How to Use Setting Powder
One of the most common mistakes people make when it comes to setting their face is quickly dusting powder over their skin and calling it a day, whilst this is quick and easy it really isn’t the most effective way to use a setting powder and set your makeup in place. Not only can it disturb the foundation underneath, but it can also give you an uneven, dry and cakey finish to your makeup.
Using a Brush
Today, brushes are the most common tool used to apply powder to the face. Brushes are certainly a great tool for doing so, but you must use not only the right brush, but the right technique.
To set your face using a brush:
Try using a soft, yet dense brush of a medium/large shape
Grab either loose or pressed powder (whichever you prefer) onto the brush and tap off any excess
Gently “press” the brush on top of the skin
Press the brush onto the face and gently “roll” the brush to apply an even distribution of powder
After applying the powder use a small, soft brush to dust off any excess if necessary
Setting Under the Eyes
Setting your concealer underneath the eyes is something that can really help improve your makeup. If you have issues with your concealer creasing this is a great way to lock it into place. Alternatively if you find your eyeliner and mascara smear on a regular basis, setting your concealer can help prevent this as eyeliners and mascaras are often attracted to creamy concealers.
To set under your eyes:
Use a fluffy blending eyeshadow brush
Gently press a loose powder directly on top of your concealer
After pressing in the concealer you can then dust/wipe underneath the eyes using the same brush to blend and smooth the powder
Using a Powder Puff
Powder puffs often get a lot of hate, but they are something that everyone should have in their makeup bag. Although they’re often associated with heavily powdered skin and “grandma” style makeup they can give a beautiful seamless effect to the skin and can be a real essential, especially for oily skin.
To use a powder puff:
Take a small amount of loose powder on to a powder puff and gently “roll” the puff to distribute the powder evenly
Tap off any excess from the puff on the back of your hand
Fold over the powder puff
Gently press the powder puff into the skin
Once the face is powdered use a soft brush to remove any excess powder if necessary
