You don’t think your bedroom has ever been so messy. Pillows on the floor, sheets and comforter all askew, most everything you own moved this way or that so you could see around or behind or underneath it. You’re halfway to a panic when a knock sounds on your door.
You ignore it. It’s likely a postman leaving a package or someone who will leave a flyer taped to the door, and you have more pressing concerns to deal with. But the knock comes again, louder this time.
You push out a sigh as you stand from where you’d been peering under your bed, trying to shake some of your unease out of your fingertips as you go to answer it. On the other side you find your roguishly handsome boyfriend, looking expectant.
“Hey, beautiful,” says Sirius, grinning as he leans in. He takes your waist in hand, and you kiss him back somewhat slowly, caught offguard by his easy affection at the best of times but even more so when you weren’t anticipating it.
“Hey,” you echo as he pulls back.
“You look surprised to see me,” he observes. “Did you not remember our date?”
You blink. Oh. Oh. God, you’re the worst. You’re supposed to be going to see a film with your boyfriends at noon—but in your frenzy, you’d completely forgotten. Is it really that late already?
“It’s alright.” Sirius seems to sense your nerves, giving you a kind squeeze. “We’ve got time, lovely, James is picking up Remus from across town and I told them we’d take the bus, is that alright? Do you need to do anything before we go?”
Your first thought is that you can’t go—but that’s not very fair, is it? You had plans, you can’t just abandon your boyfriends because something else has come up. Something completely non-urgent, too. It will still be just as lost whether you’re at the cinema or not. You can keep looking when you get home.
“Yeah,” you say, stepping back from the door. Sirius comes in, and you shut it behind him. “Sorry, I’m still in my pajamas. I can change fast.”
“Don’t hurry,” he says easily. “You know how James drives. We’ll beat them there no matter what.”
“Thanks.” You hurry into your room, Sirius trailing casually behind. “Sorry, just a second.”
He tsks, teasing. “Stop that.”
“Sorry,” you say instinctively, then feel your face heat when he shoots you a mock stern look. You grab some clothes and go into your bathroom, shutting the door to change.
“Whoa,” says Sirius as he enters your room. “What happened in here?”
You forcibly stifle another apology, laughing at yourself. “I know, it’s so bad.”
“Are you redecorating or something?”
“No, just looking for something.”
You step out of the bathroom in jeans and a jumper, and Sirius grins at you like you’re the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. You’re ready for him this time. When he steps forward, you let him put his hands on your face and kiss him back sweetly.
“What’s the matter?” he asks.
“Hm?”
“You seem upset. What is it?”
“I’m not upset.” You want for it to be true. You wish this wasn’t something that rattled you so badly.
“Liar.” Sirius says it in the same way he calls James pest, with a fond bent to his voice. He puts a couple of inches between you, keeping your face in his hands as he traps you beneath his stare. “What is it?”
Your shoulders climb up towards your ears. “I’m okay,” you say meekly. Sirius only looks at you, as if to say go on. “I just can’t find my rabbit.”
His brow furrows. “Your rabbit.”
“My stuffed rabbit,” you clarify.
“Oh.” Sirius glances to your bed, the covers half torn off from where you’ve disheveled them in your search and now trailing onto the floor. He lets his grip slip down your arms. “How did I not know about this? Seems rather important to you.”
“I don’t need to sleep with him every night or anything,” you say, embarrassed. “I’ve just always had him, so he’s sort of…sentimental. Anyway, it’s fine. I’ll find it later.”
“I’m not going to drag you to the cinema when you’re upset about your rabbit,” Sirius says, like the mere idea is offensive.
“You’re not dragging me,” you argue feebly, “and I’m not upset.”
“I’m not escorting you while you’re worried, then.” He rolls his eyes, taking out his phone.
“Sirius,” you plead, but he only shushes you.
“Hi,” he says a moment later. “Hey, has James gotten to you yet?”
Remus’ voice, too quiet to make out, crackles through the line.
Sirius hums. “Well, I’m impressed by him. Actually, though, we may have a change of plans.”
You cover your face with your hands, mortified. Sirius puts an arm around you, rubbing your shoulder like there, there.
“It seems our girl has misplaced her stuffed rabbit.”
You’re close enough now to hear James say, genuine alarm in his tone, “Moo Moo?”
There’s a pause, and you peek through your fingers to find Sirius looking at you. You nod in confirmation.
“It’s called Moo Moo?” he asks.
You hum quietly.
“Why would you name your rabbit after a sound a cow makes?”
“I don’t know,” you say sheepishly. “I was a baby.”
Sirius rolls his eyes, kissing you on your head. “You’re fucking precious, do you know that?”
It’s decided quickly after that. James and Remus change course, heading for your apartment while you and Sirius recommence the search. None of them will hear your protests, least of all Sirius, who threatens to decommission you from the rescue party if you continue to spend your energy arguing rather than looking.
With two of you, you clear the bedroom quickly, moving into the formerly unconsidered parts of your home. Sirius asks you questions like a police interrogator: Where did you last see him? How big is he? How many nights has it been since you’re sure you slept with him? Did he go on holiday with you last weekend?
Your laundry bin is upturned, couch cushions removed, mementos you’ve not seen for years discovered and then quickly lost again in the rubble.
When your boyfriends arrive, Remus takes one look at you and shepherds you away while James joins the search. He makes you tea and gives you enough of his soft, compassionate looks to melt you down to the bone.
“I didn’t mean to make us all miss the film,” you tell him, steam warming your chin as you sit on the kitchen counter. “I was going to go, but Sirius…”
You realize you sound like you’re tattling and stop. Remus only smiles at you indulgently, his brown eyes flickering with humor.
“We didn’t think it was you who made that call,” he says. “But, sweetheart, no one is upset that we’re here. We wouldn’t want you to have to sit through a film while you’re upset.”
“I’m not upset.” Your voice has the quiet weariness of a broken record.
Remus studies you. You sip your tea to avoid it, trying not to squirm under his gaze. “You seem like you might be upset,” he says, an almost missable hint of teasing in his tone.
“It’s stupid,” you admit. “I know he has to be here somewhere, there’s no point in worrying.”
“I’m sure he is.” Remus rubs your leg, soothing. “You’re right, lovely, he’s probably just somewhere we haven’t—”
“Found him!” James cries.
You gasp, and Remus grins at your reaction.
“Where?” Sirius bounds in from the sitting room.
James comes from the opposite direction, holding your rabbit above his head like a trophy. He passes it to you with a flourish as you hop down from the counter. “Angel, your Moo Moo.”
“So this is Moo Moo,” Sirius says, grinning.
You feel suddenly defensive, bringing the grayed, ratty plushie close to your chest. “Yes.”
“I love him.”
“I think he’s handsome,” says Remus, also looking at him interestedly.
“Caused a lot of trouble today, though,” Sirius tuts, “hasn’t he?”
“Where’d you find him?” you ask James, eager to be out of the spotlight.
“He was wedged between your mattress and the wall.” Your boyfriend pouts. “Poor thing.”
You frown. “I looked there.”
“He was sort of in the corner.” James shrugs. “Rather easy to miss, I’m sure Sirius checked there too.”
“Well, thank you,” you say shyly. Still holding the toy to your chest. “I might not have looked there again on my own.”
“Seems a good thing we came over, hm?” Remus asks complacently.
Your face heats. “Yeah.”
“One more time, sweetness?” Sirius cocks his ear. “Not sure I heard you there.”
“Yes,” you say again, fighting a smile. “Thank you for coming.”
He grins at you, wrestling you into his side. “I don’t ever want to hear you arguing one of my ideas again.”
“That seems a bit premature—” James starts to say.

