One of my favorite scenes in My Hero Academia is the one where Midoriya goes to the teachers lounge to ask All Might about the Nighteye Work Study program. (Episode 65 I think?)
Students are considering internships and Eraserhead mentions how almost all the teacher unanimously agree that it’s too soon for kids especially with them recently moving into dorms due to villain threats. They make the compromise with general public opinion and school board to let the kids only do internships if they can get them with agency’s that have proven track records in order to assure their safety.
It's just so comedically slice of life as we get to actually see the teachers interact and talk without their normal level of persona when genuinely talking about the students and their work. Ectoplasm mentions wanting to go to karaoke, Present Mic makes banter and calls All Might emo, Thirteen and Midnight talk about differing viewpoints regarding the internships. It's also interesting how teachers we see less often like Ectoplasm and Cementos speak as if they are aware of Midoriya's tendencies and training suggesting they also pay attention to each students dispite not teaching heroics as their core subjects.
I genuinely laughed out loud when Midoriya started yelling in the middle of the dead silent teachers lounge about how since Nighteye was all mights old sidekick it would be a perfect fit. Midnight, Vlad King and Ectoplasm are just staring at him. This boy had zero decorum or idea how to hide the whole secret mentor thing whatsoever. He was so loud about it that All Might had to shush him. He keeps talking so familiarly infront of the staff being up the quirk similarity and how “you laid the groundwork for me” and how he called All Mights old teacher for advice.
The implications of this are amazing because it means that foremost Midoriya just had Gran Torinos number and talks to him despite All Might still being scared shitless of him. And it also highlights how them being close isn’t even a secret like they tried to make it seem at the start of the year. Secondly they called Mirio into the teachers lounge over the loud speaker, the possibility of Midoriya getting called into that office ever other day is so funny. I’m aware that he most likely just texts All might but the concept of the morning announcements regularly including instructions for Midoriya to make his way to the office is so funny.
Also the casualty that the other staff entered the conversation and added commentary made it feel like Midoriya was just a regular in that room. Which is a really funny concept when you combine him harboring so many secrets, constantly getting into trouble and being a huge hero fan.
So here are some teacher lounge scenarios I thought up, under the pretense that Midoriya is just saying shit in that room with no regard for volume or witnesses.
1) The lounge is empty other then Eraserhead and Mic sitting in the back of the room comparing schedules to find a good day for a joint class training exercise. Midoriya and all might are leaving one of the private conference rooms not noticing them. Midoriya walking past Eraserhead and Mic in the teacher office while talking to All Might.
All Might: That reminds me kid, are you sleeping alright? I’ve noticed you’ve been missing your normal morning runs?
Midoriya: oh yeah I’ve been having these weird dreams lately of all these dead heros and it’s making it really hard to sleep. I’m pretty sure they’re the spirits of the deceased users and I mean I’m not complaining or anything but sleep paralysis is a lot scarier when you know it’s real. Oh! That reminds me, you were so right about your old mentors hairstyle the resemblance is uncanny!
All Might: Ah you’re referring to Nana! Yes she was so pretty right? It’s a shame she died so young please tell her I said hello!
Mic and Eraserhead: …
2) Eraserhead heads straight to UA after a patrol late at night, it’s the early hours of the morning and far earlier then anyone else would be in the building. He walks into the teachers lounge and Midoriya is simply sitting at All mights desk back turned to the door, he’s just sitting casually scribbling in his notebook while muttering not paying attention to the new person in the room other then tilting his head slightly in their direction as a greeting. Eraserhead is confused as to why this kid is in the teachers lounge alone at four in the morning with no supervision.
Midoriya: All Might, Good morning! Alright so good news is I’m doing amazing at this whole having a quirk thing! Very thankful for that by the way. But umm, little problem? Bad news is that they are multiplying and I can’t think of an excuse to tell everyone so I think we should go with my quirk works by manipulating and challenging energy into different manifestations? That will explain the strength, float and Black Whip but danger sense is a little tricky? Maybe we could say the quirks creating a force field around me that can sense small shifts or that it’s subconsciously enhancing my senses leading me to notice imperceptible changes in the air? What do you think?

