Whumpril Day 22: Recovery Setback
Prompt List
IDEA
Whumpee was in some sort of robbery situation and accidentally see's Whumper's face. (I imagine it's probably a group of robbers. Whumper is the leader/big boss everyone is scared of.) It's obvious that the group plans to kill whumpee. Whumper is curious about whumpee, but not enough to spare his life.
Whumpee swears that he wouldn't talk to the police. That he wouldn't tell a soul. But whumper and team aren't "naive enough to believe that."
Well, something happens and whumpee escapes. He's ultimately fine, perhaps a minor injury, but overall, physically, he will heal.
Now, in stories I've read, the character goes to the police, or tries to tell somebody. What does our whumpee do? He doesn't speak to the police. He says he doesn't know anything. He had his head down. Some excuse. But in my head, I see him going over to his friends house (or the person he trusts the most) because it's been a traumatic night and he doesn't want to be alone. And what does he do? HE WRITES IT ALL DOWN. Every detail he can possibly remember, chronologically, beginning to end. Whatever he remembers. Height estimates. Hair color. Accents. Tattoos. Piercings. Names/nicknames used. Any words/phrases/dialogue he remembers. He writes it all and seals it in an envelope and puts it somewhere (I imagine it as an inside joke. Where they can hunt at something but not actually have to say it. Whumpee is very cautious and everything.)
Think of something like this:
Whumpee goes over to F (trusted person). "If something happens to me, can you tell your mother I love her?"
It takes a moment for F to understand. F's mom is dead and her ashes are in the wardrobe in F's bedroom (or some location). So if something happens to whumpee, look near her mom's ashes.
Just by F's eyes whumpee knows she understands. "But ONLY if something happens to me, okay?"
After that interaction, the next morning whumpee goes home and tries to return to normal. How long does it take for whumper to visit? A day? Maybe he waited a week to see if he really wouldn't tell. Whumper's curiosity is now at an all time high, he can't just kill him now, can he?
Whumper kidnaps whumpee.
I imagine whumper as an 'I work alone' type of guy that only partners with the same one or two groups for big jobs where multiple people are needed.
When whumpee comes to he's restrained in some way. Eventually, he comes face to face with whumper.
"Why?" Whumpee asks. "I don't tell a soul."
"I know." Whumper walks closer to whumpee. "Honestly I don't know if that was brave or stupid."
"Stupid was you kidnapping me."
He cocks his head. "Should I have killed you?"
"No," Whumpee says shaking his head. "That would've been stupid too."
"Now why is that? We have to take precautions. Surely you understand."
Whumpee nods before meeting Whumper's eyes, "I understand precautions."
Now skip a few days, maybe a week, whumper storms into wherever he's kept whumpee captive yelling, "what did you do!"
"What do you mean?"
"Don't be smart with me! Do you want *whatever punishment* again?"
"How could I do anything? I've been locked down here."
Whumper takes a moment to calm down. "You said you didn't tell anybody about the robbery."
"I didn't."
"Then how do they know?!"
"I told you it was stupid?"
Whumper stilled, momentarily stunned.
"Do you remember what I said that day? It was something along the lines of, 'let me go and I won't tell a soul.' And I didn't. But incase something happened to me, just to be safe, I wrote a letter." Whumpee smiles, meets his eyes and says, "surely you understand precautions."
"What's your favorite song?" The whumper demands. "Tell me, now."
Flinching away from the words, the whumpee doesnt really understand the question. What could the whumper possibly do with that information?
"I'll count to three," the whumper threatens.
"Its [fav song here 😜], okay?"
The whumper smirks and searches it up on their phone. "I'm glad you told me, that's actually a pretty good song."
It starts playing over the speakers, and memories of happier times flood the whumpees head.
"Do you feel that? All that nostalgia?" The whumper bends their knees to reach eye level with the whumpee. "I'm gonna beat the shit out of you to this song every single day for as long as it takes for those happy feelings to disappear, got it?"
They stand up straight and crack their knuckles. "And I am a very patient person."