you've had worse days, technically, but something about this one just… unravels you. your quill snapped halfway through an essay you didn't understand to begin with. then someone bumped your shoulder in the corridor, didn't bother to say sorry. you dropped your ink bottle before dinner. every little thing felt louder, sharper, harder to swallow.
by the time you climb through the portrait hole, it's all pressing down at once. the gryffindor common room is golden and noisy, firelight glinting off brass buttons and prefect badges, laughter echoing too loud. usually it's homey. tonight it feels like you can't breathe in it.
the boys are there, of course they are. the marauders have practically claimed the corner couch by the fireplace as theirs. james is half lying across it, socks mismatched, playing idly with a snitch that flickers gold in the light. sirius is perched on the armrest, his boots kicked off, laughing at something james said. remus, calm as ever, is curled up with a book on his lap, one hand absently rubbing at a scar on his wrist.
normally, the sight of them makes you smile. now it just makes your chest tighten. you freeze halfway across the room. the sound is too much; the fire crackling, the chatter, the metallic click of the snitch's wings. the noise scrapes against the edges of your thoughts until words stop making sense. you can't find the space between inhale and exhale anymore.
remus notices first, like he always does. his head lifts, eyes flicking up from his book to you. he studies you for half a second, enough to see it. the stillness. the way your eyes dart around without landing.
"hey," he says quietly. "hey, love. you alright?" you open your mouth, but the air just catches. no sound comes out. your throat feels closed off, heavy. you shake your head, maybe, or maybe you just blink too long.
sirius straightens, his grin fading instantly. "darling?" he asks, voice soft for once.
james, ever the last to notice but always the quickest to move, sits up properly. his brows knit. "what's wrong, sweetheart?"
you can't answer.
the pressure in your chest climbs higher, your heartbeat loud in your ears. you want to say i'm fine or just tired, anything to make the worry in their faces ease, but the words are gone.
remus is already up, crossing the space slowly. "too much?" he murmurs, his tone low enough that it's just for you.
you nod, small and sharp. your fingers curl into the hem of your jumper.
"alright," he says, voice like warm honey. "alright, we'll go slow, yeah?"
sirius slides off the armrest, landing lightly on his feet. "d'you want us to leave you be for a bit, love?" he asks. you can tell he's trying not to crowd you, his usual swagger gone, replaced with something uncertain and sweet.
you shake your head. you don't want to be alone. you just can't talk.
james catches that, bless him. "okay," he says softly, getting up too. "we'll stay right here, promise. no pressure."
remus reaches out, careful, and offers his hand. you let him take yours. his touch is warm, grounding.
sirius grabs the blanket off the back of the couch and drapes it over your shoulders, tucking it gently under your chin like he's afraid you’ll shatter if he moves too fast.
james guides you to sit down, murmuring little nothings: "easy, there you go, love," "we've got you, just breathe." his voice is low and rhythmic, like he's trying to sync his words to your breathing.
you sit between them, remus on your left, sirius on your right, james kneeling in front of you. the firelight paints them golden. you stare at the flicker of it, trying to match the rhythm of your breaths to the rise and fall of the flames.
remus squeezes your hand once, gentle. "can i touch you?" he asks. you nod, and he slides his arm around your back, pulling you carefully against his side.
sirius starts fiddling with the fringe of the blanket, humming under his breath, one you can't place, slow and soothing.
james reaches up to smooth your hair, his fingers brushing your temple like he's tracing away the tension there.
no one rushes you. no one asks questions. they just stay.
remus leans his chin lightly against the top of your head. "you don't have to say anything, dove," he murmurs. "not a single word."
"yeah," james adds softly, thumb brushing the back of your hand now. "we get it, love. we know."
the noise of the common room fades after a while. someone must've gone to bed; the fire burns lower.
sirius stretches out, resting his head in your lap. his hair tickles your wrist, and he turns just enough to look up at you. "you're doing great, y'know that?” he says quietly. "just breathing. that's enough."
something in you eases at that. not all at once, more like a knot slowly untying. the air starts to move again. the tightness in your chest loosens just a bit.
james notices it instantly this time. "there you are," he says softly, relief coloring his tone. he presses a kiss to your knuckles. "we've missed ya."
remus's hand traces slow circles against your back. "it's okay," he whispers, voice close to your ear. "you don't have to talk until you're ready. we'll wait as long as it takes."
and they do.
minutes pass, or maybe longer, time feels strange in their warmth. sirius's fingers find yours beneath the blanket; remus hums something low and steady. james eventually stretches out beside you on the couch, his arm resting across your legs like he's anchoring you to the world.
the fire burns low, painting the three of them in gold and shadow. you close your eyes.
when you finally manage to speak again, your voice comes out quiet, fragile. "thank you," you whisper.
remus smiles against your hair. "always, darling."
sirius tilts his head, grin sleepy and soft. "you don't ever have to thank us." and james, always the one to make you laugh even when you don't mean to, nudges your knee. "you're stuck with us, sweetheart. can't get rid of us even if you tried."
you let out a breathy laugh, barely a sound, but real. sirius beams like you just performed a miracle.
the fire pops softly, the warmth wrapping around the four of you like a living thing. remus's heartbeat hums steady against your shoulder. james's thumb draws idle patterns against your knee. sirius's breathing evens out until hess almost asleep in your lap.
and for the first time all day, you feel quiet in a way that doesn’t hurt.

You wince as another scar on your face knits itself together, a strangled gasp leaving your lips. Regulus stands in front of you, wand in hand as he slowly heals the worst of the scars left after your attack.
His gaze is troubled, and you can still feel the blood he had scourgified off of your skin. Your hand is being held in Lily’s shaking ones, you can tell it’s taking all of her energy to hold herself together for you.
You’re too tired to do anything other than stare blankly at Regulus’ stormy expression as you tune out Lily’s shaking sobs that she attempts to muffle in Mary’s shoulder. You’re unaware that Regulus is done healing you until he takes a step closer, dropping his arm to his side.
“Do I look that bad?” you joke weakly, and all Regulus does is inhale sharply, “You look beautiful,” he says angrily. You know not to take it personally, he’s angry at the situation.
You, Lily, Mary and Regulus were sent on an Order mission to scope out a potential death eater attack hours prior from when it was intended to occur. Greyback had caught the end of Mary’s robes as she was about to find her stakeout spot.
He had cornered her, alone and in fear, she had dropped her wand. You had been the nearest to her at the time and heard Greyback’s snarling voice as he taunted her.
You didn’t think to call for backup in fear of being too late to save Mary, so you had thrown yourself in front of her as you threw multiple curses in quick succession. Your failing grace had been a well timed stupefy by Greyback that had you hesitating for a short period in which he had time to attack.
It was horrible, you can barely close your eyes without seeing the looming monster above you, amber eyes illuminated by the darkness of night. You can still feel the agony of his claws slashing into you as his manic grin burns your eyelids.
Mary had been able to escape and intercept Lily and Regulus as they looked for the two of you. According to her she was a mess of tears and snot as she recalled quickly what was happening and that they needed to hurry to help you.
They had found you exactly where Mary had last seen you, mangled and in a pool of your own blood. Regulus had confessed in a plea to keep you conscious as soon as they arrived to base that he had thrown up before coming to his senses to help.
Regulus looks less pale as time passes and you start to show signs of healing such as moving without wincing. You gift him a small smile before the moment is interrupted by a slamming door and three unmistakeable sounds of loud footsteps.
Your boyfriends rush to your bed in haste, before all three stop in their tracks at the sight of your torn clothes and scars littering your skin. You think you hear Remus let out a whimper at the sight but you’re all too consumed by the grief permeating the air.
