This is what it looks like when the goal is to make a fun and satisfying game in a genre you love. Their focus are the players. Not the money. The fact that they said they made enough to last them for years (and it’s only early access!) goes to show that their focus is not making billions of dollars.
This game probably made millions and it changed their lives and they’re satisfied and they’re ready to just focus on making the game everything they and possibly we ever wanted a life sim to be. They’re just people like us, using their talents to make something we all enjoy. I respect them so much for that. Congrats to them and I’m so happy they got their coin cause bugs or not, everything that I’ve seen from this game is great. I’m struggling to hold out but I’m giving it till September 😂😂
Also. Are people clocking EA’s brainwashing yet? Y’all caught up? 🤏🏽🤏🏽🤏🏽 Folks act like this genre can’t function without DLC because that is how EA has trained you to think. And yes EA created an eco system for creators to get paid through YouTube content, Patreon, partnerships, sponsorships, etc. Lots of money and free shit to be had. I get it. But sorry, that still doesn’t justify complacency.
Much like a drug dealer, just cause you pay your bills and put food on your table for your family, don’t make it okay that you sell drugs to people in the community. Shout out to whoever knows where that last part is from 😉.
But anywho. Just making a point. Do whatever you want.
Your prerogative.
All I’m saying is the Paralives team are the Devs we’ve been waiting for. What ConcernedApe did for cozy farming games is what this team is going to do for life sims. Mmhmm. I said it.
Paralives looks really good! Seeing how they’ve managed to bring something different to the genre is pretty cool. I like how it’s more gamified versus sandboxy. So you have things that can affect your gameplay in unexpected ways which is a win for me. I’ve always complained that the sims gave you a little too much control at times. Sims 4 is especially too easy in my opinion. You have to force yourself to do a challenge for any real difficulty. But Paralives seems to have that built in with the difficulty levels. I like the way conversations work. Love the open world. Love the look of the game. I know I’m gonna spend way too much time in the paramaker and I might actually get into building with this game!
But, all that being said, the influencers are doing their hype train thing again
More focused on selling the game versus talking about what works and what doesn’t 🙄. After finally finding a video that keeps it real and doesn’t edit out the bugs, I’ve decided to wait versus buying day one. Too many immersion breaking bugs. I’d much rather wait for a few updates, especially with a $40 price tag.
That’s the one thing that’s weird to me. Yes, sims base game was $40 (before it became free to play) but that was a “complete” game…you know what I mean. Both InZoi and now Paralives charging $40 for early access games, I feel is ridiculous. I think early access pricing should have been $25 to $30 at the most, especially for Paralives. Like a supporters deal or something. And then maybe a price increase when the game fully releases. With no birthing animation for labor and delivery, things not selecting, paras floating and levitating, not well optimized. It’s just a lot still wrong with it for $40.
I can be patient. But so far so good. It’s better than InZoi in a lot of ways in my opinion. Where InZoi I felt was trying to be sims 4 but GTA style, I think Paralives is actually innovating on the genre with a lot of their decisions. That’s what’s impressive to me. They’re not trying to be just like the sims. They’re doing quite a few things differently and that excites me. Maybe around the second or third update, I’ll be willing to buy it.
At this point, the conversation has died down. But I’ve been sitting on some thoughts after seeing a few… disappointing responses from creators I really liked at one point. And honestly, I’ve been avoiding saying anything because I’m just a fan of this franchise. I don’t have a platform. I have like 7 followers on here. I mean truly, who am I? Nobody knows me lol. This page used to just be reblogs. I only got vocal once I got fed up with EA and the state of The Sims 4.
But I just watched a video about Rockstar laying off a bunch of people while they were in the process of forming a union. That’s what we call union busting. I had no idea honestly. But something about that set something off in me. If you want the full context to that situation, the video is linked at the end of this post. Watch the whole thing. Depending on how that whole situation turns out, I might be boycotting GTA6 as well.
Watching that made me think: Fuck it. Tough love might be necessary at this point. And even if no one comes across this or engages with it, at least I said my piece…peace? Whatever.
If you’re someone who hates hearing critiques about Sims creators, players, or the people still in the EA Creator Network, this might trigger you. I mean, technically, it is for you and them… but I’m not dragging anybody to the table. If you’re ready for a hard truth, read on.
