With the announcement of Surge for a mobile game, I can just picture Thistle trying to play only for the game to crash every time he tries playing as Surge. The game works fine if he plays as another character, or if anyone else plays as her, even if they're using his phone; it's only the combination of Thistle playing and selecting Surge, as if even the CG model hates his guts

DTIYS Contest Drabble: Poppun-Chan

For @poppun-chan. I think I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve written drunk Zim, and every time someone suggests it, I lose it laughing. Sure! I’ll take it! I’ll gladly become “that author who writes about drunk Irkens.” Anyhow, Poppun wanted a little snippet of Dib having to deal with Zim after the Irken gets drunk off of slushies. It’s implied at the end that Zim manages to distantly remember the events of Plastimart Rising and realizes too late that slushies will definitely get him tipsy.

“Your race can get…drunk… off of slushies?”

That seemed evident just based on Zim’s behavior. One moment, all was normal. They had been walking home from school after stopping at the convenience store. Dib had gotten a blue raspberry slushie, and after a certain amount of skepticism on Zim’s face, he had bought one for him as well. Not even twenty minutes after shrugging off their coats in Dib’s living room, though, Zim was swaying on his feet and slurring every second word he spoke.

“I don’t think…” Zim paused, blinking slowly. “I don’t know. What’s in this thing?”

Dib shrugged. “Just a lot of sugar, I think.”

Zim peered at the front of the brightly colored paper cup, squinting dimly at the letters. “Oh,” he said finally.

“What does ‘oh’ mean?” Dib rolled his eyes.

“Yeah, I’m probably—definitely what you call…” Zim looked like his brain had shorted out mid-sentence. Then, he hiccupped. “I’m drunk.”

Here’s another cat story I’ve been meaning to share, the Kalua incident:

This is another one set in the house my uncle formerly rented a room from when the couple that owned the house decided to put childproof locks on all the kitchen cabinets to keep the cats from slipping in and knocking things over or getting into the cleaning supplies.

All except one. They neglected to put a lock on the liquor cabinet thinking that it was too high up for them to reach, I’ve never owned a cat, but this was clearly a mistake.

As you can guess, they eventually got into the cabinet and knocked a bottle over….a bottle of kalua. It broke open on the floor and spilled everywhere, nobody saw it happen, but everyone knew they must have gotten into some of it because they were running all over the house, getting kalua paw prints everywhere.

Amazingly both cats were unharmed by drinking alcohol with caffeine in it, but they were up until all hours running around and it took days to get everything clean

Poppun, I missed your cat stories. It’s been a durn minute since I’ve drawn for PAK-Pet, so here’s a young Zim in Membrane Labs, doing absolutely nothing wrong:

I saw the last question reblogged and the idea of Zim perceiving these things differently is really interesting. Is it because their illusions are meant to fool a human brain and because Zim isn't human the settings (for lack of a better word) are wrong to trick his? Or because part of the process is partially mechanised, so it's closer to what a camera would pick up? Or is it something else entirely?

Pretty close! Every situation is different, and while Irkens are similar to humans, they’re still have major differences in biology that simply Earth’s cryptids are not used to. The Pak working as a ‘second brain’ and all of the weaponry and technology inside can be used as a defense/offense against these sort of creatures, physically, and psychologically (well….for the most part.) 

So tricks that work on human’s don’t exactly work on Zim. Example: the ghoul appearing to be more human to Dib than the actual creature it was in order to lure them deeper into the forest, even when Zim knew from the start that something didn’t look right. (Dib’s protest and him not knowing better though, Zim at first just brushed it off like it was another type of human he just hasn’t seen before)

All of these cryptids are Earthly cryptids who haven’t encountered anything that wasn’t human, much less something not of this earth. 

Zim may not know much of anything about these creatures, but they aren’t really prepared to deal with him either.