Exhaustion floods your bones as tears fill your eyes, sobs wracking through your body that have Lily, Mary and Regulus shuffling out of the small room. Remus, Sirius and James hesitate for a moment before clambering clumsily to encompass you from all angles.
You can feel the three of them shaking in sorrow and anger. Your body shakes in their hold before one wince from a badly timed squeeze has the three of them jumping far away from you in fear.
You cower away from them at the sudden movement, closing your eyes and wincing, before you peak one eye open to see them look at you in varying stages of despair.
“I’m…okay,” you offer hesitantly, eyes shining and pleading with them to believe you. It’s Remus who breaks the silence with a scoff that has both James and Sirius looking at him incredulously.
“Don’t lie to us, not about this,” he says finally, his heart breaking as he watches you cave into yourself. There’s a building insecurity in your chest that you know he’s aware of, all too well.
“Do I look…bad?” you ask, your voice barely above a whisper. Sirius’ smile is wobbly when you look at him and your gaze catch his shaking hands as he shuffles over to the bed to cup your face softly, the same you’ve seen him do to Remus after a full moon.
“I think you’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen,” he offers through a warbled tone. Your eyes shine again as tears line your vision. With a sniff and a quick kiss to his palm you smile at him, loving and trusting just as you did before you had left for the mission.
“Can I hug you?” James voice cuts across the quiet room, he’s shuffling on his feet, wringing his hands as his eyes swim with worry. You know he needs to touch you to fully grasp that you’re okay and not stuck bleeding out in a random alleyway.
You offer him a small smile and a nod as you shuffle to the side of the bed, opening the covers for him to get in. He wastes no time, clambering towards you in a clumsy haste, tugging you delicately into his arms as a breath of relief leaves him.
“I’m right here.” you murmur into his chest and with a small sniffle he presses a deep kiss into your hair as his arms tighten around you in acknowledgement. You can see out of the corner of your eye, Remus shuffling into Sirius’ awaiting arms.
You lift your head slightly to catch his eyes over Sirius’ shoulder and he clenches his eyes in pain. You know what he’s thinking and before you can think better of it, you sit up slowly with maximum effort and a small wince.
James scrambles to help you as he adjusts himself to lie against the headboard, tugging you again to lie backwards against his chest. His hands rub calming circles on your hips as you breathe deeply through the pain.
Sirius and Remus watch you both in agony. You hold your hand out, eyes locking with Remus’. He looks hesitant but with one sharp look aimed at him, he concedes and shuffles to the sit next to James’s leg, hand holding yours.
With your hands intertwined, you pat your other side for Sirius to sit down, which he does with minimal hesitation, only hesitating before asking he can lay his head in your lap.
You roll your eyes fondly before nodding, he’s gentle in a way he never was before and some part of you aches for the normality you’ve lost.
You lock eyes with Remus before taking a deep breath and murmuring for the three of them to hear, “He didn’t turn me.”
Sirius and James both stiffen but Remus only nods, his gaze guarded. “It’s not a full” he explains for Sirius and James, eyes still locked on yours. “Do you hate me?” you question weakly, and Remus immediately looks horrified as Sirius and James squawk in protests and indignation.
“Hate you? Because you were attacked?!” he asks appalled. You shrug, looking away in shame before he grasps your chin in his palm, tugging your gaze back to his.
“Why would you ever think I would be upset with you for this?” he asks, eyes pleading for you to explain. You want to close your eyes again, let the tears roll down your cheeks again because no part of you wants to have this conversation.
“You’ve never necessarily…liked being a werewolf, which is okay!” you rush out before clenching your eyes shut and looking down again. “I understand you don’t like this part of yourself, that you will never fully understand that James, Sirius and I love you, including your wolf side. I just thought,” You huff out a broken laugh.
“I just thought you’d hate me too for becoming something you hate” you confess, voice cracking as insecurity coats your bitter words.
You hear Remus let out a shaky exhale, looking back at him to see tears trailing over tanned scarred skin. “I didn’t mean to make you cry” you rush out and all he can do is shake his head jerkily before leaning forward to place a deep kiss to your lips.
“There is nothing in this world that could make me stop loving you,” he mumbles into the kiss. James and Sirius echo his sentiment, though the static in your brain seems to switch off when Remus detaches from you.
“I hate what Greyback did to me, and I will never not be thankful that you do not have to carry this burden, but even if you were turned, that would have never changed the love I hold for you” he says seriously, unflinching and calm as he looks at you.
You laugh a little hoarsely before nodding, squeezing his hand and shuffling deeper into James’ arms as your hands card through Sirius’ curls.
“You do look pretty badass with the scars” Sirius adds through the silence which has James snorting into your hair, murmuring a soft, “subtle.”
“Now you and Moony match, Prongs and I look so boring next to you guys” Sirius continues which has James reaching over to flick his forehead in annoyance.
“Speak for yourself Pads, my muscles are completely badass,” James smirks and flexes his biceps around you. Sirius scowls looking at him before turning his puppy dog gaze to you with a pout, “Lovie, you think I’m badass don’t you?” he asks with a saccharine grin.
You shrug with a sly look that has Sirius gasping dramatically and huffing in offence. “I’ll have you know if anything I’m the most badass out of all of us” he proclaims.

To the Honored Monarchs and Regents of the Allied Kingdoms,
It is with a heavy heart that I, Prince Alaric of Solis, write to inform you of a grievous matter that has befallen our realm.
On the eve of our late King’s illness worsening, my beloved sister — Her Royal Highness Princess Aurelia of Solis — vanished from her chambers under mysterious circumstances. Despite the tireless efforts of our guards and council, no trace of her has yet been found. The circumstances suggest foul play, and there is grave concern for her safety.
Princess Aurelia is twenty summers of age, of fair complexion and golden hair, bearing upon her left collarbone the mark of Solis — a sun entwined with flame, proof of her royal lineage. She was last seen wearing a nightdress of white silk and a cloak of deep crimson, though her attire may have changed since her disappearance.
I implore all neighboring kingdoms to remain vigilant. Any traveler or servant whose origins are unclear, any woman matching the Princess’s likeness or age, must be brought to attention. Should Her Highness be discovered or any information regarding her whereabouts arise, such intelligence is to be sent directly to the Solis Court.
Let it be known that harboring or concealing a member of Solis royalty — intentionally or otherwise — will be regarded as an act of treason against the Crown of Solis and shall be answered accordingly.
May the gods grant swiftness to our search and justice to those who would harm our house.
By my hand and seal,Prince Alaric of Solis
Acting Regent of the Sunlit Throne
Written at Solis Palace, under the sign of the waning moon.
You had reread the letter again and again until the ink bled at the edges of your sight, until the words rearranged themselves into a thing both familiar and monstrous. Prince Alaric of Solis… Princess Aurelia… vanished… mark of Solis… treason… Each line landed like a flat, cold stone on your ribs. The proclamation’s seal — a stamped sun with flame — stared up at you from the paper with the same indifferent authority that had chased you from your home.
It had been found wedged between a pile of unclaimed shirts on the top shelf of Lord Potter’s wardrobe — a careless place, and therefore perfect. Maris, thin-shouldered and loud, had shrieked and waved it at the laundry table until half the servants clustered around, linen forgotten. Fingers trembled; gossip flew like sparks.
“Did you see it?” Maris hissed, eyes bright as if she’d swallowed a secret jewel. “They say she’s the king’s own daughter. Twenty summers. A mark on her collarbone!”
“Princess?” Hestia’s voice was all breathless delight and fear. “Do you think — do you think she could be here? In the castle? Imagine her asking for work and—” she trailed off, already tasting the story.
