You've met Mapi?? holy shiz, what when where how omg details pls!

Yeah I have, twice in fact!! The first one was during a last minute friendly Spain played against Tacon at the end of August I think. They had literally just announced the match that morning so there was only about 70 or so people there, many of who were friends of the players. I managed to speak to almost everyone after the game (although speak would probably be an overstatement since I just went with a variation of good luck against France you're going to smash it to everyone) and get a photo with them. Mapi arrived and she was probably the most sought after player and so I was just there looking at her and her awkward puppy eyes as she tried to talk to everyone. It got to be and my mind just went blank lol, I asked her for a hug as other people had done and then took a photo, I thanked her and thay was about it. They were all super sweet though that day and hung around for ages talking to friends and family and even taking pictures with the tacon girls. The only one who didnt appear was Alexia, but theres not that much surprise about that

Then the second time was about a month afterwards when they played against Rayo Vallecano in their men's stadium. It was quite the disappointment tbh both in terms of audience (only about 900 people turned up) and the score so probably wasnt the best game to go to but it was my last opportunity to go before I went to the UK. Still they did all come out, alexia included, and there wasnt too many people there so I managed to get some of them to sign a shirt i had. I spoke to caro and steph the most probably since they were a bit shook someone actually came up and spoke english to them (I didnt know whether to crack out my french with Kheira or stick with spanish or just go with English so that was more awkward). Mapi was clearly not as much in the mood but she came out with wet hair in a bun and just damn that was me gone. Special mention to leila's wet hair too.

Hi, thanks for rayo tacon recap! What about the post match dynamics you talked about? Anything interesting you can tell us?

oh yes thank you for reminding me to get into a lengthy narrative of my lowkey fangirling from afar (or near in fact). Okay so the whistle went and literally everyone just stood up and started wandering onto the pitch which I was slightly disconcerted by. Some started playing on the pitch with balls they had brought along, some were media reporters who started setting up for interviews, some were family and friends who stood around for chats and some were people asking for photos and autographs- the whole wide range basically. 

The first thing that I saw was Babett looking slightly unsure of what to do the poor woman, one girl came up to her asking for a photo which she readily did. Then she finally started walking over to the stands where Ella and a few other people (friends I assume) were just coming down and onto the pitch from. They hugged and ella kissed her cheek which was very cute and then the group of them were in deep discussion for quite a while. Ella took a picture of Babett and the other few people (i’m waiting to see it emerge on social media) and then she walked off to the dressing rooms whilst Ella walked past me and someone else asked her for a photo so that’s cool that even she is being recognised in Spain!

Asllani walked off towards the changing rooms after a few minutes, she understandably wasn’t much in the mood to talk after the match. Jakobsson stayed longer taking pictures with both players and fans alike before going down the end to talk to someone but as it was on the other side I couldn’t quite make out who or what she was doing there, my friend suggested an interview so that might be it.

It was nice to see Chule, who used to play for Tacón and is now at Rayo, be showered in so much love by her ex-teammates. There was a time on the pitch during a corner that Rayo was defending which was quite funny: Chule was marking one of the og tacon players (jessica maybe?) and basically put her arms around her in a hug which was very sweet. Thing is that she didn’t let go when the corner was about to be taken meaning she ended up using it as a distraction/inconvenience tactic😂. But no after the match they were taking photos together and talking a lot so clearly it all just stayed in the game. 

Thaisa Moreno was talking to the couple of people stood next to me and I couldn’t quite figure out the dynamic but she was telling them about the match and the problems she’d had to really feel comfortable on the pitch. There was clearly other stuff being discussed as well but I didn’t eavesdrop further. 

That’s all the interesting bits I can think of at the moment but if anything else comes to mind then I’ll add it on. I’ll just mention here though, because why not, that the audience is definitely older in spain than in england- less young families and more older (mostly) girls with their friends and youth teams

Post-Match Analysis: Crystal Palace/Manchester United

I thought we could’ve won it but we weren’t clinical enough in the final third. Having Hojlund back is a big deal because we need to score more goals. It was a good performance for most of the match, it’s just annoying that we let them back into the game. I also would’ve liked to see more effort to win the game at the end.

