Whumpril 2026 Day 22 (altprompt): "Where are you taking me?"

This one is pretty short but I do intend to continue it!

When the call went to Hero’s voicemail for the third time, Villain had decided to lean into his worry and go to check on her.

He was almost to Hero’s street when strong arms grabbed him from behind, with one hand over his mouth and nose and the other arm snaking around his waist.

Villain glared, his eyes glowing red. Who was stupid enough to attack him, Villain, when he was out, again, not as a civilian, and clearly not in the mood for games?

He threw the offending assailant off of him with a burst of red energy. He didn’t notice the patch on his neck until it was too late.

He ripped the topical drug off, the adhesive pulling at his skin and leaving behind a small abrasion. Already his head was starting to spin. His attacker righted himself and rushed over, along with three other masked figures. Villain knew their costumes all too well.

“Out past curfew, Villain?” Right Hand sneered.

Villain followed Right Hand’s every move, his eyes and hands flickering with power that was fading fast. A sleek vehicle pulled up next to the group just as Villain lost the ability to stand. Two henchmen grabbed him by either arm and hauled him into the back of the car. Right Hand climbed in next to him and gave the word to drive.

The energy in Villain’s eyes completely snuffed out. He felt the rumble of the engine as the car took off into the night.

“Where’re you taking me?” he slurred.

Right Hand ruffled his hair.

“Home, of course.”

A jolt of fear sliced through the lethargy, but it was only for a moment before the fog settled in his mind once more. He could only make out one more sentence before going under.

“Supervillain wants to have a talk.”

As soon as he realized he was falling, Leo’s instinct was to ensure it would be as quiet a collision as possible but that didn’t make it any less painful. Fire bolted through his leg as he twisted in a hasty, clumsy bid to catch himself on the bannister, only to misjudge the distance and slam his arm into it. The sling didn’t do much to cushion the blow and biting his tongue barely stifled the strangled sound that lodged in his throat, somewhere between a yelp and a curse.

He might have been better off just freefalling; ultimately he ended up sprawled akimbo on the stairs anyway, breathing as heavy as if he’d been running.

Running, lungs catching with the cold, feet on fire from the raw slap and scrape of the concrete. Don’t stop, can’t stop or they’ll—

Shuddering, he hugged his bound arm, fingering the sling in the hope that its texture would ground him. The joints in his hip and ankle were happy to remind him where and how he was too, throbbing urgently for attention. He swore he could feel them re-swelling already. To his even greater frustration, his eyes welled with them.

Master Splinter would fret. Mikey would slap ice packs all over him like a slab of frozen meat. Don would foist the crutch on him again. Raph would rip him a new one for daring to walk without it at all before he was “ready”—and all because the steady, capable student in his mastery of balance and grace and awareness of his surroundings had simply missed a stair in the dark.

His fingers dug further into his arm of their own accord, a deep, punishing pressure, before he sniffed hard and forcibly redirected them to the bannister to drag himself up.

When Scotty was dealing with Cthylla's hold on him, he had avoided sleepovers like the plague. It wouldn't do to have his friends wake up in the middle of the night to him thrashing around in terror. He didn't want to worry them (more than they already were, at least), and he knew there wasn't much they could do to help him anyway, so why should he place that burden on them?

Once Vester, Valentine, Felicia and Lilith helped him defeat Cthylla, it took a few weeks until he felt like he was finally out of the woods. After months straight of constant nightmares and paranoia, it was hard for his brain to get used to a normal sleep cycle. But he managed in the end. His dreams returned to normal, and when his friends invited him to a sleepover, he felt safe enough to accept.

Lumen and Delilah awoke to the sound of frightened screaming.

The nightmare was nothing like the ones Cthylla put him through. It was actually quite tame, all things considered. But his mind didn't care. This was his first nightmare since he freed himself from possession, and the only way he knew how to react to it was with extreme, unbridled panic.

Everything screamed at him; his head, his body, the walls, telling him that Cthylla was back. That she had somehow returned with the goal of tormenting him all over again. That he wasn't safe, and he was never safe to begin with.

He barely registered Delilah's hesitant words of comfort or the blanket Lumen placed on his shoulders.

All he could think about, all he knew, was the all-too-familiar fear.