Around them, the other maids embroidered the tale with the hungry inventiveness of people who had too many hours and not enough belonging. Someone suggested a ransom, someone else whispered of kidnappers and highwaymen. The words folded and unfolded into versions that were always larger, always more spectacular than the last.
You moved through the room as if through water. Glass clinked somewhere; the scent of lemon oil and damp wool hung in the air. They jabbered at you, nudging, showing the page like a relic. “You should read it, dove,” Maris urged, thrusting the paper at your face. “Isn’t it strange? Found in Lord Potter’s rooms—what a scandal.”
Your hands remembered things your heart tried to forget: the scissors, the falling gold; your fingers stained with dye that had smelled like ink and desperation. You felt the phantom weight of boots as you’d fled the palace. Every scrap of silk you’d buried in a trunk, every midnight plan to slip away again, all of it tightened into a single, immediate fear — that the letter would travel faster than you could unmake yourself.
You mouthed words to yourself that weren’t spoken. Don’t show them. Don’t let them look. Don’t let anyone trace the mark. A thousand small instructions, each a thread pulling at the cloth of your composed face.
Maris leaned closer, breath hot with rumor. “They say the prince is demanding anyone who’s seen a woman of her description be reported to the Solis Court directly. Imagine what they’d do if they discovered she was hiding here…”
Imagined. The word ignited a dozen scenarios: questions from guards at the gate, the red-inked letters of inquiry, a search of the servants’ quarters. You pictured the patrols, the sharp-faced men pushing open trunks, the way your gosling of a lying heart would sound against your ribs if they found the cut hair hidden under your bed.
Someone reached for the letter, and your hand moved without thought — faster than caution — a soft, instinctual motion to cover what needed hiding. You felt the edges of the wax seal graze your thumb; warmth bloomed there as if from a living thing. It steadied you, oddly, to hold it.
“No one else should see this,” you murmured, because it was true in more ways than the maids understood. They stared at you. “Someone should fold it back and put it where it was found. For safety.”
They blinked at your sudden seriousness, then nodded. “Aye, dove, you’re right,” Hestia agreed, handing the folded page to Maris. The paper left your sight like an ember snuffed in cloth.

It had been a week since that night — the walk-in that none of them wanted to talk about but couldn’t seem to stop thinking about. You hadn’t said a word since, not a sarcastic remark, not even one of your half-smiles that always came at the worst possible times. You moved through the castle as though you were half-ghost, careful and contained, keeping your gaze low and your tone soft. It was so unlike you that even the walls seemed to notice. Silence had never suited you; it wasn’t part of your nature. And yet, there it was — sharp, deliberate, and heavy enough to make all four of them feel it whenever you entered a room.
At first, James had tried to brush it off — said you were probably embarrassed, or maybe just tired. Sirius had joked about it once, then stopped when no one laughed. Remus, ever the reasonable one, had insisted that it was none of their business. But still, something about you had shifted in a way that none of them could ignore. The way you walked — it wasn’t the quick, uncertain shuffle of a servant trying not to be noticed. It was measured, graceful, almost deliberate. Every gesture, every turn of your wrist or tilt of your head seemed… trained. Like you were used to being watched. Like you were used to commanding a room, not slipping through it unseen. Even when you bowed your head or bit back your words, it didn’t feel like submission — it felt like restraint. And that, more than anything, made them stare longer than they should have.
Then came the letter.
The missive from Solis had arrived sealed in gold wax, the symbol of a sun wreathed in flame gleaming faintly beneath the candlelight. It spoke of tragedy, of disappearance, of a missing princess whose absence had thrown an entire kingdom into unease. It was the sort of political drama they usually couldn’t care less about — faraway courts and their endless scandals. But this one... this one felt closer somehow. Maybe it was the desperation in the prince’s words, maybe it was the eerie timing of it all, or maybe it was because when James read it aloud, your name was the first thing that flickered across their minds.
They didn’t say it out loud, of course. Not then. But each of them had seen the way your face drained of color when you overheard the name “Solis” in the corridors. The way your hands had trembled when you’d been caught holding the discarded letter later that evening. The way your posture straightened — shoulders back, chin lifted — as though instinct alone wouldn’t let you look small, even when you tried. You spoke differently too. Not in words, but in manner — the careful enunciation, the quiet authority that laced even the simplest sentences. It wasn’t arrogance; it was breeding. It was the kind of composure that came from years of etiquette lessons and royal dining halls, not from servant quarters.
They began to notice the little things after that. How the other maids unconsciously made room when you walked by. How Sirius once joked that you gave orders better than James did — and no one disagreed. How your presence had a strange gravity to it, something no one could quite explain but none could deny. You carried yourself like someone who had once been obeyed. Like someone who had forgotten how not to be seen as more.
Still, it was ridiculous to even think it. You, a princess? A runaway royal hiding in plain sight? It sounded like something out of a bard’s tale. And yet… the thought lingered. Soft and dangerous, curling at the edges of their curiosity. Because if it wasn’t true, then why did it feel like it was? Why did your silence seem less like fear and more like a secret?

The silverware gleamed beneath the candlelight, each piece aligned so precisely it looked almost ceremonial. You’d been standing there for over an hour, your hands moving automatically—fork, knife, goblet, repeat—trying to ignore the way your heart wouldn’t quite settle. The ballroom had been transformed for the night: crystal chandeliers hung like frozen constellations, the banners of every visiting kingdom draped from the rafters, and the crest of Gryffindor embroidered in gold along the walls. But it was the one crest that hadn’t been hung yet—the blazing sun of Solis—that made your stomach twist. You had rehearsed this in your mind for days. The plan was simple: help prepare for the banquet, make yourself scarce before the Solis delegation arrived, and disappear to the servant’s wing until the ball was over. You knew the timing by heart. The royal carriage would reach the gates an hour before sunset. The prince and his knights would be received in the courtyard. They’d dine, they’d smile, they’d pretend to be gracious. You would be long gone by then. At least, that’s how it was supposed to go. You adjusted a goblet, forcing your fingers to stop trembling. You couldn’t afford mistakes. Not when your brother would be here—Alaric, the name alone scraping against your thoughts like glass. You could still hear his voice from that letter, smooth and commanding, the same voice that used to whisper orders when you were children and threats when you were older. If he saw you now—here, dressed as a maid, alive when the world thought you gone—it would all come crashing down. Everything you’d built, every small taste of freedom, gone in an instant. You exhaled, pressing a hand against your apron to still the wild beating in your chest. The prince and his so called knights were supposed to be visiting the market square right now, showing face, charming nobles, doing whatever royal men did to distract the world from the cracks in their thrones. There was no reason for them to come here yet. You were safe. You had time. The last knife clinked softly into place. You straightened, brushed the dust from your skirt, and allowed yourself one small breath of relief— —and then froze. A sound drifted through the vast, quiet hall. Low, careless, unhurried. A hum. A faint whistle threading through the still air, casual in a way that made your blood run cold. No one else should’ve been here. Not this early. Not anyone who would hum. Your hands stilled on the tablecloth as you forced yourself to look up. The reflection in the polished silver caught it first—3 dark silhouette standing behind you, half-lit by the flickering chandelier light.
The voice came next, teasing and familiar in a way that made your heart lurch painfully.
“Didn’t think the Princess of Solis would be setting the table herself.”

You turned — slowly, terrified to confirm what you already knew. And there he was.
Prince James of Gryffindor.
The golden heir himself stood in the doorway, the faintest smirk tugging at his lips, flanked by his knights — Sirius Black, leaning against the marble like the world belonged to him, and Remus Lupin, quiet but sharp-eyed, taking in every inch of the scene.