My frustration with The Sims has always been directed at EA, not at the individual devs. I don’t know them, I don’t follow them, I don’t interact with them. My beef has always been the corporation. But now? Now I’m frustrated with a lot of creators in this community, too. Especially the ones coming up with weird justifications and excuses for why they want to continue playing their beloved game. Granted, some have walked back on that, but others still seem to think they can sit this one out or just go about business as usual.
Here’s the thing, creators: If it’s simply about loving the game, you can play it at home. Privately. Quietly. Nobody needs a Let’s Play to enjoy their save file. Not posting pack reviews shouldn’t keep you from playing your game. Enjoying the game doesn’t require publicly platforming it…
And hell, even if you continue to buy privately, that’s your business.
But what people are asking for, what I’m asking for, is unity. A collective, public stance to show EA and potential investors that the community doesn’t support the direction this sale is heading. Especially when the potential buyer has a documented history of human rights violations, anti-LGBTQ+ policies, and racism. And RACISM black simmers! I might not be able to boycott gas. But I sure as hell can boycott a video game. That’s something I can control.
And please believe these people are not going to take this stuff out of the game. Of course not. They don’t care about what American citizens do. They will leave the diversity and inclusivity so that you can continue playing the game and lining their pockets so they can continue running their government the way they want to. It’s not really about them influencing us. It’s about them maintaining the power in their own country, using the money they make from EA to do it. There’s a reason why it’s become national news.
And no, saying “it might not go through, we won’t know until next year” isn’t a great reason to stay complacent. Speaking out now can influence whether it goes through or not. If people aren’t publicly playing, buying new packs, or promoting EA’s content, that affects revenue. And investors absolutely pay attention to that. So, if you were already planning to pull back if the sale happens… why not start early?
Again, I’m not saying don’t play your game. People have spent literal thousands on this franchise. It would be wild to ask anyone to uninstall that kind of investment. But maybe consider not buying or accepting any new packs. Maybe consider pivoting your public content. Get creative. Branch out. Try other games. Try other genres. The community sees what’s happening. People will support you exploring something new.
And yeah, for some creators, that might be uncomfortable. For some, The Sims is their entire channel or their only hobby. But every collective action in history requires people to sit with a little discomfort. That’s kind of the assignment.
What really threw me, though, was how some creators I liked responded when people respectfully questioned their stance. Some of them gagged me, especially when they framed themselves as victims for being asked to reflect on the impact of their choices. Calling valid critiques “bullying” doesn’t help anybody.
And honestly? For creators saying “there are bigger issues in the world,” um, okay, so which ones are you fighting for, if any? Cause that reason comes across as “there’s too much wrong, so I won’t care about anything”. Is that it?
Cause what we’re asking here is extremely specific and extremely doable: Don’t publicly promote the game for now. That’s it.
Not “give up your phone.”
Not “stop buying clothes.”
Not “quit Starbucks altogether,” even though… why are y’all still going to Starbucks?
Anyway. One battle at a time.
Just… pause your Sims content publicly. That’s all.
If your answer is no? Okay. Stand ten toes down on your no. Own it. Own YOUR choice. But don’t attack people for noticing what that choice communicates. Because at the end of the day, creators can still make money with other content. You can still play Sims privately. You just don’t want to change what you’re doing, whatever your reasons are. And that’s your business. But choices have optics.
Can we also keep in mind that this sale could seriously impact the actual developers? The people who more than likely have student debt that they took on to learn to build games for all of us to enjoy, the people many creators swear they want to protect. Because after watching this video about the Rockstar situation, my mind went to the Sims devs. And those devs are speaking up about the sale too because again, it’s a national conversation now. And yet, creators, some, not all but some of whom might genuinely be making more money than some devs... let that sink in, are having a hard time speaking out. 🧐
If some of these creator responses are gonne be along the lines of “I just want to keep enjoying my happy comfort game,” that’s… fine, I guess. But that's a choice. Don’t be surprised when some of us look at that choice sideways. And my personal opinion? Take a look around at the society we live in. The world we live in. You really think you can avoid being an advocate or activist for something?
So just to be clear. The ideal would be to no longer promote anything EA publicly, including the sims. Don’t buy new packs. I’m sure you can find…other ways of getting them. And do not upload Sims 4 based content publicly.
If you took the blue pill, enjoy business as usual I guess lol. What else can we say to that?
If you took the red pill, reblog this. And let’s do our part in standing up for an industry we care about and the people who make the games we love. And a world we want to see be better and do better.
