On my to get the bus home from town yesterday evening, I passed the St Martin church at the Bull Ring. I sometimes forget with all the modernisation of the city centre that we have retained some very old buildings. This current version of the church, Victorian and Grade II listed building, was rebuilt after being demolished in 1873. The spire and tower being preserved from the previous church building. The original church on this site was from the 13th Century (documented in 1263) and it was enlarged in Medieval times to consist of the ‘lofty nave and chancel , north and south aisles and a northwest tower with a spire’. I think I’ve mentioned before that although I’m an atheist I do admire churches and the history of their building. To think that eyes, nearly 800 years older than mine, have looked upon this, worked on the building of it. I’ve posted the black and white version as the colour one looked too busy to my eyes.