3) Snipe grading papers in the teacher lounge looking up to notice a very perplexed looking Midoriya who’s searching the room, the student is holding a thick file of paperwork frowning.
Snipe: Hey kid, ya’need something?
Midoriya blinking : Oh, Snipe-sensei! Hello sir it’s so cool to meet you I’m a huge fan, I’m just trying to find All Might if you’ve seen him I need him to sign some paperwork for me.
Snipe holding out his hand: hmm, unfortunately he just left for an emergency. I don’t think he’ll be back anytime soon partner. I’ll hold onto it for now and I’ll give it to him when he returns. How’s that sound?
Midoriya suddenly very pale : oh um! No…. There’s honestly no need! I’ll come back later it’s no problem! I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you!
Snipe: nonsense, it’s no hassle. It’s the least I could do for such a acclaimed fan.
Midoriya handing him the paper: right…
Snipe: …
Snipe: Midoriya…this is a quirk registry alteration request?
Midoriya: right.
Snipe: … Midoriya this says you were quirkless until this year.
Midoriya: right.
Snipe: …
Snipe: Midoriya, this says you have 3 new quirks and you named them all superpower.
Midoriya: right.
Snipe: …
Snipe: … Thank you Midoriya, you’re excused.
4) All might in the teacher lounge elbow deep in the printer trying to get it to work to the amusement of several other staff members, his phone starts ringing in his desk when Thirteen peers over to look at it.
Thirteen :… oh, it’s Midoriya?
All Might: Ah, just leave it for now, I’m a little preoccupied. I’m sure it’s nothing urgent he should be in fine for a few minutes.
Eraserhead glaring : No, I doubt that’s a good idea. Ignoring the fact you have my students contact information—which we will be coming back to— if he’s calling you directly it might be important with his track record.
Midnight peering at the screen: Why do you have his number saved as ‘Midoriya my boy’ wait are the rumors true are you guys actually related? I thought that was just another one of Todoroki’s conspiracies!
All might: haha! perhaps you’re right Eraser, he does tend to be a bit of a trouble magnet, could someone put it on speaker please?
Midoriya over the phone: -All Might! Thank goodness you picked up, I was at the mall shopping when I got jumped by the league of villains. Me and the class went on a group hang thing to prepare for the training camp and I split up to get some stuff when I hear this voice two inches from my ear. You know that blue haired guy who attack the USJ? The creepy whiny one with the hands who needs lotion and wouldn’t stop itching? Well apparently he saw me by coincidence and decided to semi-kidnap me for a conversation because supposedly fifteen year olds make good conversation. Well all of a sudden there’s four fingers around my neck and I’m trying to act normal because he’s threatening to go on a killing spree with a bunch of civilians around us. Anyway we’re sitting on this tiny bench in the middle of the mall and his hands are around my throat and he’s complaining about the hero killer to me like I care?! And he starts whining about how the guy is more popular then him and whatever and he’s asking me questions because Stain kept spouting stuff about how I was a real hero in his eyes after I jumped him last week and now the whole underground thinks me and him are associated! It’s not even funny I might actually need to release a statement saying we aren’t affiliated. Also he’s just a straight up bum. He’s unemployed with a crusty hoodie, dry skin, greasy hair and he plays league of legend, I think he’s living in someone’s basement, he has a basement smell to him. That’s besides the point, the point is that I’m sitting in this police station right now talking to your detective friend but I lowkey said some really incriminating things trying to not talk about our secret when other officers were in the room so can you please come her and bail me out before they straight up arrest me? They keep asking me about the hero killer stuff and I can’t really say I jumped the guy when my classmate tried to kill him during a crash-out. No genuinely I can’t say that I’m actively under a gag order. They wanted to know what exactly I said to Shigaraki when we were talking but like god forbid I answered his question! Shigaraki wanted to know why people liked Stain and not him so I gave him my honest opinion and now I look suspicious! I’d just like to say I definitely don’t agree with the hero killer! I just semi-understand his justification in regards to corruption and I can relate to being an All Might fan, that’s literally all I said! And the police did NOT like that. So ummm… help? Please! I’m like kinda hiding in a storage closet right now to make this phone call and I need to leave soon before they get suspicious. I’m really sorry to bother you I’m not trying to use your influence or anything it’s just really hard to keep national security secrets under wraps when I’m being questioned by a human lie detector. Do you have enough time to stop by? Preferably before they start asking about inconsistencies in my quirk paperwork!