#boycottEA
Rockstar Union-bust video referenced: https://youtu.be/c9nOwjeznjI?si=rHdQjmc12g5sadMh
The mental Olympics people’s are doing to justify continuing to play the sims is weird. Someone said “what about the metals in your camera? Are you going to boycott cameras because of child labor or are you going to boycott wearing clothes cause of sweatshops”
Trying to minimize something problematic by saying there are other things that are just as problematic is not a good arguing point.
We all know that most companies on this planet do shady shit and have egregious practices. And we also know that just by living on this planet we are putting money towards some of them in some way or in some fashion. It’s pretty impossible to protest everything, everywhere, all at once. So instead, pick a cause (or multiple) and stand ten toes down for it.
But when people say stand for something, that’s what they mean. Even when it’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, or life changing. Even when it loses you money!!!!!!! If you’re passionate enough about that cause, you’ll make the sacrifices. Or you won’t because you don’t care that much. And that’s the reality of the situation.
The point is it’s up to you to decide what you choose to boycott.
And I choose to boycott EA and in turn The Sims franchise as a whole.
But stop using the fact that people can’t boycott everything as an excuse to continue playing the sims. It’s a very weak argument.
Now, excuse me as I return to waiting around for Paralives.
Lmao, one of the firms that bought EA in that $50 billion dollar deal for them to go private? One of the firms was formed by Jared Kushner. Fucking Trump’s son-in-law.
I was no longer playing the game but now I’m not even holding out hope. Definitely no longer interested in the Sims or anything EA. Period. Yes, it’s gotten political for me. I don’t care if he’s not a major part of the firm or whatever. His name is tied to it and anything Trump adjacent is a red flag for me. Period. Don’t be surprised if they back peddle on all that diversity they swear they care about.
Also interesting to learn that EA was $20 billion in debt and that’s being financed through this deal.
(Edit: I misunderstood what I read. They went in debt as a result of this buyout apparently. But everything else still stands lol.)
No wonder making money was their first and only priority. And with this deal I’m sure it will continue to be.
I’d be dead shocked if anything positive comes from this. Regardless, it’s a little too connected to Trump now for me to feel comfortable with anything EA does.
In case you want to read what I read
EA has confirmed it has agreed to be acquired by an investor group composed of PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners in a transaction valu
I’m so over the cycle. I’m so over getting on YouTube to see a bunch of people from the sims community complaining about the game, only to watch the same people give so much attention to and promotion to the next expansion pack.
Like truly this community is something. And the content creators are a big part of the problem, especially those who are a part of EA’s creator network. On the one hand, I get it. They’re in a scenario where they have built their whole livelihoods around this game. They can’t be too critical because this game disappearing or ceasing to do well will directly impact their incomes. But I honestly feel like EA knew what they were doing when it comes to that. They are not a consumer centered business. What we’ve seen from them time and time again, even with games they’ve released outside of the Sims franchise, is money grab after money grab. Their priorities are less about an enjoyable game for people and more about how long they can continue squeezing thousands and thousands of dollars out of their players. Hence why their focus has always been marketing. The Sims 4 has a great visual aesthetic. It’s literally the best thing about the game. And they use that to a fault. They make the prettiest, most exciting looking trailers, hire damn near every relevant rap girl that’s out right now, and do reveals as if they were Apple or Microsoft because their main concern is profit. Yes we know the game isn’t working correctly and rather than fix the game, heres a way to turn off packs that you spent money on. Oh and here’s a distraction in the form of yet another expansion that has features that could have been in previous dlc that was purposely withheld.
But despite all of that, at the end of the day the community continues to buy. So I honestly don’t think anyone should complain anymore because folks in this community don’t put their money where their mouth is. You know who’s noticed that? The developers of InZoi.
I was a lot more excited about InZoi, but that was until I noticed how they started following EAs marketing methods. They were even worse because they literally bought people gaming PCs and PR packages, and we’re supposed to expect “unbiased” reviews from these folks?
They are essentially starting their own “creator network” of people to promote the game for them. Get everyone hype, only to release a game that has barely anything to do in it. And now you’re relying on your content creators to convince people it’s actually a great game and fun and just give it a chance😒. Now something that should just be considered a game update is being labeled as“dlc” for some reason.
