Preparing to help him off the floor. As she waited for a come back she squats down taking his arm over her shoulder, then looping one of hers under his knees. In a swift motion standing straight uo- happy in her choice of sneakers at the moment.

Laughing as she held him "Does momma Mai need to rock the baby?" Speaking as if she was addressing a toddler.

Yeah, just as he suspected. He can see the dark marks on the sides of his neck - bruises in the shape of fingers. And if the pain radiating from the back of his neck means anything, that's all bruised up, too. Great.

He winces as he examines the bruises in the bathroom mirror, tenderly touching them. The pain isn't bad, at least.

Or he's grown so used to the chronic pain he's always in that this just doesn't compare. He'd been offered pain medication to deal with it - and on days when the pain is so bad it renders him completely immobile, he regrets refusing - but he's not about to bring drugs into this apartment where his alcoholic dad can get to them.

With a sigh, he heads back to his room to prepare for work. He's really in too much pain for it, but he'd rather be there than here with his dad.
