A lot of times I think I’m adequately communicating with my friends through a mixture of texts, likes and passive viewings of social media accounts. Life is hectic and unforgiving so it’s easy to be selfish and focus on me for long stretches and forget that sometimes our friends need us a little bit more than usual and can’t or won’t say so. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that I’ve never once regretted the time I’ve spent with good friends. I never once thought my time would’ve been better spent worrying about personal or career problems. I’m making more of an effort to pause during the day and instead of opening Instagram I’ll send a text, make a call, drop by the apartment or even FaceTime a friend and really, actually talk. I’ll ask how they really are and maybe mention a nice memory or joke they told that I found funny. Most importantly, I want to make it clear that if they ever need it I’m always around to listen. I know firsthand getting out of your own head is hard. Sometimes you hold onto dark and anxious thoughts because a cold familiar hand is better than nothing, but slowly it pulls you further and further into the abyss. I’ve been there before and you know what helped every single time? The warm and familiar hand of friends who offered to hold on and pull me back up. Let’s be there for each other. #positivepush #enjoyit https://www.instagram.com/p/B4jBnQZgBed/?igshid=16l5ndt7oa3ic
