It's almost a week late, but I have finished my fanart for @theevilemster 's Lupin Monster AU. I love her designs and ideas so much. Fujiko especially is just...very much my type lol😍

I know there were a few asks already about Goe, but I have some questions about him in the monster au bc I just find the idea so fascinating. How fast is his transformation? And does Goemon have any control while Zantetsuken is possessing him? I’d assume he does since he has to be able to play the flute to calm the sword’s spirit down, but he also seems like he gets pretty out of it when he’s possessed. Also how fast is his transformation? I remember you mentioned that developing the steel skin is painful, but I’d assume in order for possessed Goemon to be able to fight he’d have to develop the claws fast enough to strike, so is it kind of just a flash of pain? The fact that Goemon still seems to have a rather positive view of being possessed despite the painful and monstrous transformation as well as Zantetsuken wanting to kill his friends says a lot about how badly he doesn’t want to face the idea that what’s happening to him is dangerous and malignant. ANYWAY SORRY LOL I’ve just got so much curiosity about this au and how the gang all interact and relate to each other in this, as well as how deep each other their curses go and their relationship to them. You come up with such fun worlds to think about!

Anyways, onto the questions at hand!

How fast is his transformation? It depends if Goemon is holding it back or not. As you mention, he plays his flute to calm down. There is a slight feeling of heaviness that Goemon pinpoints as a sign that Zantetsuken wants to be in control and depending on the situation (like a fight etc) Goemon will let it happen. In these situations the pain is brief, but if Goemon is trying to keep control and the flute is, let's say stolen, then it's a painful fight for at least control of his mind even if the body changes...

Now about the mindset regarding his situation: Goemon has been wielding Zantetsuken for who knows how long and the sword acknowledges this. In fact, it's proud to have a wielder so dedicated to it and Goemon can feel that whenever the spirit takes over. But the conflict is that Zantetsuken wishes to cut all things deemed 'evil' - the demonic forces that have emerged in full force ever since Lupin III became one of them. The rest of the gang - now turned into these very forced, despite retaining their humanity despite the transformations - are still deemed monstrous in Zantetsuken's eyes. This is what Goemon fights against.

Eventually the spirit learns to accept that the gang is still the gang, their physical transformations haven't affected who they are at their core despite the problems they face.

Lupin's urges to drink blood from humans, but he takes animals instead - fighting against the Vampires that turned him.

Jigen's full moon rampages are spent with the gang as they find a way to keep him contained - continuing to stay beside Lupin despite the current feud between Vampires and Werewolves (I'll be getting to that another time 😉)

Fujiko never giving in to using dark magic despite the temptation.

The spirit learns to accept them as Goemon does, as his family.

sorry for more Goemon asks gnghdnf I just love ur monster au— how terrifying/confusing was the gang and Goemon’s first encounter with Goemon being possessed by his sword? Did it try to attack them? Did his transformation happen right there or was there gradually more drastic changes as Goemon was possessed? I imagine as well it took a bit for the spirit of Zantetsuken to acclimate to puppeteering a human around and using Goe’s body, since it’s been the other way around for most of the sword’s existence.

There were signs that something was up with Goemon for a while since Lupin was bitten and Fujiko started practicing her magic. Sudden awakening in the night as Lupin swore that he had seen Goemon floating in his sleep, an overwhelming urge to slash at anything that moved and a voice... A strange commanding presence that piped up every so often in his head.

It was when Goemon was ambushed by a group of witches that Zantetsuken made itself known, there was a floating feeling and the sound of metal slicing the air around him. There was a strange, calming feeling about it.

And then he heard Lupin and Fujiko calling his name. He realised what was happening to him... The sword had a spirit.

And the spirit was dissatisfied.

Can you please clarify Goemon’s powers a bit more?

So I know he is possessed by the spirit of his sword, but when is his transformation triggered? What is Goe’s relationship with the spirit? Does he hate him, learn to respect him, etc? And how does the like the actual physical alteration to his body?

So Goemon's transformations are usually triggered when he draws his sword in the heat of battle or if there's an overwhelming presence of supernatural energy - say a large gathering of vampires or a high classed demon etc. But it can also emerge when it feels the need to cut something or when Vamp! Lupin ends up getting on its nerves (which is a lot)

To calm it down and to stop it from possessing him at unneeded moments, Goemon will play the flute as the tune seems to soothe the spirit.

Goemon's relationship with the spirit is a strange one, he hates not being in control but in a weird way he accepts it because the sword is his life and now they finally come together as one. The spirit, however, wishes to purge all demons and monsters from the world. The Lupgang, now turned into these creatures, are no exception. This is where Goemon has to stop himself and try and reason with Zantetsuken to let them find a cure instead.

As for the transformation itself, the spirit transforms Goemon's body into the same metal as the blade itself. It's a painful process but beneficial in battle. His sharp claws can cut through anything, as well as reform into a blade and like in 'Goemon's Bloodspray' he can see glimpses of the future + predicting where the enemy will try and attack.

Eventually Goemon learns how to leave his physical body for a certain amount of time as well as help others do the same (though he only does this once Zantetsuken starts to get along with the gang more...)

Yo I've actually got a question about your Possessed Goemon AU! I was wondering how exactly that works. Like is he a spirit medium who can talk to the dead via possession?? Or is it something else?? Sorry for random pop in but I'm really curious about this lol.

Goemon has changed quite a bit compared to the start of this AU. Now he's become less of a medium and more like if Zantetsuken was given human form. The swords spirit possesses him, so I still like the idea that he can see glimpses of the 'other side' as it were.

But his main conflict now is trying to control the bloodlust that Zantetsuken has developed from being around high supernatural energies - wanting to cut down all demons, vampires and such. And this is including the gang too, but it can be calmed when Goemon plays his flute. (We all know the theme he'd play 😉)

LOVING the menacing look of your Goemon monster redesign! Are those white fangs on the side of his mouth breaking through his cheek or are they outside of his mouth? It kind of reminds me of an oni!!

Yeh, the fangs are breaking through the cheeks (icky) and I did want to give him an Oni feel so I'm really glad that came across in the design :D