Your hands trembled before you hid them behind your back. A nervous, unsure chuckle escaped — soft, too small for the grand hall you were standing in. Your head tilted slightly, a futile attempt at composure, the tiniest shake of disbelief slipping through.
“I…” you started, voice catching, “—didn’t realize Gryffindor royalty made a habit of sneaking up on people.”
James’s gaze didn’t waver. “Only when the people shouldn’t be here,” he said lightly, though the edge beneath the words was impossible to miss.
Remus’s voice broke through the tension first, low but sharp. “James.”
But the prince didn’t look away. He stood perfectly still, gaze locked on yours, something unreadable flickering behind the calm. His jaw tightened, ever so slightly, before he spoke again — quieter this time, but the softness in his tone only made the words cut deeper.
“Tell me, princess,” he said, the title barely a whisper, “how long did you plan to keep hiding?”
The world seemed to still around you.
Your breath caught, though you tried to mask it, fingers curling around the edge of the table for balance. The air had gone heavy, like even the walls were waiting for your answer. You could hear your heartbeat in your ears — too loud, too frantic — and you hated that he could probably see the tremor running through your hands.
“I—” You stopped, swallowing hard. The lie was right there, trembling at the back of your throat. All you had to do was say it. One word, one denial, and maybe he’d let it go. Maybe.
But you hesitated.
Just a second too long.
Sirius, who had been lounging lazily against the far wall, straightened. The teasing gleam in his eyes faded, replaced by something almost startled. He took a step closer, his usual grin nowhere to be found. “Bloody hell,” he muttered under his breath, eyes narrowing. “It is her.”
Remus went still beside him. His eyes flicked from you to James, searching both faces for confirmation neither of you wanted to give. You could see the calculation in his expression — the quiet understanding of what this revelation could mean if word ever got out.
“I don’t know what you think you’ve found,” you said finally, voice breaking the suffocating silence. You forced yourself to stand straighter, lifting your chin even though your pulse was racing. “But you’re mistaken.”
James’s gaze didn’t waver. His voice was quiet, steady. “You really want me to believe that?”
You tried to look away, but his stare anchored you in place — the kind that saw far too much, the kind that made lying feel impossible.
“I have no reason to trust Gryffindor’s judgment,” you said carefully, a sharp edge bleeding into your tone, hoping it would distract from the faint quiver in your voice. Then, before you could stop yourself, the words slipped out — sharper, pettier, far too human.
“Especially when its prince and knights seem to think sneaking around after dark makes them untouchable.”
The silence that followed was brutal.
Sirius froze, his usual grin faltering for the first time. Remus’s brow arched ever so slightly, his mouth twitching like he was half a second away from a sigh. And James — James’s expression didn’t move, but his eyes did. A flicker of something dark passed through them. Recognition. Memory.
“So you do remember that night,” he said quietly.
You felt your stomach drop. You hadn’t meant to confirm anything. The words had just slipped — anger and fear spilling into one dangerous truth.
You swallowed hard, forcing your voice back to calm. “I remember seeing three men who clearly thought the rules didn’t apply to them.” You tilted your head slightly, feigning nonchalance, though your pulse betrayed you. “Can’t say it left a great impression.”
Sirius let out a low whistle. “And here I thought we were charming.”
Remus’s tone was drier. “You thought wrong.”
But James didn’t join them. He just kept watching you — silent, calculating, the faintest ghost of a smirk tugging at his mouth as if he’d finally pieced together something he hadn’t realized he was missing.
“I see,” he murmured finally. “You remember us. You saw us. And now you’re pretending to be no one.”
Your chest tightened. “I’m not pretending to be anything, your highness. I’m just trying to work.”
“Right,” he said, but the word carried more meaning than it should have. “Working. Hiding. Same thing, isn’t it?”
You glared at him, but it didn’t stop the small, knowing curve of his lips.
For a long moment, none of you spoke. Just the steady, unbearable tension stretching between the four of you — his knights uneasy, you cornered, and James standing there like he’d just uncovered the edge of a secret he wasn’t supposed to touch.
Then, finally, he stepped back. “We’re done here,” he said to his men, though his gaze didn’t leave yours. “For now.”
You exhaled — shaky, quiet, almost relieved. Almost.
But then he spoke again. “Actually…”
You froze.
Sirius looked at him sharply. “James.” Remus sighed under his breath. “Oh no.”
The prince’s eyes were still on you, unreadable — gold and storm all at once. “There’s a ball tonight,” he said slowly, as if testing the sound of his own words. “You’ve heard, haven’t you?”
You blinked, uncertain. “I— yes, of course, my lord. I’m expected to help—”
“That’s not what I meant.”
The interruption was soft but final. He took a step closer — not threatening, but impossibly sure. The light from the tall windows fell across his face, painting his expression in gold and shadow.
“I meant,” James continued, his voice low and deliberate, “that you’ll be there. With me.”
The words hit you like a physical thing.
Sirius choked on a laugh. “You’re joking.” Remus pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering something that sounded suspiciously like ‘of course he’d do this.’ But James didn’t so much as blink.
You stared at him, stunned. “You— you can’t be serious.”
“Completely,” he replied, that infuriating calm never once slipping. “You carry yourself like someone who belongs in that ballroom more than half the nobles attending. So, why not?”
“Because I’m a servant,” you said, forcing the words out even as your voice wavered.
He tilted his head slightly, amusement flickering in his eyes. “Are you?”
That single question stole the breath from your lungs. It wasn’t taunting — it was quiet, curious, like he was already sure of the answer and just waiting for you to admit it.
Remus stepped forward, voice steady but cautious. “James, this isn’t wise. If anyone sees—”
“They won’t,” James cut in smoothly. “She’ll be masked, like everyone else.”
Sirius gave a disbelieving snort. “Brilliant. Invite the mysterious maid-who’s-definitely-not-a-maid to the most public event of the season. What could go wrong?”
But James only smiled, eyes still locked on you. “Everything,” he said softly. “Which is why I’d very much like to see how she handles it.”
You could feel your pulse hammering in your throat. “Why?” you managed, barely above a whisper. “Why would you do that?”
He didn’t look away. “Because,” he said after a pause, “if you’re truly no one — then there’s nothing to lose.”
And I think I'm growing taller (under this light that you have carved)
let me wrap my teeth around the world - series masterlist here

"I'm just saying - it's gross."
"It's not gross," James says indignantly, prying the blender out of Sirius's hands. "It's healthy."
"It's green," Sirius counters as he lets go of the blender willingly, watching as James plugs it in.
"It's spinach, it's supposed to be green."
"But shakes aren't - healthy or not," Sirius decrees.
"Side with me here, lovely," James reaches for you, pressing a kiss to your cheek that feels distinctly like bribery.
You just hum in response, though, your back still partially to the two of them as you lean against the counter and stare off into the living room.
"The smoothie," James continues pointedly.
"What?" you blink as you finally look at him. "Hm, no. Sorry, Jamie, but the spinach is kind of gross. You should try microgreens."
"And you should eat more spinach," he counters, pointing at you accusingly as Sirius laughs some kind of victory, pinching James meanly on the bicep as a reward.
"Oh yea?" you muse distractedly, your gaze drifting back to the living room.
"Yea, you need more iron," James insists.
"Hmm," you hum absently.
"I don't know about you, Prongsie, but I'm feeling very loved right now," Sirius drawls, sarcasm etched into his words as he drapes himself over your back.
"I've never felt more interesting," James agrees sombrely. "What's caught your attention, lovebug?"
"Oh," Sirius cuts himself off with a laugh, seeing where your line of sight has taken you now that his chin is hooked on your shoulder and he's pressed against your back. "Oh, I see."
