High tide left a swarm/smack/bloom of venomous Portuguese Man-o-War jellyfish on the shore. I decided to make a project of it and had the kids research the creature know as the “Floating Terror.” Here are a few cool facts: The PMoW is actually composed of SEVERAL district organisms that inhabit one body - a colonial organism. It is the only species with its own genus and its own family. It’s pretty unique. Their tentacles can grow up to 10m long. The Portuguese part of their name comes from the sails of Portuguese war ships. A Portuguese man-o-war mermaid in Alphonse Mucha's style. Her helmet was inspired on Athena's helmet. The depicted fish here is the man-o-war fish, the only fish imune to the Portuguese man-o-war's toxin.

I was forewarned about the Portuguese Man O’ War when I went to Bermuda. They weren’t hard to spot either, there are so many of these jellyfish when I went swimming along the shores of Jobson’s Cove! They are spectacular in sight but quite painful to the touch I heard lol. Thankfully they’re not life-threatening otherwise I would’ve thought twice before I decided to come this close for a picture lol. I haven’t played with the colors in these photos everyone, Bermuda’s ocean waters are actually this blue. It’s a sight to see and how often is it you get to see beautiful jellyfish like this without going to the aquarium?? The soft sand was awesome to lay on and the sun burn wasn’t too bad even though there weren’t any clouds in the sky lol. The one thing I wanted to see was the Parrot Fish, but I couldn’t spot it lol.
