WIP Wednesday
It’s been a hot second since I’ve written anything as the horrors (health and work and the general state of the world) have been persistent, but I missed Codywan.
“Drop the blaster.”
Oh. Oh. Cody knew that voice. He heard it in his dreams, both the soft ones and the nightmares from which he woke screaming. His blaster hit the ground, not because of the ghost’s command, but because his fingers were suddenly trembling in a way they never did, and his heart was hammering away in his chest so hard he was afraid it might burst.
A relieved laugh, an apology, and a scream of grief stuck in his throat, and Cody couldn’t swallow around the lump as the ghost ordered him to his knees. The crunch of rotting boards seemed to echo through the old house as he dropped to the floor, and he felt a hysterical sob building and tried to hold it back, but it broke free, the choked noise deafening in the darkness.
“I killed you.”
“You certainly tried.”
“Senator Organa sent me. I’m the one that’s here to get you out.”
“And why would he send you of all people to save me?”
It struck him that Obi-Wan didn’t know, that he thought his men had turned on him, that he thought Cody had turned on him. He didn’t even try to hold back the hysterical sob at the realization. How could he explain so much when they didn’t have any time?
When had they ever had enough time?
“We have to go. I need you to trust me.”
“I did once, and that is not a mistake I will make again.”
Cody expected the blaster bolt and rolled, and the stunner just missed him. He was honestly a little surprised that Obi-Wan wasn’t shooting to kill given what had happened, but it gave Cody hope that he could make him listen. He ducked into the nearest room, narrowly avoiding the second shot, and he drew in a deep breath, hoping he got the chance to plead his case.
Wide brown eyes met his when he looked up, and the world spun violently as he took in the small figure just a few steps away, a young girl with dark curls and tan skin with a smattering of freckles over her nose. The resemblance fully registered a heartbeat before he was forcefully yanked from the room and sent careening into the wall, everything growing hazy and grey for a few moments before a familiar snap hiss made his blood run cold. Was Obi-Wan really going to execute him in front of their daughter?
How many Jedi had he and his brothers executed without question?
"you're as beautiful as the day i lost you" but it's cody finally finding obi wan on tatooine, trying to think of something to say, trying to find the right way to apologize for everything, but being at a total loss for words the moment he sees obi wan.
what if Palpatine forgot to trigger the control chips in the Coruscant Guard? They would have been the last priority, since, without a general, they had no one to attack. imagine being the Coruscant Guard in that scenario. Dooku’s dead, the 212th are running down Grievous, the war is almost over and you will get to see the Republic at peace. Then, the Jedi are dead at your brothers hands (the temple, the children, how could they?), the Republic is gone, and all your brothers seem to have no questions. imagine being Fox. He knows Bly and Cody and Wolffe, knows how loyal, how devoted they were to their generals. do you think he’d remember Fives? Standing in the Senate, facing the Emperor, do you think he’d remember the clone who, raving about a conspiracy, tried to kill the chancellor?
Commander Cody’s first sunrise in a very long time.
Alternate plus close up under cut.