"What?" James asks, a whiney sort of tone sifting through his voice at being left out, and Sirius squishes his cheeks together with one big hand so that he can turn his head and follow your staring.
"Oh," James hums, something shifting - something teasing levelling his voice in a way that makes your gaze snap to his.
"Stop," you say firmly - but, really, you know it's too late.
It's Remus sitting in the living room, tucked up in the worn armchair in the corner with a mug of tea curling steam up around him and a stack of papers sitting on his lap. The early morning light filters in and washes over him, his hair fluffed from sleep and his face concentrated.
"Oh, you poor thing," Sirius croons mockingly, wrapping his arms around your waist from behind. "You've been very one-note lately."
"Enough," you insist. "There's no note."
"No, I get it," James muses, leaning his back against the counter so he can watch you. "He has been looking very good lately."
"He looks the same as he always does," you insist, but it falls on deaf ears.
"You've been honed in since the semester started up," Sirius ponders. "I didn't know you had a thing for professors."
"I don't!" Your voice tips into something exasperated. "James, can you hand me the blender?"
"What - why?" he laughs, dutifully passing it over. "Are you changing your spinach opinion?"
"No, of course not," you say pointedly. "I need something to hit you both with."
"Did you see when he came home the other day still dressed from work?" James muses, letting you wrestle the blender from him easily.
"Oh," Sirius hums smugly at the memory. "Yea. I thought his tweed was going to have claw marks in it by the end of -"
"Oh my god -" you exclaim, embarrassment turning your voice shrill. "Shut up -"
"What…?" Remus's voice has all three of you freezing, James stuck half-reaching for you while you hold the blender over your head, poised to pretend to whack Sirius over the head with it. "What are we doing?"
"Making smoothies," you offer sheepishly, moving to clutch the blender to your front like you're trying to stop it from giving you away. "Do you want one?"
"No, dove, that's… alright," Remus says slowly, bemusement colouring his features. "I was just coming to get more tea."
"I'll get it," James barely has time to shoot his hands out and catch the blender as you shove it towards his chest, and then you're prying Remus's empty mug from his hands - desperate for an out.
"No, no," Sirius reaches over your shoulder to pluck it from you. "I'll do it. It's the weekend, go relax - sit with Moons while he works."
"Do I need someone to sit with me?" Remus asks in amused unawareness as he watches the three of you fumble about, and you shake your head.
"No," you say pointedly as you glance at Sirius. "You don't. You're fine - go finish your work."
"I'm sorry I've been so preoccupied," Remus offers, and something softens in you at the genuine apology in his voice. "I just like to get ahead of things at the beginning of the term. It'll slow down in a bit."
"That's fine," you say quickly. "Do work from home - I don't mind."
James snorts out a laugh, mumbling an I bet you don't, and you shoot him a glare that you hope conveys how perturbed you'll be if he gives you up.
A useless attempt, though, you realize, as you look back to Remus. His head is cocked slightly to the side, his eyes soft and knowing as he looks down at you fondly.
"Oh," he says, and the delighted little surprise that nestles into his voice makes the embarrassment feel a bit more bearable. "Oh, my poor love. Are they teasing you?"
"I think," you say pointedly as Remus skims his knuckles across your cheek, "that this is really all your fault, if it's anyone's."
"Is that so?" he muses, and he knows - you know he knows. But you're unwilling to fess up to it, still, so you just sniff and pointedly look towards the other two.
"I wouldn't know," you murmur, and Remus hums in mock sympathy, his knuckles dragging down your cheek to your throat.
"I really would like you to sit with me while I work," he says gently, and it's enough to have you blinking up at him.
"Oh yea?"
"If you want to," he amends quickly. "I wouldn't want to bore you."
"You couldn't," you assure him immediately, but the smug little smile that flits across his face has you biting your tongue.
"No, apparently not," he says lightly, teasing and prodding as you tip your head forward to press your face into his neck with a drawn-out groan.
"Aw, who's being mean now?" Sirius points out, sliding a new, steaming hot mug of tea across the counter towards Remus.
"I'm moving out, by the way," you mumble, your voice muffled by Remus's knit sweater. "And I'm never speaking to any of you ever again."
"Well, I'm not sure that's fair," James chimes in as he fiddles with the blender. "Why deprive us all, hm?"
"If you'd both like to be mean to me, then you get to be deprived of my company, that's how it works, baby," you snipe back lovingly, but the smile that flits over James's face makes you narrow your eyes.
"Didn't mean that," he says easily as he looks down at whatever he's measuring into the blender. "Meant depriving us of watching. You know, like last night when you and Moony -"
"I'm leaving now," you announce, Remus's shoulder shaking silently from laughter as you peel yourself off of him and flounce into the living room.
Sirius, though, trails in after you, and it's only once you're sitting down that you notice the second mug of tea that he nudges into your hands.
"I hope you know we really are only joking," he murmurs against the crown of your head, kisses pressed there as he speaks.
"I know," you say softly. "So am I."
"But really," he tacks on. "If you're not careful, you'll give him an ego boost that none of us are really equipped to handle."
You glance through towards the kitchen where Remus and James are still standing together, James leaning into him and Remus smiling - slightly new, slightly different, like he fits into his own skin a bit better, like he's taller, like he's happier.
"I'm ok with that," you say easily, flashing Sirius a smile that's supposed to be smug but comes across with a little too much love in it for that.
"Yea," he sighs happily, slouching against you. "So am I, I think."
Accidental couple costume - Poly Marauders X reader
Summary: You meet the marauders at a Halloween party where you are wearing the fourth costume to their trio
After their endless muggle movie nights, hidden in the room of requirement, James had decided the perfect costume for their infamous group was Toy Story. Which was how they had ended up at this Halloween party, Remus sporting a wide brimmed cowboy hat, and a cow print vest over one of James's flannel shirts, complete with dark, detailed, pointy boots that belonged to Sirius, although he refused to say why or how he got them. Next to him was Buzz Lightyear, dark hair spilling out from under a skintight, purple cap that was connected to a white and green astronaut suit, rectangular wings attached to his back. Peter had ditched them, on the premise that he didn't like Halloween, in favour of staying in their dorm and binge watching a very un-scary movie. Which left James smothered in green body paint, shrouded in blue with big, googly eyes on top of his distinctive tousled hair. The three of them stood near the snack table, Sirius wolfing down handfuls of popcorn as James chatted to anyone who was near them.

Slipping a discreet hand on the small of Remus's back, James leaned in to whisper to the taller boy.
"You look hot in that getup cowboy" he murmured with a smirk, lips ghosting over Remus's ear. He scoffed in response but couldn't hide the pink tinge that crept up on his cheeks.
"You haven't noticed how Sirius hasn't been able to look at you all evening" James added nodding at the aforementioned boy. Upon hearing his name, Sirius automatically glanced up, locking eyes with Remus he stumbled into the food table, cursing as he knocked over a neon orange cupcake. He chuckled at the sight turning back to James.
"It's probably cause he knows he can't hide a hard on in that costume" he snickered earning a snort from the curly haired boy.
"Whoa" Sirius muttered quietly, drawing the other boys' attention, but he wasn't looking at them, his gaze was fixed at something in front of him, or rather someone. From through the crowds came a vision of beauty, with a red wig, separated into two braids, clothed in a white shirt with yellow details that sat perfectly on her figure and cow print pants that flared out around her ankles, above cowboy boots that looked almost exactly like Remus's, only in brown. She made her way closer to them, picking up a cup to pour herself a glass of punch, but before she could, a body blocked her reach.
"Well hello Jessie" a sauce voice spoke from beside her. She turned to see Sirius Balck, one of the notorious school pranksters, who, although she had never spoken to him, was recognised by his rebellious nature and flawless hair, that was currently stuffed into his costume.
