A Collapse of Confidence
The next day was more getting lost in the maze. They took one corner and then another. Sadie was finding the occasional flower or exciting looking leaf and was bounding ahead. The day wore on with Kireen (the twelve year old) scolding Sadie (the fifty year old) to stay back and let the stronger people lead. That never kept Sadie for long. At one point of relative calmness with Sadie and Kireen in the lead, there was a rumbling and beneath their feet and the dirt began to fall away. Kireen grabbed Sadie’s arm and ran but the dirt fell faster. The two of them, Sadie in her leather armor, and Kireen in her plate, fell through the ground, landing with a splash. Donar and K’lai’a’la stopped in time, just outside the radius of the collapsing earth. Sadie surfaced, spluttering and looked around for Kireen but couldn’t see her. Sadie called out for help to her other companions. It did not take long for Donar to understand how dire the situation was. He removed his chain shirt and dove through the hole into the dark water below. Sadie knew she wouldn’t be of much help dragging Kireen to the surface so instead she grabbed the pommel of her rapier and reached into the weave of magic surrounding her. It didn’t take much to set the pommel glowing. She thrust the light source as high as her tiny arm would reach and was able to make out a slope of rocks from what looked like another cave-in just across the way. She made her way over to it and once she was safely on land, watched the water anxiously for any sign of the dragonborns.