All in all, it was an okay result for a wasteful day. I’ll be looking forward to the rematch at Old Trafford for sure. The key takeaway was the improved possession, how we looked more comfortable in possession. I liked the way we kept trying to play through the lines in the first half, credit to Glasner to figuring out how to nullify that in the second.

Onana deserves the man of the match for me. We could’ve easily lost this match if not for those double saves. It’s no secret that I didn’t want him here, but we do tend to do well with developing goalkeepers. I hope we can help him improve because his long-range passing hasn’t been on-point; we should at least be able to count on his shot stopping. He did his primary job today brilliantly, so no complaints from this peanut gallery.

Post-Match Analysis: West Ham/Chelsea

3-0 losses for both West Ham teams, bad day for the Hammers. I hope it’s a cautionary tale for all clubs’ fans as their club works towards moving up the table, careful what you wish for when you’re crying from the rooftops for the manager to be sacked.

It’s been a royally unorthodox approach to a rebuild for Chelsea. I hear they have a system for analyzing and identifying young and promising talent, which is fine, but the execution of their recruitment has been absolutely shambolic since the new owners came in. Credit to Maresca for standing up to the leadership and insisting on what needs to be done to have the team function better.

One thing that stood out to me was Cucarella coming into midfield to get on the ball and facilitate play in the first half. We hear about inverted fullbacks all the time — plural — but Chelsea really relied on one today and did it to full effect. Rather than employing multiple passes to build out from the back, he would slot in 20 yards up the pitch and all the center backs had to do was pass it long between two pressing players, beating the press with a single pass. They did it repeatedly and the Hammers never worked it out for the remainder of the half. I think there were only 3 or 4 passes to play Jackson in for the second goal. As my martial arts instructor always told us, “Simplicity works”…right before he’d blast us with a basic front kick.

Have you met any WSL players?

I have! Although I was set to meet some more, including the arsenal lot, just after the matches were postponed. I wasnt able to meet anyone at the Birmingham v Chelsea match because I had to leave pretty quickly, so I only got to see Magda patiently signing for the large people who had crowded around her from afar.

After the Birmingham v Man City match I was able to speak to quite a few though. I spoke to most of the Blues girls, Kerys Harrop who had just come back from injury was really nice, and I had a short chat with Becks Holloway about the match and the general trend of their not so great matches this season. There arent that many people who fully follow them and stick around after matches so they're generally able to talk more and some of them seemed quite surprised when I actually mentioned other games theyd played, as if they thought that most people had just come to watch city. Which tbf did hold some truth in it as everyone was waiting for the city girls. Most of them went straight into the changing rooms after the cool down so I was only able to speak to Ellen White, which my goodness she commands so much respects in person. Hannah Hampton was probably the most sought after Blues player, children really seem to like her partly because shes easy to recognize in her gk kit and because shes super sweet back to them. Lucy stayed out for ages (probably didnt want to go in and face Marta lol) so I also got to briefly talk to her and gush about her midfield performance. The only one that I wanted to but didnt speak to was Chloe, she'd absolutely bossed it that day but clearly wasnt in the mood to stay out too long in the cold.

Then the other two matches I've seen are Coventry v Liverpool which was my first match in england and Coventry v Spurs which was the last FA Cup match. Of the WSL teams I only properly met Lucia Leon who's a Spanish Spurs player. Shes also a friend of a friend so we just chatted a bit about her and spanish life. I didnt meet anyone else in those matches, although Rosella Ayane sat directly behind us and was loudly doing the spurs ig stories all game and Jo Potter was on the sidelines for Cov. I've met a few of the Championship Coventry players, but mostly because one of them is my friend

Ireland's defence is sooo flat! It hasn't really improved at all since last week. Also BOD is having such a bad international season, he's making really poor decisions especially when it comes to defence. I don't know whether it's a lack of game time or just tiredness but something is very off there.

There's also a serious lack of communication across the board. They just don't look like a cohesive unit. For example the kicks aren't being chased at all, no effort's being made to chase. Also basic passes aren't coming off.

Also so many basic errors, always the way with Ireland. When will they ever tighten up that area?!
