How To Deal With Your Post And Pre Workout Meals? Part Two: The Post Workout Meal’s Solution
Pre and post workout meals are something easy, but people makes it complicated by the lack of information and the variety of choices. In these series of articles we will try to make it simple and give you some useful advices about pre and post workout nutrition.
As we saw in the last article about pre workout nutrition (Click Here to read about preworkout advices), the main purpose is to give you fuel in order to perform well during the workout. The post workout purpose is to repair the damage of workout, build muscles and substitute the energy given during the workout. Another difference between the post and pre workout nutrition is that pre workout snacks and meals can be avoided – especially if we want to lose weight- as we saw before, but a post workout meal or snack is mandatory to repair and energize your body after a workout session.
What A Post Workout Meal/Snack Must Contain?
One thing which is known worldwide is water, if you don’t hydrate your body after a workout you are exposing your body to dryness which can destroy all the effort you have been giving through years or months of workout. After water we still have 2 mandatory foods you need to eat after your workout, which are carbs and protein. While proteins, as everybody know, help to build muscles, carbohydrates helps your pancreas to produce insulin which helps your body getting the maximum of the amino acids from protein.
For protein you can eat eggs, meat, chicken and fish, you can also have whey protein but before you need to consult your nutritionist and doctor. For carbs I recommend oatmeal, brown rice, etc. And here are some pre workout meals to prepare at home and enjoy after a hard workout session.
How long After A Training Session Should I Eat My Post Workout Meal/Snack?
When it comes to nutrition, timing becomes very important for people who want to move to the next level. What is common between all specialists about post workout nutrition, is that it must be taken maximum 1 hour after a workout, if you go over you will start destroying all what you built during the workout session. If you take your post workout 30 minutes after your workout session it will be the best.