All Might:…young Midoriya, you’re on speaker.
Midoriya: … What? Okay… um. Is that no on the whole bail thing?
Eraserhead: Me and All Might will be there shortly. Don’t say anything without a lawyer.
5) Thirteen and Midnight are sitting in the teachers lounge on their lunch breaks, they are eating quietly and across the room All Might is also sitting at his desk looking over paperwork, the door suddenly bursts open and Midoriya shuffles into the room eyes darting around until they land on All Might.
Midoriya out of breath stalking towards the hero: All Might! do you have pull with school board.
All Might Blinking: Young Midoriya, Well I’m the number one pro hero so… I have pull everywhere?
Midoriya: School Trips.
All Might: … You want to go on a school trip?
Midoriya: I need them gone. All Might this is insane. First the USJ, then the Training Camp, then Toga jumping me at the provisional license exam . All Might I got accused of mass murder on forgein soil during a school trip. I had to destabilize a goverment last month. We were stranded on an island with a supervillian. I need this school to give me three days where I don’t get attacked or brutalized. They are going to draft us into a war. I can feel it in my bones, Yagi. Please, finals are in three weeks I don’t have time to fight in a war. All Might I’m fifteen and borderline failing physics class right now I need you to postpone the child solider thing until exams are over.
6) Midoriya gets called into the teacher lounge by Eraserhead and Hound Dog who are waiting for him at a desk, He shuffles into the room staring at the Canine hero debating if this is a good time to ask for his autograph.
Eraserhead: Midoriya, this will be quick we just had some concerns with your paperwork.
Hound Dog: Ha! And by concerns, we mean the complete lack of any professional documentation!
Eraserhead: I was trying to access your files from middle school so we could find a way to minimize injury’s from you quirk but to my surprise we couldn’t find a single note from a quirk counselor. The only comment was a classified statement from the hero commission that read ‘late bloomer’ care to explain?
Midoriya: Quirk counseling? Oh I’ve heard of that! it’s like when hero’s seek quirk analysis but for younger kids who can’t properly control their powers right?
Eraserhead:… for lack of better words yes, however you should be familiar with it considering all children in Japan below the age of 12 are required to see one annually. For someone of your circumstances you should still actively be seeing one. Hound Dog brought it up with me because we were trying to make him your primary consultant while you stay at UA.
Hound dog: What kind of inept negligent counselor allowed a kid to enter high-school without proper documentation! Especially with a quirk so self destructive as your own! It’s completely unacceptable-
Eraserhead: Ignore him. However we do need the information, when’s the last time you saw a quirk counselor? Even if you got it past the age of four we should have some kind of communication present. How did you even get your regrestion updated without a signature from one?
Midoriya blinking: All Might!
All Might from his desk who’s been eavesdropping:…Yes?
Midoriya: you were also a late bloomer, did you ever see a quirk consular?
All Might:… No? I didn’t feel the need to.
Midoriya: Was I supposed to see one?
All Might: …I thought quirk consular was just another word for quirk analysts. Nobody mentioned it to me when I got yours updated?
Midoriya turning back to his teachers:… um, so I didn’t really ever see one. I just had All Might update mine. Is that… a problem?
Eraserhead and Hound Dog: ….
All Might and Midoriya: ….
