I don't think pictures can do justice the utter bliss of Porto's Bakery potato balls. But I drove an hour just to buy a box because I was craving them so much.
Papas rellenas are mashed potato balls stuffed with spicy ground beef and peppers and onions, breaded on the outside. And they are delicious.
This time of year, they also offer turkey potato balls. Mashed potatoes stuffed with turkey, porcini mushrooms, and a little crunchy carrot, doused in silky gravy. Then breaded with sage and panko and baked and oh my gawd they are so good.
And then there's the chicken croquettes. Oh man, they might just be my favorite. Creamy savory chicken, shaped and breaded and baked. Bursting with flavor. Such umami.
AND I brought home a guava pastry and a coconut pastry. Just to balance out with some sweet flavors.
It's been over a year since I had any and DAMN they were good. Worth it. Pure BLISS.
