Using this week's @ficwip word game wednesday word, "visit." This is from my college jancy getting back together fic :)
“Wait, you had a boyfriend who went around taking photos of you like that and you let him go?” the girl gasps, her horror annoyingly exaggerated. To Tiffany, she lowers her voice and adds wistfully, “Why do all the girls living out my dreams never realize how good they've got it?”
“Beats me," Tiffany shrugs, grinning. "He’s kind of cute, too. If you’re into the artsy, quiet type.” Nancy shoots her best glare in her roommate's direction, but Tiff merely swings her long legs off her bed and points Stacey towards Nancy’s ribbon board, where she’s tacked up a bunch of old polaroids from home.
It’s not hard to pick Jonathan out amongst the various photos there; there's an old one of her and Barb at the fair, and her and her family at graduation, and then, right in the lower corner, not quite tucked out of sight.... Nancy's chest tightens as her eyes land on it. On him. He's got his camera around his neck and his arm slung loosely around Nancy’s waist. She's leaning into him, looking up at him happily, and he’s smiling, too. His real smile, not the forced, uncomfortable one he's got on in a lot of other photographs, like he's still not used to being on that side of a camera. Nancy had taken a lot of care to pick out one of the good ones from the several Mom had taken this past summer. It was just a few weeks later that he left for NYU, and she for Emerson.
Her eyes flinch away from the image, which Stacey clocks right away. Her friend's eyebrows shoot up into her forehead. It would be comical if only it weren't so grating. “Nancy, you’re like, totally still in love with him!” Stace frowns, eyes darting rapidly between Nancy and Tiffany for confirmation. “Wait, does he know you’re still in love with him?”
“What?” Nancy finds herself vigorously shaking her head, taken aback at this turn in direction, “No!"
"No he doesn't know, or--"
"No, I’m not still in love with him!" Both girls look at her skeptically. “I’m not!” Nancy repeats. “We’re just friends.” She leaves out that she hasn’t actually spoken to Jonathan in two months, or that his complete and total silence has her worried enough that their promise to stay in touch may have been one-sided that just this conversation has her swallowing down a wave of bile.
Maybe she is weird for keeping his photo up, actually. She reaches to her wall and tugs it off hastily, shoving the polaroid into the open top drawer of her desk and slamming it closed. Her heart keeps pounding in her chest even once it's out of sight.
Stacey exchanges another look with Tiffany. “Just friends,” she repeats, disbelieving. “O-kay.”
“Yes,” Nancy answers pointedly. She backs into the desk drawer as she says this, as if the incriminating photo is at risk of magically flying out again completely unprovoked. She wishes they both would stop looking at her like that, like they know something she doesn't.
There's a long pause in which Nancy's new friends stare at her in amusement, and Nancy contemplates why she was so desperate to make new friends in the first place. “All right, all right,” Stacey finally concedes, throwing her hands up in surrender and slumping down onto Nancy’s bed. “You’re just friends, then. Boring, but whatever you say.” Nancy’s shoulders finally lose their tension. Good, maybe they can finally get on with studying, now.
Unfortunately for her, Tiffany isn’t as ready to give it up. There’s a mischievous glint in her eye as she leans forward, prodding her all too innocently, “Well, since you’re just friends, can you ask him to come visit us already? If you don’t want him, I think Stace and I deserve to take our shot…”
Nancy plucks the tufted throw pillow from her bed and throws it across the room, aiming for Tiffany’s head. Beside her, Stacey falls back against her comforter, laughing her head off.
just started watch stranger things from the beginning for the first time ever and I hate that I like it. My friends are evil why did they convince me to do this
Apparently, a portion of the fandom can’t seem to let go of the whole picture fiasco… even though Jonathan apologized to Nancy and she’s been dating him for like 2 years now. So since it keeps coming up again and again, let’s talk for a moment about what Steve did when he found out about the pics Jonathan took:
If Steve was truly upset about the pictures and Nancy’s privacy, shouldn’t he have snatched them up and then handed them to Nancy when she arrived?? And you know, maybe sent all of his friends away to deal with Jonathan 1:1 to avoid more people seeing the pics?
But instead, he passed the pictures around to everyone and didn’t seem bothered one bit that people Nancy obviously did not know well were seeing the picture he was so bothered by.
So how about people stop focusing on proving Steve was the hero (he wasn’t) and that Jonathan was the villain (he wasn’t). Instead focus on why NO ONE WAS PROTECTING NANCY.
Just thinking about how Nancy and Ace both probably longingly watched these reels over and over again to make up for not having seen or spoken to each other in 5 weeks.
can you write some fluffy ronance? maybe nancy is sick and robin takes care of her ?
