Can people in fandom stop headcanoning selfish villains/antagonists as being “npd coded”.
Ive seen a downtick in people villainizing BPD and Weird Cluster B Headcanons in general thankfully, and thats neat as someone with BPD, but theres this feeling that people still refuse to consider that people with NPD can actually be nuanced and complicated, perhaps even good individuals.
Perhaps its me being too touchy as someone with NPD myself (And if you know me, PLEASE dont pull the “I couldnt tell/Wow but you’re so kind!” schtick, I will get pissy) but its annoying when the only people you see get the NPD headcanon are like. Abusers. And people who otherwise intentially harm others for no good reason. Or unilaterally selfish people who “just like attention”.
If you’re going to headcanon someone with NPD while not having it yourself, can you at least be able to note any nuance in their personality and list like two diagnostic criteria that isn’t “Gee, theyre a selfish asshole and I want them to die”? And can we stop villainizing NPD in general? Contrary to popular belief I do actually like and care for people outside of my desire for validation and attention, and so can characters who exhibit NPD/NPD traits.
Anyways im saying this because Ragatha from TADC feels a bit NPD to me (gets testy with people who go against her desire for likeability (Jax), people pleasing behaviours to an unhealthy extent, seemingly Very obsessed with the reputation of being The Kind Empathetic Nice One Everyone Loves, practically SPEEDING to Pomni when she first enters the Circus to get her to like her instantly…and not risk Not Being Seen As Amazing And Loveable) and I love her regardless and people need to stop villainizing her for Also Being Nuanced. Also the fandom needs to be nice to women but thats neither here or there
