This is a portrait I did over the holidays as a Christmas commission, and I was pretty proud of it so I’m posting it as an individual image in addition to the panel piece I posted a while back. I like the painting alright, but what challenges me the most and what I’m most proud of is the amount the photo differed from the painting. I was given the photo, which was lit differently and much darker/low res, and told that both women had lost a significant amount of weight since it was taken. I worked in several rounds of comps, drawings, and revisions to alter their faces and bodies significantly while still making it look like them. The other reference I had to go on was a photo of one of the women when she was much younger, and I had to marry the differences to arrive at what she looks like currently. I’m not sure if you can tell, but after it was painted the image again underwent a number of changes, especially to the face. I can definitely tell my skill with photoshop is improving - I worked really hard to keep the look of the painting while making pretty dramatic changes. Finally, the image was printed on a 3ft canvas to hang in the owners home. I was a little nervous that some of the digital edits would show up when it was blown up so big, but it looked great, and the client was happy with it! . . . . . . . . #mariaoglesbyart #portraitpainting #portraitcomission #watercolor #freelanceartist #etsyartist https://www.instagram.com/p/B7zEZeQDRBU/?igshid=zdqod14wg0s7