Aw yes, I love this!!🥺
Precious Angel
Robin x Nancy fluff
It’s January, which means it’s cold and flu season. Robin gets a call close to 10:00am that morning, waking here up. She sleepily answers the phone and mumbles, “Hello?”, then she hears a sneeze on the other line. Nancy says, “Hi, can you come over? I don’t feel good and I just- I want you here.” Robin could hear how congested Nancy was and immediately said, “Of course, I’ll be over soon, my love.” Nancy responded, “Thank you, baby” and Robin said, “Anything for you, Nance.” After she hung up the phone, she got dressed and biked to the store to pick up a few things to help Nancy feel better. She bought a couple cans of chicken noddle soup, cherry flavored cough drops, two boxes of tissues, Nancy’s favorite candy, and some tea that specialized in helping colds. She saw a cute teddy bear before she checked out and grabbed that for her too. After she checked out, she grabbed her bike from outside and pedaled her way to Nancy’s house. When she arrived, Karen and Ted’s cars weren’t in the driveway, meaning they were both at work. Robin set her bike up against the Wheeler’s garage, then grabbed the bag from the store and went to their front door. She knocked three times, then entered and said, “Nance, I’m here.” She heard some coughing from upstairs and made her way to Nancy’s room. When she opened the door, her eyes softened and she said, “Aw baby.” Nancy was pale, her nose was red, her eyes were puffy, and she was wrapped in what looked like 20 blankets. Robin walked over to her and put the back of her hand on Nancy’s forehead. She retracted her hand and said, “Aw my poor baby. I think you have a fever, my love.” Nancy was shivering, even though she was wrapped in all the blankets and she mumbled, “So cold, Rob.” Robin kissed her hot forehead and said, “I know baby. I know. I brought you some stuff, maybe it’ll help you feel a little better!” Nancy was able to show a small smile and she said, “Thank you, baby. Show me what you got me.” Excitedly, Robin grabbed the bag and said “Well, I got the essentials. I got you, chicken noodle soup, cherry flavored cough drops, tissues, your favorite candy, and a special tea that’s supposed to help with colds. I also got you something else, are you ready?” Nancy smiled and hummed, “Mhmmm”, then Robin pulled the teddy bear out from behind her back. She said, “I got you this teddy bear! Isn’t it cute!” Nancy was able to put a big smile on her face and said, “You’re so cute, I love you.” Robin smiled and said, “I love you too, Nance.” Nancy reached her hands out and did grabbing motions, wanting Robin to come cuddle with her.
Before Robin cuddled with Nancy, she wanted to make sure she was hydrated and fed. Robin said, “Baby, have you eaten today?” and Nancy sneezed, then shook her head no. Nancy said, while shivering, “Not- Not hungry, just c- c- cold.” Robin softened her eyes and tone, then said, “I know baby, but you need to eat just a little bit, okay. You stay here and I’ll be back up soon with some soup, does that sound okay, my love?” Nancy whined and said, “Want you here. Want you with me.” Robin said, “I know, my love. I’ll be back so soon though, I promise. After you eat and drink some water, then we can cuddle all you want. Okay, Nance?” She grumbled and said, “Okay, fine.” Robin then gave her a kiss on the forehead, grabbed a can of soup, and made her way to the kitchen. She put the soup in a bowl, then heated it up in the microwave. While she was waiting, she found a large glass and filled it with water. The microwave beeped and Robin checked to make sure the soup was at just the right temperature. She heated it up perfectly, grabbed a spoon, and made her way back upstairs to Nancy’s room. When she walked back into her room, Nancy pouted and said, “You took too long. I missed you.” Robin smiled and said, “You’re cute when you’re sick. Did you know that?” Nancy grumbled, but Robin made it all better when she planted a kiss on her forehead. Then she said, “Okay baby, let’s get some food and water in that cute little body of yours. Okay?” Nancy nodded and Robin said, “If you sit up, I can feed you the soup, so you don’t have to move out of your cocoon.” They both giggled at Robin’s comment, which made Nancy cough. Robin softened her eyes at her suffering girlfriend, as a shivering and weak Nancy started to sit up. Nancy said, “Please. Don’t want to leave cocoon” and Robin replied, “Of course, Nance. Anything for you, my love.” She grabbed the bowl of soup and the spoon, then made airplane noises as she moved the spoon to Nancy’s mouth. They both started laughing, which made Nancy go into a coughing fit. Robin said, “I’m sorry for making you cough” and Nancy said, “Don’t apologize. You making me laugh and taking care of me makes me feel like I’m not even sick.” They both smiled and then Robin continued feeding Nancy the chicken noodle soup. Nancy drank her entire glass of water and ate half her bowl of soup, before she was too full. When she finished, Robin went back downstairs, refilled her water and washed the soup bowl. She returned to Nancy’s room about five minutes later and as soon as she was in Nancy’s vision, she saw her girlfriend making grabbing hands. Nancy said, “Cuddles now please” and Robin just smiled. She placed the glass of water on the nightstand, then climbed into Nancy’s bed. Robin laid flat and Nancy curled up into her, then hummed because she finally got what she’s wanted for hours. She said, “Thank you for taking care of me, Rob.” Robin kissed the top of her head and said, “I’ll take care of you for the rest of my life, Nancy Wheeler. Especially, when you act so cute and adorable like this. My precious angel.” Nancy hummed and smiled, then nuzzled impossibly closer into Robin’s chest. She mumbled, “I’m alright with that”, then she rolled over quickly to sneeze.
