It’s a holiday show, so I thought I’d create something that emphasized vibes of well-being and goodwill towards others, and also, love is pretty trippy. That was my intention at least. Really excited to share my latest poster for the wizards of jam @spaffordmusic Years ago when I had no idea what I was doing with posters (I still don't), I would sit around and find really long Spafford jams and just let those jams lead me into some weird designs. I have been listening to them since I was a kid, so it was nostalgic and quite an honor to be asked to work on this for them. I remember seeing them on flyers for Cafe Metro shows when I was just a kid. They have obviously come a long way from those old punk show days! It was rad diving back into their music and it brought back a lot of memories. Concept for this one comes from a robot that is featured in the artwork/story for their latest album (which is rad!) taking over Pittsburgh. Had a ton of fun designing this one. I was supposed to do a Black Keys poster for their Halifax show in May 2020, but we all know what happened there... but 2 years and 2 albums later the lads are back on the road and their camp kindly made it up to me with this Holmdel, NJ poster opportunity. This one was pretty fun to draw. NY Metropolitan Area is one of my favourite places to be, and one of my favourite things about it is the bodegas. They're a perfect cross section of the people and history of the micro-community they're located in. Fun fact, Midnight Oil was almost named something along the lines of Bodega Design, but I learned with some deeper research into them that would have been appropriative. Swipe to the very end to see a poster idea that didn't make the cut, but you better believe I'm going to pitch to every one I can until it gets made. Anyway, these 5 colour hand-printed posters will be available today at 12 noon New Jersey time, EDT, at shop.midnight-oil.ca which is linked in my bio.
