I dunno about what other people are saying, and I'm sure a lot of smug racist assumptions are being made, but I'm white and had to have a serious discussion with my dad about not voting for Kanye

I have realized that sounds like Well Actually - what I mean is there are serious conversations to be had with people about not throwing away votes on a spoiler candidate.
OK, first: oh my, you have my sympathies.
I do think that more people than I would like would vote for him, don’t get me wrong, but I figured the sort of people who would vote for him on Tumblr would be the “I’m voting for him for the lols because voting doesn’t matter” 2woke4u types, you know? People who are too stubborn to have adult conversations with anyway.
And I won’t lie that my anxiety is ringing the alarm bell like “Trump won the presidency! Literally any idiot with enough ego can win! That’s been proven! Take this seriously!”
But what was pissing me off was all the hand wringing from white people on the left that Kanye would split the vote...for democrats. His whole platform (if you can call it that) is literally just a republican platform with some anti-vaxxer shit thrown in. The only non-conservative viewpoints I could find were him being pro-blm and against the death penalty. That’s it. Like sure he wants to run third party but that is, once again, more about ego than beliefs. He’s running a conservative platform.
And I know exactly why people are saying he’d split the democrat vote, because white people have shown all throughout the primaries that they assume that black people will vote for literally anyone with enough melanin (hell I once saw someone say that the only reason Biden was more popular than Sanders with older black people was because he “reminded” them of Obama, so essentially voting black by association). And what really makes me mad is that this used to be an idea that you’d only associate with republicans! The whole “oh, black people only like that candidate because they’re black, women only like this candidate because she’s a woman, there’s no other reason” take was specifically conservative! But now #woke types think they can rebrand it as progressive! But you can’t!
Like look, I’m not saying No Black Person Would Vote For Kanye Ever, but I am saying that all this hand wringing is specifically based on the idea that black people don’t know what we’re doing and are too stupid to recognize where we stand in this country.
(this is why I compared it to white people in the hamilton discourse; it’s not that I don’t think white people should be able to criticize the show, it’s just that there tends to be this weird, patronizing “Oh, Silly Brown Man, Don’t You Know The Founding Fathers Were Problematic(tm)?” bend to it that makes my teeth itch)