When Nancy rolled back over and got into the same position that she was in before, she said, “Rob?” Robin hummed a, “Mhmm” and Nancy asked, “Can you- Can you call me angel more? I really like it. I like being your angel.” Robin smiled, then kissed the top of her head and said, “Of course, Nance. My beautiful, sweet, angel.” Nancy hummed and Robin looked down at her peaceful girlfriend, who’s eyes were fighting to stay open. She said, “Baby, you should get some rest. You can fall asleep, it’s okay.” Nancy mumbled a sleepy, “I love you” and Robin replied, “I love you too, my precious angel.” Robin started running her fingers through Nancy’s hair, not caring that it was sweaty from her fever. All Robin cared about in this moment, was helping and nurturing Nancy, whatever she wanted, she’d do for her. She watched as her girlfriend fell into a heavy sleep, exhausted from being up all night coughing and sneezing. She kissed the top of her head and said, “Sweet dreams, my pretty angel.” After a couple hours, Nancy woke up and quickly ripped all the blankets off of her. Robin looked at her confused and Nancy had tears in her eyes. She said, “Hey, my love, what’s wrong? What’s wrong sweetheart?” Tears started rolling down her cheeks and she said, “Too hot, but too cold. Just frustrated.” Robin said, “Aw angel, come here” and Nancy immediately curled up into her girlfriend’s arms. She cried for a couple minutes, wrapped in her girlfriend’s embrace and when her crying stopped, she looked up at Robin. Then she said, “Rob, can you do me a favor?” and Robin said, “Yeah, Nance. What do you need?” Nancy said, “I want to take a bath, but too weak. Need help”, then she had another coughing fit. Robin said, “Okay, sweetheart. Let’s get your fever down, then afterwards I’ll make you some tea” and then she reached for the cough drops she bought. She gave Nancy one and said, “Here baby, these should help with your cough.” Nancy mumbled, “Thank you”, then popped the cough drop in her mouth. Robin said, “I’m going to go start running your bath, angel. I’ll be back in a couple minutes.” Nancy nodded and Robin got up, then walked to the bathroom. She started filling the bathtub with lukewarm water and when it was three quarters of the way full, turned off the water, then returned to Nancy’s room. Nancy was sitting up with her knees held to her chest and Robin said, “Your bath awaits you, m’lady.” Both girls giggled and Nancy slowly got up, then walked to her bathroom with Robin holding her for support. Robin helped Nancy get undressed and sat on the bathroom floor, holding Nancy’s hand while she took her bath. When she saw Nancy start to shiver, she turned the hot water on for 30 seconds or so, making sure the water went back to being lukewarm. Robin asked, “Baby, do you want me to wash your hair for you?” Nancy looked at her with soft eyes and said, “If you- If you don’t mind.” Robin smiled and said, “Of course I will, sweet angel.” She got up from the bathroom floor, then grabbed the shower head from its holder and Nancy’s shampoo and conditioner. Next, she turned the water onto a lukewarm temperature, then started moving the shower head through her hair. She carefully and gently washed Nancy’s hair, making sure she didn’t tangle her hair or pull on it. When she was done, Nancy looked at her with those soft eyes that made Robin’s heart skip a beat and her brain feel like mush. She said, “Thank you for being so gentle and caring, baby.” Robin smiled and said, “Of course, sweetheart. Now let’s get you out of that bathtub and dry you off, hmmm?” Nancy nodded and Robin helped her out of the tub, then handed her two towels. She wrapped one around her body and the other she wrapped her hair in.
Once Nancy was mostly dry, her and Robin returned to her bedroom. She sat on the bed and said, “Rob, can you pick out clothes for me, please?” Robin nodded, then picked out a pair of underwear, a t-shirt, and a thin pair of pajama pants. Nancy was too weak to get dressed by herself, so Robin helped her. After she was dressed, Robin went and made Nancy her tea, as promised. While she was downstairs, she grabbed the movie, The Breakfast Club, and carried that upstairs with her. She popped it into the tape player, then handed Nancy her tea. The two of them watched the movie and ate the candy Robin got at the store. Nancy was cuddled into Robin chest and she said, “I love you and I’m really grateful to have you taking care of me.” Robin smiled and replied, “I love you and I’ll do it forever, sweet angel. I’ll stay and take care of you for the next couple days too. If you want me to, of course.” Nancy said, “Mhmm, please do, Rob.” Robin replied back, “Okay, sweetheart”, then started peppering Nancy’s face with kisses. She started to giggle, feeling so loved and cared for by her girlfriend. Soon, Nancy fell asleep on Robin’s chest again, she was just too weak and exhausted to stay awake. When Robin noticed, she smiled and said, “My precious angel”, then kissed the top of her head. She ran her fingers through her hair and thought to herself, “I wouldn’t mind doing this forever”, then fell asleep with a smile on her face.