Eraserhead: Your excused, Midoriya.
7)Midoriya in the teachers lounge after scheduling an appointment with PowerLoader to discuss hero costume modifications. Several other teachers are also in the room doing their own work and on breaks chatting quietly.
Midoriya: So I have some notes they’re totally scribbled and not very good quality from what you typically work with but please consider them!
PowerLoader: No problem kid relax, these are actually pretty decent as far as analysis goes! Most students don’t put half the amount of work you do into their requests.
Midoriya: Thank You! I um… had these in mind for a while! Childhood dreams and that kind of stuff? But anyway I was thinking we stick with the current design themes I have and focus on improving the support present in my arms and legs? I’ve been steadily increasing the strength of my quirk during my shooting style and it’s putting a strain on my older costumes joints. Here I have some additional ideas for those specifically.
PowerLoader: woah! Okay you already surprised me with how well detailed your notes were. I knew your analysis was crazy good but where’d you’d learn the support gear stuff? This is some advanced level work…
Midoriya: hmm? Oh! Umm I figure the mechanics out with a support gear designer in America, he gave me these reinforcement arm wraps I used in a battle there and they worked wonders. I kinda destroyed them by going 100% while using full cowling but he gave me the information and we worked on making a downgraded version for daily use. He did most of the mechanical stuff I just broke down my quirk and its functions.
PowerLoader: A big shot over in the states no doubt! Spill the beans kid, who’d help out?
Midoriya: Ah! Well… David Sheild, All Might got me in touch with him. You probably heard about that whole villain attack when the pros got kidnapped during a fancy dinner event? It was whole thing I don’t really know how much I’m allowed to talk about…
PowerLoader: You personally worked with David Sheild. As in THE David Sheild.
Midoriya:… well I didn’t work with him as much as throw ideas around? I saved his daughter so he made these for me as kind of a thank you. Like I said he probably only did it because All Might brought me along.
PowerLoader: …Right because out of all the students in our school, All Might decided to bring you specifically to a different country for an hero event where you fought a villain together and got introduced to the David Sheild.
Midoriya: Yeah! I mean technically the whole class was there for one reason or another. I just happened to meet the guy no big deal! Nothing suspicious about is.
PowerLoader: …
PowerLoader: I see, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue with the… notes you’ve provided if you’re willing to do a few more tests on your quirks output. Do you still wanna stick with the green rabbit theme?
Midoriya:…Rabbit?
PowerLoader:…. Yes the ears? Are they not ment to resemble bunny ears?
Midoriya: No! they’re not! well I intended for them to be a homage to All Mights hair… you know like how the respirator looks like his smile?
Powerloader: … Right. Of course.
Midoriya: …
PowerLoader: No, I think that’s very nice of you. I’m sure he appreciates it.
Midoriya: …
PowerLoader: Midoriya I’m sorry I called them bunny ears. I didn’t mean it, they are clearly a very well thought homage to your mentor. Wait Midoriya please-
8) All Might and Midoriya are walking past a meeting room, inside Cementos, Ectoplasm , Snipe, and Hound Dog are looking over new security guidelines they’ve implemented. The door is cracked open as they wait for the arrival of Nezu. None of the teachers are in view from the inside due to the positioning of the table but they can see the approach of the hero student and his mentor as they sit down in the main section of the teacher empty teachers lounge.
Midoriya: -I just think it’s a little pointless, I mean I’ve been at this school for what? Half a year? And I’m on near death experience number 8 to 9? But now the entire class has to go to a mandatory consultation with Hound Dog. Apparently the teachers are concerned about our mental states or whatever because we qoute on qoute lack a health sense of fear? And that’s not to be rude to him by any means I’m a huge fan! His advocacy in mental health for hero’s and heteromorph rights is so admirable but I really can’t tell him anything that isn’t a national security threat or under a gag order.
All Might: I see the conundrum… I suppose we could look into you getting excused from those events if I talk to Nezu? But it might be beneficial for you to attend one session at the minimum. Perhaps you could confide in any stress you experienced prior to UA? It’s important to know even hero’s need help sometimes.
