Reference P2, P3, P4, P5, P6 So back to Taft these are two books that I’m using at the moment to help develop texture and depth in my current work. As I mentioned in my previous posts the texture that I created in my previous project - Travel and Explore- was a large part of its success and I had wanted to build on this initially by using concrete for a 3D work. However due to an injury to my thumb amongst other reservations as well as further research and development of ideas my current work is largely stitch based. At the beginning of this course I was completely new to machine embroidery and have been amazed and surprised at the textures and effects that can be created. This book by Polly O’Neil has inspired me to observe surfaces that we come across in our every day lives in greater detail and depth. The book by @gwenhedley is full of inspiration, especially for someone new to stitching in this way, of techniques and ideas of how to develop texture and depth in your work through looking at her own artwork and that of many more textile artists. From the artists she features I’m particularly interested in further researching the artwork of Bernie Leahy who captures ‘fleeting moments of gesture and expression’ as I am also currently doing. #gwenhedley #strodefad #kaderattia #fmp #finalmajorproject #strodecollege #textileart #texture #surfacesandtextures #pollyoneil https://www.instagram.com/p/B_cGMRel9DL/?igshid=ahyi2d800ep2
