The Importance of "Plus"
I've mentioned this in one of my other posts, but the more and more I read about, talk about, and in general just get involved with the LGBTQ+ community I find it increasingly imperative that we use the "+."
Even within our own community it seems it is often forgotten that there are more than just Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans* among us. Not only that, but Trans* issues are only now starting to come to the public eye and Trans* is in the title! If this is how we group ourselves and we hardly acknowledge the Asexuals, Graysexuals, Pansexuals, and many of the other less publicized orientations, genders, ect. then how can we expect the average person to know about, understand, and accept them? (Because sadly, not everyone in the world is accepting of their fellow humans as most of us are.)
I understand that LGBTQQIAGP and so on and so forth is in no way a practical way to denote our community, but at the very least can we try to always remember the "+?" This probably seems like a small issue, and many people are very against labels to begin with, they do serve an important purpose. They help us find a feeling of security and belonging in a world where many of us feel outcast. It's easy to feel lost and alone when you aren't represented.
