I went through all the effort to dig a water moat around an area, but the only thing it's ever killed (if you don't count 20 of my own dwarves) is a single agitated emu that was already wounded, just now

By this time tomorrow, the fortress of postcatch will either be a mountainhome or an outpost for the circus...
After the Crundle Event happened yesterday, two more of my guys died, and really all I had were children, administrators, and miners, who I didn't really want to make busy doing other things.
Then I got two consecutive migrant waves, each with like 50 dwarves, so now I'm scrambling to set up 100 more bedrooms
Also I'm accepting all the monster slayers that come around because I settled in an untamed wilds area and the animals really do not like my existence
LMAO a weretortoise came by and one of my miners who was out digging a ditch just decapitated it in one hit
The guy isn't even considered a miner yet; I just recently reassigned him because a child threw a tantrum and killed the old miner in his place
Inspired by me starting this blog (and also weirdness with my last fort) I created a new fort in a new world. It's in its second year (spring of 101), so nothing too major has happened yet, but there was something kind of silly.
So I was mining towards the magma sea. As you do. I dug down until I reached semi-molten rock. But I'd managed to avoid breaching any cave systems, which I kinda wanted to do so that I could move my animals inside. So I just set my 3 miners off to mine the veins around my staircase.
One of them mined into the moss cavern. Then there was a passage down into the underlichen cavern. I immediately scheduled dwarves to build walls, but a group of like 10 crundles ran in before I could get them up. Then another one of my miners exposed the fungus cavern, and like 4 troglodytes—similarly—came out before I could build a wall.
I, of course, had no military whatsoever.
But somehow, all I lost was a dog and one of the dwarves I hastily recruited into a squad.
