I’m so over the cycle. I’m so over getting on YouTube to see a bunch of people from the sims community complaining about the game, only to watch the same people give so much attention to and promotion to the next expansion pack.
Like truly this community is something. And the content creators are a big part of the problem, especially those who are a part of EA’s creator network. On the one hand, I get it. They’re in a scenario where they have built their whole livelihoods around this game. They can’t be too critical because this game disappearing or ceasing to do well will directly impact their incomes. But I honestly feel like EA knew what they were doing when it comes to that. They are not a consumer centered business. What we’ve seen from them time and time again, even with games they’ve released outside of the Sims franchise, is money grab after money grab. Their priorities are less about an enjoyable game for people and more about how long they can continue squeezing thousands and thousands of dollars out of their players. Hence why their focus has always been marketing. The Sims 4 has a great visual aesthetic. It’s literally the best thing about the game. And they use that to a fault. They make the prettiest, most exciting looking trailers, hire damn near every relevant rap girl that’s out right now, and do reveals as if they were Apple or Microsoft because their main concern is profit. Yes we know the game isn’t working correctly and rather than fix the game, heres a way to turn off packs that you spent money on. Oh and here’s a distraction in the form of yet another expansion that has features that could have been in previous dlc that was purposely withheld.
But despite all of that, at the end of the day the community continues to buy. So I honestly don’t think anyone should complain anymore because folks in this community don’t put their money where their mouth is. You know who’s noticed that? The developers of InZoi.
I was a lot more excited about InZoi, but that was until I noticed how they started following EAs marketing methods. They were even worse because they literally bought people gaming PCs and PR packages, and we’re supposed to expect “unbiased” reviews from these folks?
They are essentially starting their own “creator network” of people to promote the game for them. Get everyone hype, only to release a game that has barely anything to do in it. And now you’re relying on your content creators to convince people it’s actually a great game and fun and just give it a chance😒. Now something that should just be considered a game update is being labeled as“dlc” for some reason.
I’m already beginning to distrust what they’re doing. Like I said in a previous post, this is not some single developer in his garage, so I didn’t understand why they were releasing in early access to begin with.
The thing is if we compare Paralives to all this. There’s a clear difference. Paralives is a smaller studio and it makes sense that they’re releasing in early access. However. Paralives has been showing us every step of the way how passionate they are about this game. They are developers who actually care about the life sim genre and they want to bring an experience that people have been wanting for a while. Each developer update, we see the details that they focus on. The ways they’re making the game immersive and including things like height differences and directing multiple Paras to do an action at once. Literal quality of life changes. A REAL focus on emotions and reactions to the things that happen to them. Of course there will still be features not included out of the gate, but I get the feeling they won’t lock them behind paywalls.
I thought that was the same thing the InZoi developers were on. But now I’m seeing they just want to take EA’s spot more than they want to provide an enjoyable game and be BETTER than EA. That’s why they directly compare themselves to the Sims in ways that the Paralives team does not.
Anyway, I digress. I’m really over EA and I’m really over the sims community. And I know this is probably random but it only comes to mind because I read some stuff about vampire masquerade bloodlines and how they tried to charge people for “extra” clans and the backlash was so bad that they decided to change that decision.
And I just sigh and think if only the sims community was about that life. But instead y’all act like a battered woman in a toxic/abusive relationship and y’all just keep going back. Cause tell me what other game has $1500 worth of DLC. I’ll wait.
It’s one thing if you just genuinely enjoy the game. But to complain and bitch every moment you can, only to go back to playing it…ima need y’all to stfu cause you ain’t bout nothing you talking bout.
