The Mysterious Disappearance of Roanoke Colony

The mystery behind Roanoke has always creeped me out. I knew a bit about it, but this video presents a ton of details and plausible (an less so) theories on what may have happened to the people of Roanoke Island. 

I also want to mention that the zombie idea is far fetched, but the idea of a plague may not be. An additional theory that’s less plausible but not impossible is that the people of the colony were caught in a plague that wiped them all out, and of course didn’t spread as they were on an island. This would bring the question of how it got to the island - maybe someone brought it back after travelling to the mainland, or maybe it could have come from animals on the island.

The theory that strikes me as the most likely is the second one. there seems to be the most evidence to support this, and would also definitively explain the word “croatoan” on the tree.

Have I mentioned the night my brother chased after not-our-dog yet?

It just came to mind again. Sometime last year I hear my brother yell for our dog and then BOLT after her down the street when it appeared she'd hopped the fence.

Our dog is named Amelia Pond, btw (big doctor who year for the whole family when we got her) so imagine a gangly 6ft man running down the street yelling "AMY!!AMY!!" In a panicked tone: It was probably quite a sight.

Lowe and behold, my parents come up from their room with Amy right beside them.

I finally flag down my brother, who is absolutely distraught and finally get it through to him that she's been INSIDE the whole time.

He still tells this story obviously afraid he was hallucinating or something, but we do all believe him. What was weird is that our other dog, Zero, was totally chill with this stranger who apparently just hopped into the yard for a short moment.

Amy is a black lab-springer, and basically looks like a lab got shrunk just a little bit. Not an uncommon look really, but it's still kind of weird that a dog so similar just. Showed up.

That night I actually dreamt about the dog myself. I ran into an empty intersection and what I thought was a car was a black dog, eyes glowing red like break lights. I remarked in-dream that, oh, that's the dog my brother saw.

The next day we got news that my maternal grandfather had passed away.

I think about that whole event, my dream, everything, along with all the symbolism of The Grim and black dogs overall a lot.

The fact that the same night not long before it all happened, my mom was distraught bc she'd been told her father wouldn't last the night all the way on the other side of the country.

It's a weird series of events, at least. Makes me think.

I used to have this battery powered doorbell on my bedroom dorm and it would go off without anyone touching it during thunderstorms. Does anyone know why this happens?

The Short Bald-ish Man

So I recently moved to Corsicana, a small town in Texas. I've mostly been on my own, though I do have some cool room mates. Anyway, that's a bit off topic for what's on my mind at the moment.

Ever since I started college back in San Diego, I noticed something that was increasingly odd as different occurrences of the same situation presented themselves. I have noticed that no matter where I go, where I live, there is always an instance of the same person. Or roughly the same.

I know it sounds really stupid to be like, "Oh it's so weird, 4 guys from different areas look the same!", but it's sort of one of those 'had to be there' kind of things.

Basically it's this small white man. He's got slightly thinned out short gray hair, lots of stubble and a mid-pitch voice that seems just a little higher than your typical person, and with a slightly nasal intonation (I think that's the word). He always regards me as if we've spoken before, and I get the feeling we have despite not at all knowing him.

The first time I met an instance of this man was when I was going to college in Downtown San Diego, he was a member of the college's staff and responsible for running the program or something like that. But ever since then he's been popping up again and again, and I know it's not the same guy.

I just had to note this somewhere because as I said, it's been in the back of my mind for the longest time.

Maybe I actually am just imagining it, or maybe I'm starting to get my share of my family's history of schizophrenia. Either way, it's really odd.

So I was petting my cat, right?

It’s the middle of the night, so everything’s dark, but when Lyra wants attention she gets attention, so there I was, petting Lyra in the dark.

And then she looks down the hall to the bathroom, the darkest room. She walks cautiously over, a bit of a hiss behind her purr. She just stood there, staring into the dark for at least a minute.

And I have this crystal-mobile-thing hanging from my ceiling, and you can hear it when it moves. It just moved without anything pushing it to move. No fans or anything on.

I don’t remember this house being haunted.

I’ve lived in it for 10 years, you’d think I’d notice.

So, my family has a history of sensitivity towards the paranormal. I never really put to much thought into it until the shadows i would see moving out if the corner of my eyes begun to happen in the shadows i cast on the ground. I feel like they'll just walk up to me one day like a random cat on the streets and say hello.

My dad told me about a dream he had when we were talking tonight and apparently in the dream he was driving around with his grandma ( she died in 2008 or 2009. I don’t quite remember.) Anyways he’s been kind of a jerk lately and he said that she said something like this to him:

"I’m okay with you being gay, but you’re an asshole. Stop acting butt hurt when you really aren’t, and quit saying and doing things just to make people mad."

I really do think it might have been her (well, her spirit anyways) because for one, those do actually sound like things she would say, and two, because that’s how my dad has been acting lately. Regardless of if it was really her or not, I kinda hope it wakes him up.
