Another set of Nuphar polysepala photos, because you can never have too much Nuphar! The leaves provide habitat for aquatic invertebrates and the seeds are eaten by waterfowl, muskrat, and beaver. Ethnobotanically, many of the local tribes have medicinal uses for the plant. The incredible Nuphar polysepala, Rocky Mountain pond-lily. I absolutely adore these magnificent plants. Though they’re only known from a few locations in Arizona, these aquatic plants are relatively common in other areas of North America, including Alaska. They grow in ponds, lakes and still to slow-moving water from 2000 to 2250 m (6600-7500 ft) in AZ. The name "Arizona" comes from a the native O'odham word for "little spring:" alĭ ṣonak. This land has had very little water for a long time!
