i talked about how jason should be racially ambiguous, but he also looks the most like bruce canonically (not saying much imo, most of them look a lot like bruce)

what i want for that is that its not necessarily bruce he looks the most like, but martha and thomas. like theres the post @prlssprfctn made about him being so much like thomas (here)

and i like that read, especially personality wise, but what i want is jason to look so much like bruce because he is the perfect mix of thomas and martha wayne. and i know she looks different in a lot of the more modern continuities, but her soft black curls and pale eyes are what i imagine.

just a jason who looks so much like bruce because he looks like a sibling to him. bruce is a beautiful mix of both his parents, but he leans more towards thomas and he knows it. then there's jason, who walks and talks so much like thomas it's almost uncanny. jason who acts so much like thomas that people attribute his looks to him as well, and then he cocks his head just a hair to the left as he smiles, and his face softens, pale eyes framed by soft black curls and the ghost of martha wayne flickers on his face.

bruce not noticing until jason comes back, his memories of his mother held in photos of her well into adulthood. he sees his father in jason, and by god does that hurt. but he sees jason with his guard down- jason chatting it up in his favorite bodega, jason smiling at his team after a hard won battle, jason curled up with a book like he did as a child- and he sees flashes of his mother, the same vibrant smile, angled grin, the same turn of the lips set in the same jaw.

those flashes hurt, seeing this boy he found and lost look so much like the others he's lost. there's a brief deprecating moment where he thinks that is what damned jason. that jason is just so much like the people bruce lost and so bruce's own cruel fate had to rip the boy from him as well.

he didn't think he'd see his mother in his kids. sure they each acted in ways he could see his mother acting, had personality traits he vaguely remembered her portraying, but none of them really look like her. they each take after their own parents enough that he doesn't see ghosts on their faces if he looks too long.

jason knows that his father looks at him with the eyes of a man haunted by memory, he just assumes its the memory of his own past. he does not know just how disorienting he is to anyone who knew thomas or martha, let alone both. that everyone who sees him and knew them has this faint whisper in the back of their head.

its part of what made the gotham elite whipser about him. the idea that a crime alley brat could be so much like the thomas and martha, that bruce would just happen upon his parents' carbon copy. he's too young to logically /be/ theirs, but he might as well have been. and that twists up any elitist in the upper echelons of gotham in a way little else would.