Midoriya: it’s not like that’s any better, what am I supposed to tell him? Hey Hound dog, Wanna hear about the time I was bullied for being quirkless for 10 years and then told to end it by my childhood best friend and then almost drowned by a sludge villain that jumped me under a bridge and then taken to a rooftop by my idol who saved me where my dreams were crushed after he reveled a national secret to me and left there only to find out later I accidentally resulted in the villain being released and attacking said childhood best friend so in a moment of stupid desperation I risked my life to save him before being told I could be a hero by my idol and given a quirk? I trained relentlessly for 10 months. He made me eat his hair. And now I have a shiny new quirk that mutiliates my body. Let’s dissect how that psychologically influenced my self-worth and preservation skills!
All Might: Okay so maybe not… all that stuff! You could always talk about the villain attacks you’ve experienced? Just don’t mention details about the League or All for one, or your quirk. Or the secret.
Midoriya: hmmm… I can’t really talk about Hosu since they put a gag order on me for that, you know with the whole fighting the hero killer thing. And I’m not allowed to talk about the raid on the yakuza since they don’t want people knowing I fought and beat him. I should steer clear of talking about Nomu or the league… oh! There was the whole thing at the festival when I ran into and fought Gentle Criminal, oh but I can’t mention that since I already lied to Hound Dog and told him nothing happened. I don’t know… there was the whole thing in kamino when we followed you guys to save Kachan but that was also illegal so I shouldn’t mention it in front of a pro hero? I’m just not seeing anything I can mention that isn’t illegal, a secret or under a gag order.
All Might: OKAY! you can sit this one out I’ll talk to Nezu…but seriously we need to look into getting you a therapist. Maybe I can ship one in from America they have pretty air tight NDA’s?
Everyone in that meeting room trying not to breath and get noticed: …
9) Parents teacher conferences, after the dorms are introduced parent teacher conferences occurs soon after. For general education, support and business course students they typically involve the Homeroom teacher and are optional unless the student is failing classes. Due to the Hero course being in more direct contact with villains and danger they are required for all students especially first years. The conference room includes their homeroom teacher in addition to the principal and any additional teachers they come into contact with often. For Midoriya his room consists of Eraserhead, Recovery girl, Nezu, Midnight, Present Mic, Ectoplasm, Hound Dog and Cementos. There are three seats unoccupied at the end of the table, Midoriya and his mother walk into the conference room and sit down introducing themselves politely.
Nezu: Ms. Midoriya-San! It’s great to finally meet the person who’s raised such an upstaging future hero. I have no doubts your son will do great things in the future… are we waiting for anyone else?
Everyother teacher in the room tuning in: …
Inko: Ah! You’ll have to excuse us, my husband is currently away on a business trip! So it’ll be just the two of us.
Mic blinking: Oh? I didn’t know he was busy I could’ve sworn I saw him outside the hall earlier?
Midnight: Shhhhh! We don’t know it’s him?
Mic: Ha? Who else would it be, not like the kids got any other runner ups?
Recovery Girl: Hush!
Eraserhead: ignore our useless faculty. They still haven’t learned to use their inside voice
Inko: ???
Midoriya: What? But There’s no way you saw him outside. I haven’t seen him since I was four when he decided to run off to-
Inko: GO ON A BUSINESS TRIP.
Midoriya:… right, yeah the eleven year long business trip where he lacks access to a phone or bank account.
Midnight: oh my god you owe me money mic.
Mic: We don’t know that! Maybe he’s just not in the picture publicly!
Midnight: No shot the #1 hero is a deadbeat!
Eraserhead: please excuse them. They lack basic dignity and shame.
Nezu: OKAY! Well with that all figured out we can proceed with this conference!
Midoriya: Right!
