Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 #poppy4 #legoshort
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak | Poppy and Heath
It'd taken close to three hours, but Heath was finally starting to notice a lull in the parties activities. People were starting to drift into their own little groups, and Heath was more than happy for them to do so. In fact, he'd been waiting for this moment all day. Maybe it was more apt to say he'd been waiting all week. Ever since she'd left him that note, Heath had simply stared at his phone; too afraid to call her; too attached to just let her go.
Even just looking at her across the crowded party turned him into some lovesick teenager. His palms sweating and whatever train of thought he was currently on, completely derailing. It was maddening.
What was worse was when he'd gone to get some food with his brother. While standing around to pick some up, Poppy had been stood by the table, talking to someone. Her back was to him, so it was doubtful she'd noticed him. Or maybe she had, who the fuck knew? What mattered was that she was there, close enough to touch, close enough to smell. God that smell. So different, so unique. And that hair. That hair that he was this close to just reaching up and threading his fingers through. If he had even the slightest bit of courage he would have grabbed her by the waist, spun her around and just kissed her in front of everyone.
But he didn't. The moment passed and all he did was watch as she slipped away from him without a care in the world. Because maybe she didn't need him. I mean looking around, Heath could probably count half a dozen people who Poppy could easily interact with. But Heath, Heath had no one. Sure his brother was with him, but that bridge was far from being completely mended. Maybe with time, but not now. Right now, he was practically dependent on Poppy. And that was perhaps the scariest thing about all of this.
So that's when he decided he was going to end this, one way or another. She'd said the ball was in his park, but he was obviously too inept to do anything about it on his own. They were going to have to settle this together. He waited for that one perfect moment when Poppy was in the house alone, and then followed her in. Walking up behind her, he placed a hand on her hip, pressed himself up against her and whispered, "We need to talk." Without waiting for a response, he guided her into an empty room and closed the door behind them. "I can't do this any more." He stated simply, without quite meeting her gaze.
