AN: slight changes bc reader would be so angry that they'd dropped the ball and won't answer when she needed them, so she would instruct John her security guard to blow their fucking phones up until they answered...
Also, this is my valentine's post since I forgot about Valentine's day... and we're going to 1 fic a week only, no more weekly drabbles. I'm drowning over here.
"I don't care if their phones spontaneously combust because it's ringing too much, John. Call. The. Fucking. Boys," you barked to the burley blond guard standing beside you, head turned towards his feet to avoid your laser-like glare.
He muttered a quick, "yes, ma'am," as you stalked away, house shoes almost sliding against the hospital floor on your way back to Asher.
He laid in the hospital bed, his arm being prepared in a cast by the doctor beside him. You smiled softly to the boy as he winced in pain, reaching a hand out to yours for comfort. You knelt beside the bed, watching the doctor over his body as Asher questioned once more, "are dads coming, mom?"
You brought his hand to your lips, pressing a soft kiss to them as you hummed a response, "they sure are, Ash."
What was happening on the other end however:
"Christ, if John calls my phone one more fucking time he's gonna end up with a cement block tied to his fucking neck as he walks in the fucking lagoon," Bucky barked as he wiped blood away from the black and gold hand.
Steve chuckled as he listened to the man, watching as Wilson rolled one of Strange's men in a rug. "Maybe you should answer it, Buck?" Steve offered, shrugging off his now stained shirt before slipping on a clean on.
Bucky laughed, cackled at the idea, shaking his head towards the blond. "He knows we were having this meeting, Steve."
Steve raised his shoulders in response, watching as Bucky's brain worked to figure out why his man would disobey his direct orders. Simultaneously the men worked it out, both looking to one another startled as Bucky explained, "unless there was trouble, Steve!"
"I'm already calling-- John? What the fuck--."
They both came running in the hospital, everyone moving out of their way faster than the speed of sound. In any other instance, everyone moved for the men; however upon seeing their car pull to an abrupt stop outside of the building, both men running at full speed through the emergency room, and have already been listening to John try desperately to call them, they all knew they should disperse.
They ran over to the bed, each coddling Asher immediately, and breathlessly sending their apologies as the kid smiled softly.
Finally, they begrudgingly turned to face your stare. You stood watching the men, arms crossed over your body before motioning them to follow you to the hall.
"Doll, I can't ev--."
"No, you can't," you cut him off, causing their eyes to widen, mouths shut, as they were left to merely suffer silently in their guilt. "He was fine one minute, playing with his brother and then came tumbling down the fucking stairs. I don't even know how--," you began to explain, tears welling in your eyes as your own guilt began to swell in your chest once more.
You'd been able to push the blame on the boys being late up till now... but now, you were facing the fact that you might not have been watching the kids close enough.
Yeah, you were in the kitchen preparing dinner. Yeah, they should be more than capable of playing in their rooms without your supervision, but would it have happened if you had been paying closer attention? They would be thoughts that kept you up at night for weeks.
Bucky and Steve softened at your tears, both men moving to circle you in their arms as you cried quietly, not wanting Asher to overhear. A few shaky deep breathes were taken before you could continue the explanation, "Kaden said he was walking in the hall, coming out of the bathroom, and just passed out by the stairs and it sent him tumbling. They're doing tests in a few."
Soft mumbles were whispered around you as you cried into Steve's shoulder, and you felt the tickle of soft tears trailing their way down your head from the men. They stayed silent as they held you in their arms, guilt riddling every fiber of their beings.
"We should have been there. It's Saturday; we should have never left to deal with Strange today," Steve grumbled.
You could feel Bucky's head nodding against your head as his forehead was lowered to lean against your head. "Should have done it yesterday."
You took a deep breath, ridding yourself of the negative thoughts swarming the three of you before pulling them away from you and declaring, "boys, stop. It's okay. It doesn't matter if we were all watching him, if Kaden said he just passed out. Besides, he only broke an arm after all of the tumbling. It's going to be okay."
The men nodded slowly, reluctantly relinquishing the guilt as you giggled to yourself. "He already said the cast will get the ladies," you added, turning to glance at the sleeping boy over your shoulder.
"He's so much like Bucky," Steve groaned, looking over to Bucky who was just nodding and laughing, "we're gonna have our hands full with that one."