" Hi buzz lightyear" she giggled sending a funny jolt through Sirius's stomach, eyes darting to his purple cap. Momentarily, his eyes widened in concern but he quickly whipped off the purple fabric, to show off his jet black locks. He leaned against the table, casually, exuding confidence.
" You know you're boyfriends here too" he said, putting a firm hand in her shoulder and spinning her around, bringing her face to face with Remus and then moving to stand next to her.
"Hi" she said smiling sweetly, Remus matched her grin.
"Hi I'm Remus, this is James" he greeted, introducing the man hanging onto his shoulder.
"I know, I'm Y/N" she said, oblivious to Sirius's dreamy stare.
"You know Jessie was actually Buzz's boyfriend, not Woody's" she said, but Sirius's smile didn't falter.
"Well I guess you're hanging with me then doll" he smirked, laying an arm around your shoulders carefully, observing for any signs of discomfort.
"Actually I think you should stick with all of us, for the rest of the night" James chimed in, gesturing to their costumes.
"It wouldn't make sense for Jessie to be wondering around alone" he said, eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief.
"Mhmm that's true, and I have to admit you make a cute alien" she said reaching for a snack. James's grin grew even wider as he nudged Remus excitedly.
"She's so cute" he gushed looking at her gorgeous features.
"Shut up, be cool" Remus muttered hastily, fixing a relaxed smile on his face, despite his shared nervousness at the lovely stranger.
Two hours later they were sat on a couch in the corner of the common room where the music was less loud, an uncommon occurrence for the marauders. They were snuggled up against the cushions, James's chin perched upon his hand as Sirius's sat forward in curiosity. Remus was laid back against the couch, but his eyes were transfixed upon the girl in front of him, drinking in her every word.
"Pandora put way too much bubotuber pus" she chortled.
"So when Slughorn bent over the potion to see if it was giving off the right aroma, it exploded in his face! He was like dripping in pink goo" she said, giggles interspersing every other sentence as her eyes lit up at the memory. The boys laughed in response.
"Weird way to propose but my answer's still yes" Sirius responded, garnering a smack on the shoulder from Remus.
“Will you come with me to get a snack?” James asked, fingers already intertwining with hers. She let James drag her to the snack table as he piled up a stack of brownies to bring back to the others. “I can’t believe we’ve never met you before” James commented, relishing the pastry he had just swallowed whole. “You guys are loud and boisterous, you don’t really pay attention to the quieter side of things” she said with a shrug. James’s eyebrows furrowed slightly.
“Well that was stupid of us, maybe we could’ve had you earlier” he said. And Y/N scoffed with a smile.
“Who said you have me?” She remarked as they made their way back to Remus and Sirius. “Well-”
“You just assumed that cause our costumes match, we’re together?” She sniggered and James turned bright pink.
“You’re right” he said, passing his brownies off to Remus and pulling Sirius off the couch to join him a kneeling position.
“Y/N… I don’t know your last name, from the moment you stepped into our lives yo-” He choked as Remus jerked him back by his collar and Sirius back by his hood. They groaned collectively as Remus looked at them disapprovingly.
“You are not proposing to this poor woman after you just met. If you’re going to pull antics like that, you need to get to know her well enough for her to want to put up with us” Remus said shaking his head.
“How do you know she doesn’t like us that much already?” He asked, earning himself a smack on the head.
“Y/N would you like to go to Hogsmeade with us next weekend. I can’t promise these two won’t do anything stupid but” he said with a small but hopeful smile.
“As long as whatever stupid thing they do is funny, sure” she said with a laugh.
The boys looked at each other in awe, admiration and excitement and knew none of them would be able to get much sleep tonight.

kinktober/flufftober masterlist
—————
it was a friday night, late enough that you’d already fooled around more than once since dinner, the four of you now lounging about in only your underwear. the sound of the boys yapping intertwined with one of sirius’ records on low, something full of guitar and bass, grungy but almost soft too.
your fingers glided over the velveteen blanket underneath you, silky material brushing against your exposed skin. you were wearing a dainty tank top, white with tiny flowers on, and lacy underwear that had barely enough coverage to actually be considered an article of clothing.
your head was hanging upside down off remus’ bed, watching them as they lazed about on the floor; sirius was the nearest to you, sat beside you and fiddling with the tips of your hair, james laying on his back on the opposite side of the remus, head lolled towards you, and remus half reclined onto his elbows.
your attention switched between each boy, taking mental pictures as you took in all the little details about them, treasuring it immensely. you pondered on whether or not they’d notice if you took a couple of actual photos, they just looked so pretty.
james’ hair was all sprawled out on the floor, brown waves a mess from all your earlier tugging, you loved how carefree he looked, glasses askew and laughter bubbling out of him.
remus looked peaceful, no worries on his usually fretful mind. you’d already helped him apply bio-oil to his scars today, and they looked visibly calmer than usual, their normal pinky-red appearance more of a pale peach. caramel eyes met yours, his head tilted slightly as he took you in, gaze trailing over your scantily clad form before sending you a wink, smirking when you flushed.
and sirius, he had been struggling a lot lately, more than usual after a few horrible letters from his parents. you were grateful that he was getting at least a few moments of happiness, you’d missed seeing that specific smile he saved for his loves.
eyes fluttering closed, smiling to yourself at how happy you were with your boys, perfectly content before you’re brought of your reverie by sirius pressing a kiss to your nose, body surrounding you as he turned to face you. you giggled, eyes reopening to the sight of him upside down, catching you off guard.
he gasped dramatically, startling poor james behind him, “are you laughing at my perfect face, i can’t believe you!”
you shrieked, his hands tickling you all over, laughing at your desperate attempts to evade his fingers, wriggling like a worm all over the bed. you managed to land a slap at his arm, which only encouraged him further, cackling at your gasps.
you were saved when james rushed over, “i’ll save you, lovie!” he pounced onto sirius, tackling him before pinching at his waist, tickling him back. they rolled around on the floor, limbs flailing as they scrapped about.
seeing your chance, you scrambled over to remus whilst the others were distracted, seeking his comforting touch.
he opened his arms to you, corners of his mouth tipping upwards as he pulled you close and brought your legs into his lap, scarred hands massaging at your bare feet, thumbs pressing into the soles.
he didn’t bother speaking, knowing you wanted some down time. he leaned you both back fully, all curled up together, he ignored the others in favour of watching you, continuing his soft touches as he slowly lulled you to sleep, warm, near-bare body pressed to yours.
Summary: How your searching for love led you to the Marauders
Notes: English is not my first language, use of Y/n, James was dating Lily but then stared dating Wolfstar, just started writing so maybe shit lol
Dating wasn’t easy, not when you were a student at Hogwarts where everyone was in each other business and you couldn’t do anything without it being the hot topic all around the school the next day. Also, being a Slytherin was view as being a snobbish bitch, which didn’t really help your dating life. And still, you wanted to be loved and love with your whole heart.
“I know you’re not studying, darling.”
Your thinking was disturbed by a calm voice that belong to no other than Remus Lupin. You had no idea, how your friendship with the marauders began. Maybe it was when you were 11 and James Potter helped you find your class, when you were wandering lost around the Castle. Maybe it was when you were 13 in a potion class and your hair was falling into your face and Sirius Black gave you his scrunchie so you won’t fuck up the potion because you couldn’t see. Or was it when Remus Lupin gave you his chocolate when he found you frustrated in the library over a stupid homework when you were 12? You really didn’t know, but the golden boys of Gryffindor were your best friends and you wouldn’t change a thing, even if you were secretly hoping, that you could be more.
