Sepsis fic idea:
Batman stumbling into the batcave, blood dripping down his cape from a deep wound. Leaving a trail back to be Batmobile.
Alfred is initially alarmed but calmly stops the bleeding, sutures the wound, and bandages the smaller cuts.
He was about to help Bruce upstairs to his room. The younger man was starting to get some color back and appeared less dazed, he needed some rest in a comfortable bed.
But Bruce suddenly goes white as a sheet and collapses, Alfred barely managing to slow the fall so he doesn’t hit his head.
Sighing, the butler drags him to the medical bed. He checks Bruce’s vitals, frowning at the low blood pressure. Getting to work, he starts an IV, and connects the younger man to a bag of saline and a liter of blood.
When Alfred comes to check on Bruce in the morning, he’s surprised to see that he’s still unconscious. He expected him to be much improved already.
Upon examining Bruce, he’s very concerned to find a raging fever of 102.5 F and a very sickly complexion. Frowning, he hangs new bags of blood and saline.
He fluffs the pillow and adjust Bruce’s blanket before going to the medical storage to find a bag of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
Two days pass and Bruce is still unconscious. His body showing more signs of fighting an infection. The heart monitor showing a feverish pulse. Sweat glistening on his face. His hands far too cold when Alfred sat at the bedside and held them.
In his sleep he must have tossed and turned because his stitches had torn and blood stained the pillow.
At least that’s what Alfred told himself. That this was just sleep. That master Bruce would wake up soon, right as rain. He had to believe that.
