snores and it sounds like a little horn honking.

tiny red hairs. everywhere.

usually wakes up before you, and the first to pull you in bed at night. watches you sleep and strokes your cheek until you wake up. never in any real hurry to get out of bed.

only wears polka-dot boxers or heart-shaped boxers to bed, nothing else. you buy him colorful pajama pants one time, and he humors it for about a week before kicking them off and going au naturel to prove a point. whatever point that is is lost on you.

while not a fan of cuddling all the time, penny does occasionally beckon you over to sit on his lap while he reads in his recliner, head resting on his shoulder while he blows cigar smoke away from your face.

have heard him whisper “i love you” when he thought you were asleep.

curls his limbs in all kinds of pretzel shapes to touch every bit of skin he can. eventually you both compromise for penny’s sort back and your lack of air during the night and penny settles with just tangling his legs with yours. 

occasionally though you do wake up to penny, torso twisted and arm stretched out along the floor.

loves cuddling whenever he can get it, grabbing you and crushing you in his grip muttering “i missed you so much my little human” and other slightly off-the-wall terms of endearment. surprisingly enjoys being the little spoon.

purrs and jingles like a cat when you run your fingers through his hair.

once you booped his nose and his eyes went crosseyed for a few hours.

likes sleeping in full getup, sans shoes. sometimes wears a big t-shirt and boxers you brought him though, if only because they smell like you.

This piece makes strong reference to the Christian story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego entering the furnace. The piece further highlights the relatively myopic view the western world has taken on addressing the events taking place in Syria, while attempting to bring attention to the extreme horrors to which the people, especially children, are subjected to on a daily basis. However, the strength, resilience, and willingness to move forward regardless of any circumstances is placed forefront. Nearly a year and a half ago I received a multitude of pictures from a friend’s trip to her homeland, Syria (@grace.boeve ). Understanding the responsibility entrusted to me through these images, I have taken this time to gather perspective as well as educate myself on the conflict. Like with any conflict, there are talking points, politics, and people - the everyday people living with the results of others actions or lack there of. This piece serves as the first in an ongoing series entitled “Pennywise, Pound Foolish”. The phrase in itself is a reference toward ignorant investing, and also draws from the primary antagonist in the cult classic film “IT”. This series will run in parallel to my general artwork, and is an attempt to set the grounds for true change. Through these works I will address crimes against humanity from around the world, starting with Syria. As a result, 50% of all proceeds from originals and prints will be donated to organizations committed to ending the specific conflict to which the art addresses.
