There is an outline to the body, both mine and yours. It is simultaneously a shared experience and completely isolated. We see these lines time and again, we witness the envelopes that contain each individual, and we know. Yet, being oneself can never be shared like so much of the life we live. If materiality teaches us to value what we can touch, and hold, and possess, of course our value of each other, and ourselves, falls short of that test. Each body is a barrier to a world each of us has been building our entire lives and will continue until our death. In English the saying goes, “the eyes are the windows to the soul” and it makes sense to witness Outside through glass, the tint and clarity varying. Though I can’t help but wonder; what then is the door? Because there is one. I’m sure of it. Right now, I think it’s this. When we do. When we share. When we put a little bit of our Inner into the Outer of this third space between your outline and mine that we call The World. And maybe what I’ve placed there will be seen through clear windows and it’ll make an impression on the other side of the plane.
