nick did have one regret. he didn't exactly UPHOLD the slogan 'once a warbler, always a warbler' and keep in touch with the other boys who wore the navy and red tie. once he went to HARVARD LAW and graduated, he became too busy after getting hired at one of the biggest law firms on the east coast. when he heard the familiar and unique voice of kurt hummel, he knew instantly that he HAD to turn back to see if his ears deceived him or Kurt really was there. thankfully, it was the latter. "Kurt? Oh my gosh, It is so good to see you!"

    it’s like LAVA is hitting his face — he’d gotten a slushie to the face before, all the glee kids had. it was cold and unpleasant, but this was different. painful. his shoulder hits the concrete first, it’s a pain that he’ll notice later. he cries out, immediately feels kurt’s hands on him. he’s saying something, but right now his brain is only focused on the pain. both eyes hurt, but the pain in his right eye is far worse. he keeps his hands over his face. feet can be heard running away, but kurt’s hands stay steady on him. 

    eyes feel as though there’s shards of glass in them. he keeps them squeezed shut, noticing a warm liquid beginning to leak out from the right side. he realizes this was a planned ASSAULT. slushies don’t make people bleed. as awful as the pain is, he’d do it again in a heartbeat for kurt, especially now that he knows the true intention.

He rolled his eyes, of course agreeing with Sebastian was world ending. He had good ideas of his own. Some more nefarious than others, but he had decent ideas. “Can I get a recording of that, for posterity?” he asked with a bit of a smile since he was joking, because while he could rub it in, he rather be a bit of a bitch about it.

    he likes cooking, but if he’s being honest he’s not feeling the greatest himself. he sets it next to a gatorade on the coffee table and kneels down next to the couch. ❝ or i could run you a bath. whatever you want. ❞ it feels good to be taking care of someone else for once, instead of the other way around.

everything was happening so fast. 

    a few months ago he’d started the auditioning process for THE SCANDALS, an original broadway production. dozens of NYADA students auditioned — open auditions were a huge deal there. everyone at the school dreamed of becoming a star, it’s why they were there. 

    blaine was just finishing his fourth semester when he decided to go for it. he tried not to get his hopes up, despite the casting crew seeming to like him. but he kept getting callback after callback, wanting another audition. a few weeks ago he was called in as a finalist for ezra mercier, one of the five main personas. the audition was tough, intimidating. the two others he was up against had both already been in shows before. blaine was comparatively green, but certainly not any less talented. a few days ago, he’d gotten a call that he’d landed the part. 

    he’s still in disbelief as he approaches the ruby room, the private venue chosen for their first gathering. there’s few names on the cast list he actually knows, which comes as a bit of a surprise to him. this show seemed to be going for something different — looking for fresh, talented faces rather than a lot of big names. kurt hummel sounds vaguely familiar, but he can’t quite put a face to the name. 

    the room is a lot busier than he’d anticipated. everyone is there, from the crew to the cast to the orchestra and dancers. it’s sort of nice, not knowing who is who. nobody is being made out to be more important than anybody else, at least not yet. he’s probably one of the only underage people there, everyone else appears to be in their mid-twenties to thirties or older. blaine still has almost another year until he’s 21. 

    he finds himself feeling rather shy, which is unusual for him. he stays close to the casting director, one of the only people he knows. everyone here seems to know someone. blaine feels lost. he knows they’ll become family with time, but at the moment it all feels so foreign. he feels a tap on his shoulder, spins around to face them. ❝ hmm? ❞

    the day driving back to lima was probably the longest day of his life. he didn’t even play much music like he normally would. a car ride to lima or new york usually consisted of multiple stops for snacks, belting his playlists from show tunes to rock and pop. this time, he was rehearsing his lines the whole drive -- as if it was just a scene to play. he only made one stop in the nine hour drive, leaving around 7am to get there by early evening. it’s also a surprise visit. he’s made sure they’ll be home, but hasn’t told them he’s coming. it just feels EASIER that way. 

    initially, his parents are thrilled to see him -- they all share a long hug and lots of smiles. his mother finishes up dinner and gives blaine a plate, but he can’t eat. he can barely stand to be around food right now, his stomach in knots with anxiety. she catches on that something is wrong, shows a lot of empathy and concern until he starts to talk. he watches his mother’s face flush, his father’s turn beet red. a two and a half hour conversation ends in a screaming match between blaine and his father. pam, as usual, doesn’t stick up for either one of them. blaine knows better than to raise his voice at his father, he sees it as the ultimate form of disrespect. but blaine doesn’t have much respect for him right now, not after everything that was just said. 

    he ends up locking himself in his old room, now the guest room. it’s fitting, he thinks -- this isn’t his bedroom anymore. he doesn’t feel like he’s at home, he feels nothing more than a GUEST.  he lays on a cold, plain mattress, only giving himself a minute or two to calm down some before texting kurt. his mouth is bone dry from yelling. he’s lightheaded. he can’t breathe.
