the nearest whole number), with a SD of 11.6 (quite a lot).

The mode was 83, and the median 89.5 (meaning there are a few outliers at the top).

The mean amount of notes per poll was 17 (to the nearest whole number), with 10 of were likes and 7 were reblogs (the number of comments proved to be almost negligible, with a mean of 0.25 comments per poll).

Firstly, I think this shows the general trend on Tumblr of moving away from reblogs and towards likes (a trend that other Tumblr users have made way more interesting posts about, so I won't go into detail about this here). Due to the nature of these polls, I really enjoy reading people's reblog-tags, so I urge you to reblog more next round so I have a good time lol.

Secondly, it shows that only 19% of the people who voted also interacted with the post in another way (not taking into consideration those who liked AND reblogged). Again, I feel like we can do better than this next round. I want to know why you choose the episode you choose! Give me those unhinged and insanely biased tags, reblog with propaganda of why people should vote for a specific episode! It’s what these polls are all about!

Next up, let's take a look at the most popular polls and episodes.

Now, the main take-away from this is how insanely popular BCDR is. It got more votes by itself, than all other polls did in total. Another take-away is the popularity of Sardines and How Do You Plead (we’ll seem them again in the “closest calls” part of this post). People really fought for both those episodes. My last take-away for now, is that we are all insanely predictable and I love that for us lol. Of course Plodding On and The Stake Out are in the top 3, of course they are. 

If we look at the most voted for polls/episodes, we of course also need to look at the least voted for (or as I’d like to call it; the bit of this post that would get Reece annoyed).

The top 3 least voted for polls were:

A couple of points on this, Private View vs Boo To a Goose was the first poll to happen, which I believe is the main reason this poll received so few votes. Secondly, some of the episodes in this top 3 were just unlucky with which episode they were up against and aren’t bad episodes per se (to be fair, are there any actual bad episodes? I think not. Just popular and less popular ones). For example, The Referee’s a W***er was up against Cold Comfort (which got 91% of the votes), and Nana’s Party was up against BCDR (which got 92% of the votes). 

This brings me nicely to the point of win margins.

The biggest win margins are all quite straightforward; iconic episodes vs average episodes. Not much to say about that. The smallest win margins are either between two average episodes, or two iconic episodes (/documentaries).

I wonder if perhaps there could be a “golden ticket” poll at some point, to get one of these just-didn’t-win episodes back into the competition (@insideno9bracket)? 

Lastly, I looked at the most and least interacted with polls. 

Top 3 most interacted with polls:

Death Be Not Proud vs The Stake Out (28 notes)

Nana’s Party vs Bernie Clifton’s Dressing Room (25 notes)

Tempting Fate vs Wise Owl & The Last Weekend vs Mulberry Close (24 notes) 

Makes a lot of sense, people are very passionate about these episodes.

It’s either because people weren’t too fussed about these 3 polls (seems unlikely, but alright), or everyone was busy when these polls came out lol. If anyone has a better explanation, I’d love to hear it. 

Some extra thoughts: 

A lot of this was more or less as I expected, though I thought The Trolley Problem would feature more heavily at the top (it ranks 10th in amount of votes). 

I cannot wait for round 2 and seeing if the current trends continue, or if new pairings will change it all up!

are you more or less likely to like the percy jackson show if you have adhd?

TL;DR at the bottom

this whole idea came about because i was seeing people complain about the pacing of the show and i was so confused because i thought the pacing was perfect and then i thought maybe it's because i have adhd and so of course i would think the pacing was great and so i ran a poll to look at the results and here are those results

important things to note

a) i have adhd (diagnosed)

b) i study a stem degree

ok here we go

short answer

statistically no, but i disagree (i'll get to it)

longer answer

i did a poll comparing if you have adhd and if you like the show, these were the results (and here so you can see how i wanted people to answer)

(yes i voted, my opinion also counts)(and yes, there are flaws in the design but i only had 12 options and this was mainly about adhd)

and idk about you but looking at those numbers i can see a few things

number 1: most people like the show, 87.8% in fact

and if you take out the people that didn't care, it's 92.9% of people who did care aka a lot

quick stats rundown

for everyone with adhd (thats the first 6 options) 3% didn't like the show

for those with other neurodiversities and not adhd, it was 12%

yeah, thats 4 times higher (it works out at a whole 2 people but again, limits of the poll)

ANYWAY, i ran some statistical tests (don't stress, i don't understand them either, i will not be focussing on them)

first, chi squared (compares expected values for each option with the actual values i got)

yeah that number is small, like very small, like 2.8 quintillionths

but i ran it in R and got a very different number

and oh lookie here that's a p-value about 0.05 and so we must accept the null hypothesis (basically that yeah, that's expected)

which makes NO SENSE but whatever, the computer tells me it's that

enough of chi-squared, i also ran a z-test (i googled what to do and apparently this was the right test, idk what it does ngl)

i didn't run this one in R bc i have no idea how to do that

but the p-value is again, about 0.05 and so accept that there is no significant difference

BUT I DISAGREE

ok i don't disagree with the stats but i disagree that there isn't a difference

it doesn't take a genius to see the difference

3% of people with adhd didn't like the show but 12% of other nd's did like-

come on that has to mean something

so i ran a chi squared test on just the adhd data and...

wha-

so did it in R and got a warning saying it probably wasn't accurate (it's probably the 0) so i ran fishers exact test (idk man thats what i was told to run by the internet) and got this...

so errrrrr yeah

apparently the same goes for the adhd data to which i can kind of get but also dont when

0.6% of people didn't like the show and were diagnosed as an adult but 1.2% didn't like the show and were self-diagnosed, with almost the same number of votes (it works out as a 1 person difference)

and no one who was diagnosed as a child disliked it like WHAT?!?!?!

also no neurotypicals disliked it, love y'all for that /gen

idk, i think the sample size is too small to run accurate tests, that or im doing it wrong which is a very high probability

so whilst statistically, the answer is no, i'm seeing a pattern emerge

but i am a scientist so i cannot say yes or no which SUCKS bc i see a pattern and i want to know MORE but tumblr doesn't have a great mechanism for polls so i can't ask all the questions i want to

TL;DR

the stats say there's no significant difference and so i must concur even if i don't want to

the show was amazing and i'm very excited for season 2 for reasons i don't want to spoil for people who haven't read the book (but go read the books they are just as good)

Closest Race:

The poll which tied Red-browed Firetail and Magpie-lark originally had the Firetail win, but the run-off poll saw the Magpie-lark winning. When all the votes and percents are averaged between the two, however, we see a strange pattern. Magpie-lark wins with 52.35% of the votes, but only has a lead of 10 votes over the Firetail. What a close race indeed.

Bush Stone Curlew vs Grey Butcherbird had a 20 vote difference, but the Curlew won both polls separately. It also got 52.1% of the votes when both polls are averaged.

On another note, this was definitely the most participation any bracket has seen.