“I am studying.” You tried to defend yourself, even if you were lost in your thoughts for the last 10 minutes. Remus gave you un unimpressed look as if trying to tell you that he knew you were lying.
“You were just staring at the page for Merlin knows how long, you can’t fool me, darling.” You were sure that the pet names, that each of the marauders gave you would be the end of you yet you would probably really die if they stopped with them.
“Maybe I’m just really interested in this page,” you tried once again, but you knew you were doomed. “Pff, even Moony doesn’t stare that long at a page when it’s interesting. What’s on your mind, hm?” James joined the conversation, ditching his homework.
“This Slytherin boy I’ve been seeing wants to take things to the next level,” you admitted, thinking about the conversation you had this morning. Sirius raised his head, that was comfortably in Remus’ lap, suddenly intrigued in the conversation as well. All 3 pairs of eyes were on you, all of them having a different emotion in them. You squirmed in the silence, hoping one of them would break the silence. After a few seconds Sirius was the first to speak.
“Who was it again? So I can break his face the next time I see him.” You blinked at him, surprised by his violent tendencies. You didn’t know what kind of reaction you expected, but it definitely wasn’t this. Not knowing what to say you just stared at him, but thankfully Remus came to your aid.
“Come on, Pads. Maybe Y/n wants to take things to the next level and I’m pretty sure broken bones would kind of ruin that.” He scolded the raven haired boy, but gave you a curious glance, wondering what was your answer.
“I told him I’d think about it, but I don’t really know what I should tell him. He’s nice and everything, but I feel absolutely nothing when I’m with him,” you answered the unsaid question of all three boys. “Good.” was the immediate answer from Sirius, but James jumped in before he could say anything else. “Is that what’s bothering you, sweets? If you don’t want to be with him, just say it.” He took you hand, when he notices you picking on your nails, a nasty habit you did whenever you were nervous.
It took you a second before answering, looking at yours and James’ joined hands.
“I guess I just expected more, ya know? When he first asked me out, I think I said yes just because I was so surprised anyone would find me attractive or interesting enough to want to go out with, especially someone I just met on hallways and saw in the common room, someone who didn’t know me and I was so eager to go with him because I was hoping I’d finally find someone I could be really happy with. Feel the butterflies and the love and all that shit but that didn’t happen. I don’t feel anything when I’m with him and I don’t know what to do now that I know it’s not what I hoped for.” You were quiet for a second, the boys not interrupting you. They knew you and knew you had more to say.
“But maybe I should be his girlfriend, take things to the next level. So what if it’s not like what I dreamed of, we can’t always have what we want and it’d nice to be someone’s girlfriend. Be with someone who cares about you is always nice, am I right? It could also help me stop feeling like a fourth wheel whenever we hang out and you’re acting all coupley while I’m just kind of there.” You spilled how you felt without being able to stop yourself. Was it the best choice? Maybe not, but you really needed to talk to someone about your feelings and you trusted them and knew they would never judge you.
“Surprised anyone would find you attractive enough? When was the last time you looked into a mirror, pet? Your are by far the most gorgeous girl in Hogwarts. But don’t be fooled, we don’t hang out with you for your looks, but because of how you make us feel. How you make us laugh when we’re sad, how you take care of us and do everything you think we might need, because of how amazing you and your personality is. Everybody would be proud to call you theirs. I’m actually surprised it took this long for someone to ask you out. I would have done it ages ago if I knew I’d stood a chance.” You lifted your head to look at Sirius, finding him looking at you in disbelief. You were definitely surprised by his words. You felt warmth spreading inside you body, thinking about his words. I would have done it ages ago if I knew I’d stood a chance, what did he mean by that? But before you could ask, Remus continued Sirius’ speech.
“Being with someone just to not be alone isn’t really a healthy thing, love. I’m not saying you shouldn’t be with this guy, do whatever you want, you are your own person and no one can tell you what do. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t waste your time dating someone you don’t feel any connection with. If you want butterflies, go find someone who makes you feel butterflies. You deserve so much more than to be with some bloke who doesn’t meet your expectations. Don’t lower your standards for anyone. And we never, ever wanted to make you feel like a fourth wheel, and we’re really sorry we did, love. If you’d feel more comfortable, we could stop acting all coupley, as you’ve put it, and be much less PDA with you. Whatever makes you happy and feeling the most comfortable with us.” Even tho he tried to mask it, you could see the hurt on his face and hear it in his voice. You didn’t think that your words would hurt them, that was the last thing you wanted.
“Listen to me and listen carefully, can you do that, sweetheart? I always thought that being with Lily would make me the happiest man in the world, that’s why I was trying so hard to get together with her. But when it finally happened I wasn’t happy. I tried so hard to love her, but I realized that I never did, I just loved the idea of her loving me. I wanted the same thing you want now. Everyday I saw how Pads and Moony are in love and I wanted that, just not with Lily, as I’ve come to realize. We were both unhappy so why should we stay together? Breaking up with her was the best thing ever, because it led her to be with Mary and I found my way to my boys. And let me tell you, being with them is the happiest I could ever be. And with you by our side. If you don’t feel happy, don’t waste your time with him. You may thing that it’s gonna be okay and you’ll find what you want, but it’s only gonna leave you miserable in the end,” James added.
You tried to wrap your head around everything what was said, but it left you confused. You knew you didn’t want to be with the Slytherin boy, you wanted to be part of the relationship these boys had, but you knew it wouldn’t be possible. But maybe they were right and being in a relationship just to be in one was stupid.
“I never want you to start acting differently or hide your relationship around me That’s the last thing I want and I’m sorry if it came out like I did. I love seeing you all in love, I really do. I feel the most comfortable when you are being yourselves, so please don’t ever change that,” you started to explain. You knew that if you didn’t say anything now, you never would. “I guess I’m just a little jealous that I could never be part of the love you share, you know? I think I want to be with someone so bad so I would stop feeling the need to be with you. Everyday I see how happy you are and I feel jealous because I know I’m not the reason you are happy. I stared something with this boy because I was hoping it would make these feeling stop, but if anything it has gotten worse. Every time he did something, the only thing I could think about was that you would do it differently,” you ended your speech, feeling nervous about what they would say. Would they reject you? Make fun of you? They would never do that told you the voice in you head and you knew it was right, you just didn’t know what to expect now.
“Then let us. Let us treat you like royalty, like you deserve. Let us love you like you deserve, let us be yours and let yourself be ours. Let us take you out and show you what love is supposed to feel like. Please, just let us, pet,” Sirius almost begged. You looked at him in surprise once again, and saw nothing but determination and love in his eyes. He really means it. You looked at the other two boys and found the exact same expression. You wanted to respond so bad but the only thing that you were able to say was just a soft what?
“We’ve talked about this quite a long time ago, we just didn’t know what to do,” James stared to explain. “We weren’t sure if you felt the same way and we didn’t want to ruin what we have now. But we’ve fallen, sweetheart. We fell so hard for you, you had us wrapped around your finger from the beginning and you didn’t even know it.” James gave you a small, almost shy smile.
“We knew that it could be weird, especially when we’re already in a relationship, but if you want us, love, we are yours and always have been. Be ours as well?” Remus finished for him. All of them waiting impatiently for your response. You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. You blinked a few times to wake up, but it wasn’t a dream. Actually, it was a dream comes true. You always wanted to hear them say they want you the same way you wanted them. A huge smile formed on your face
“I am yours, always will be.”
Your newfound relationship was the talk of the school for days to come, but the three Gryffindor golden boys didn’t seem to care. About the rumors, about you being a Slytherin, about anything really. If anything, they were proud that the whole school talked about them. Talked about you being with them. Everything was finally how it should be and none of you couldn’t be happier.
