Have you ever had your cell phone or mp3 player die while out camping? David Toledo and Paul Slusser have, so they created a solution: the Power Pot, a portable generator fueled by fire that doubles as a cooking pot. More than 1,000 people backed the development of the product on Kickstarter and Power Practical was launched. The producers of Shark Tank liked the product so much they invited the team to appear on the show. David, along with cofounder and VP of Sales Caleb Light, convinced Mark Cuban to give them $250,000 for 12 percent of the company.
Power Practical has now raised more than $1.5 million through six Kickstarter Campaigns – one campaign for each product they have developed. The founders attribute their success to the great relationship they have built with their community; they seek input on products, solicit suggestions for improvements, make needed changes, and keep supporters informed of delivery dates.
