The power of power
We were eating breakfast Sunday (pan-fried toaster waffles), planning our exit strategy-minus-electricity when, at 8:40, we were driven to unbridled jubilation by the sudden return of the beeps, flashes, click and hums common to a modern household.
Electricity! You could almost taste it in the air!
Punching buttons on the slightly odiferous dishwasher, Sharon could hardly contain her joy.
"Just listen to that ," she purred as the machine kicked into its pre-wash cycle.
I sprung from seat and turned on the kitchen faucet. Water!
As they say, you never miss it until, well … you know.