Inko: Yes…the conference
Nezu: Well academically speaking his grades are exemplary, retaining the top five rank in all his classes, attendance is spotty but all absences are excused due to medical reasons or internships and his attitude is leaving a positive impact on his classmates. All his teachers speak positively of him and his growth since enrolling here is unprecedented! Our only real concerns lie with his tendency to… hmm, how should I put this-
Hound Dog: —engage in Self destructive habits and demonstrate a lack of self preservation.
Recovery Girl: —Push to far past his limits and injure himself without regard for long term consequences.
Mic: —Refuse to rely on those who are ment to keep him safe.
Midnight: —Drag himself into the line of fire dispite the situation not requiring it.
Cementos: — provoke those who could be a danger to him on principle alone.
Ectoplasm: —Find himself directly in the center of every catastrophic situation.
Eraserhead: —disregard his own personal safety and dive head first into danger. Ignore the rules and place himself in harms way. Neglect to ask those around him for help when he needs it.
Nezu: —Yes that! There’s lots of that occurring. Which is a little problematic for a hero hopeful, Or really any child under our care.
Inko: …May I be honest here?
Nezu blinking: Of course,
Midoriya sinking into his seat: … here we go
Inko: Yes, well I have a few concerns of my own. Excuse my bluntness but I have an issue with the tendency this school has of endangering my child. How is it exactly that a fifteen year old finds himself with a risk of nerve damage over a school sports festival? And why are his classmates getting kidnapped? I’ll have you know izuku has always been a rather determined child and he’s never hesitated to help other but I think after the third villain attack we should start looking outwards. I suppose I’m just a little confused as to why I’m sending him to class with four intact limbs and he’s coming back with zero. It feels as if every time I turn on the news his face is plastered on every channel. And what’s this I’m hearing about NDA’s and gag orders? I know I let him come to the dorms but that’s only because All Might himself gave me his word he would be safe. Now I’m hearing whispered phone calls about him fighting the underground yakuza when he’s supposed to be in class? Every time I sign a feild trip permission form it’s like I’m sending him off to war! I’m not asking for much here Nezu-San, all I’m requesting is that he not be maimed by his teachers for exams. And another thing—
All Might barging in: I AM HERE! to attend this meeting. Apologies for my tardiness I got held up!
Midnight: oh?
Mic: give me back the money I told you it was him!
Midnight: WAIT Wait I wanna see what he does-
Eraserhead: Shut up. I’m about to learn vital information.
All might scanning the room and sitting in the only available seat, next to Midoriya and plopping down.
Midoriya: … All Might?
Inko bewildered: … Can I help you?
All Might: Ah! Please ignore me young Midoriya, Midoriya-San!
Nezu:… Toshinori-kun do you… Need something?
All Might: Hmm? No not in particular. Why do you ask?
Nezu: I noticed you… sat down in the seat next to Midoriya, is there something you’d like to share with us?

All Might: is something the matter? I know I wasn’t on the roster for this meeting but I assumed it wouldn’t be an issue considering I’m also one of his teachers? Young Midoriya would you like me to leave? It’s honestly no—
Inko: You know what I actually have a few things you should hear as well. The next time you decide to create a training regiment and food plan for my son please send a few bills in that note. And don’t think haven’t noticed you following him around since middle school! The least you could do is inform me that you’re decided to mentor him before telling him to keep national secrets. When you said you would keep him safe I assumed you ment because he was a student at UA not because you decided to make him your weird hero protege. Explain to me how exactly a child develops a quirk at the age of fifteen All Might. Explain to me how one coincidently develops a quirk identical to yours after fifteen years of being quirkless? I kept quiet because I know how hard it was for him to not have powers for that long and his dreams coming true ment I should support him but it’s rather frustrating when a child is quirkless at 10 in the morning and then at 4 in the evening I get a call from the UA entrance exam informing me not only did he develop one he shattered three of his limbs with it! Don’t get me started on when I found out that you had him clean an entire beach up without protective gear! I know your head is as hard as a rock but some of us have skin that can’t be around old rusty needles-
