Don’t worry- that might sound grim, but this is actually a very wonderful story, a tale of magic and adventure all wrapped up in a romance so grand it could span the stars with a deserved dose of happiness at the end. But the truth is, it isn’t even strictly his. This is a story mostly about a boy named Steve, and it starts, like all beautiful things begin, with the sun.

Bucky looks as though his soul is about to leave his body in sheer annoyance. "I just—I really thought I was going to have a single this year."

"Yeah?" Steve keeps himself from snapping, but only just. "I thought I was going to have a room this year."

In which Steve and Bucky are forced to room together their senior year at boarding school, and accidentally soul bond to each other even though they kind of hate each other. All they have to do to get out of it is not kiss each other for a year so the accidental bond will fade. How hard could it be?

I have to submit Minka’s “The Wind Will Carry Us” because it’s a phenomenal story with great writing, incredibly vivid imagery, and the most badass of BAMF Buckys. More people should be reading it and giving some love to this story.

Steve runs as fast as his super-powered body allows him to, his heart racing in his chest, a result of adrenaline and anxiety. “Bucky!”

He reaches out and grabs Bucky’s hand, pulling him up over the edge of the cliff, and Bucky’s soaking wet and panting heavily, one hand still gripping the blood-soaked knife he’d used to free himself from the creature's grasp. “Steve,” he gasps.

“Steve,” he says, and Bucky hums. He looks like a Steve.

Steve is plagued by sleepless nights and nightmares of a world long gone. A recommendation from a friend leads him to kitchen witch Bucky's bakery. He soon realizes that maybe it's not the sleeping charms he keeps coming back for.

The Fray Will Well Become Me

Hello, how is everyone? I just wanted to recommend this original, well-written, and just absolutely wonderful transformative work. It is based on the concept of Loki being Steve’s father. This results in Steve being quite self-aware and cunning and generally has more personality. His characterization is definitely not depicted as goody two-shoes Cap. The author, mugwort_and_myrrh, has a gift with words and her descriptions are mind-blowing and stunningly unique. The setting is very realistic and stays true to the realities of Brooklyn in the 1930’s as well as the war. It has four works in the series. The first work is Steve’s childhood up to the Valkyrie. The second story is on the idea that Steve is awake on the ice. That one in particular is heart-wrenching and beautiful. The third instalment in the series is the events of The Avengers, and it is very interesting to read with Steve’s confusion and Loki’s role and often unpredictable twists to canon. The fourth fic is updated weekly and is the events the Winter Soldier. The best way to describe this fic in the series is in one quote from the story..“ It’s 11pm on January 16th, T minus four days until Justin fuckin’ Hammer is gonna be sworn in as President of the United fuckin’ States, and Steve is crouched on a fire escape overlooking an alley, dumpsters below wafting up the stink of wet cardboard and mouldy cinnamon rolls, watching a couple idiots in ski masks trying to break into an electronics store.” I must insist everyone give this series a try even if it doesn’t sound like your cup of tea. I promise you will not regret it.