I’m already beginning to distrust what they’re doing. Like I said in a previous post, this is not some single developer in his garage, so I didn’t understand why they were releasing in early access to begin with.
The thing is if we compare Paralives to all this. There’s a clear difference. Paralives is a smaller studio and it makes sense that they’re releasing in early access. However. Paralives has been showing us every step of the way how passionate they are about this game. They are developers who actually care about the life sim genre and they want to bring an experience that people have been wanting for a while. Each developer update, we see the details that they focus on. The ways they’re making the game immersive and including things like height differences and directing multiple Paras to do an action at once. Literal quality of life changes. A REAL focus on emotions and reactions to the things that happen to them. Of course there will still be features not included out of the gate, but I get the feeling they won’t lock them behind paywalls.
I thought that was the same thing the InZoi developers were on. But now I’m seeing they just want to take EA’s spot more than they want to provide an enjoyable game and be BETTER than EA. That’s why they directly compare themselves to the Sims in ways that the Paralives team does not.
Anyway, I digress. I’m really over EA and I’m really over the sims community. And I know this is probably random but it only comes to mind because I read some stuff about vampire masquerade bloodlines and how they tried to charge people for “extra” clans and the backlash was so bad that they decided to change that decision.
And I just sigh and think if only the sims community was about that life. But instead y’all act like a battered woman in a toxic/abusive relationship and y’all just keep going back. Cause tell me what other game has $1500 worth of DLC. I’ll wait.
It’s one thing if you just genuinely enjoy the game. But to complain and bitch every moment you can, only to go back to playing it…ima need y’all to stfu cause you ain’t bout nothing you talking bout.
It’s the weirdest thing to do something specifically with the goal to get under peoples skin. Cause that’s all I believe it is. Laziness and wanting to get under people’s skin. Like do you not have anything better to do?
The person who came up with the “anti-DEI” mod had absolutely nothing to do with their lives but crave attention because really?
The sims is a sandbox game that you can play however you want. That means if you don’t want to have any lgbt people in your game…don’t. If you don’t want to have anyone who don’t look like you in your game…don’t. I’m black. I very rarely played with or created white sims. Just my preference. I don’t see many characters who look like me in anything else, so guess what? Pretty much all the sims I play with are black. Especially sims in the base worlds and San Myshuno or Del Sol Valley. Am I going to worlds like the one that came with For Rent and making everyone black? No. But that’s just me. I don’t feel like EVERYONE has to be straight or look like me. But if you’re racist and bigoted, by all means be racist and bigoted in YOUR game because it’s a SANDBOX.
So when you can easily delete, create, or just download sims that look exactly how you want, and have body shapes that look exactly how you want, and have sexual orientations and gender identities be exactly what you want….in your sandbox game that no one even has to see you play aside from the people who maybe live with you…creating a “mod” that changes everyone white, flat bootied 🤣🤣 and straight is clearly a cry for attention and a desire to stir up mess.
And I wish people would recognize shit like that and not pay it any attention. The way sim creators were making videos about this mod had me rolling my eyes. Like why are y’all falling for the rage bait?
Maybe cause they know rage bait will bring views to their page too? Hmmm. Yeah these YouTube simmers need to be held more accountable. There’s a couple that come to mind for me who do this “let me jump on the [fake] woke train and talk about some stuff that I probably personally don’t care about but it’ll get clicks.”
Anyway. I could give a fuck less how someone chooses to play their game. What does your racist gameplay have to do with me?
But because they need some attention, someone to argue with, or just hoping to make certain groups of people upset, they do shit like that “mod”.
Maybe if we legit ignore certain shit, people will realize their foolishness has absolutely no effect on anyone but themselves. But of course instead everyone gives them attention, including me with addressing it in this post. But I’m only addressing it to encourage people to ignore shit like that.
There’s nothing to defend, say, or talk about. A racist made a mod, so tf what? Don’t download it, don’t share it and only let the racist talk about it and expose themselves as people to stay away from. That’s all.
Go on bout your day and don’t let anyone succeed in messing up your mood or making you upset when it’s obvious that’s what they set out to do. Cause please believe that nonsense had no effect on me. Don’t have DEI in your game lmao. Who gives a fuck?! You’re not a game developer. You have no control over what happens on the sims. My game (although I gave up on the sims) is, was and will always be beautifully melanated bitch, with the girls, the gays, the dolls, and everyone else and I know I ain’t the only one.
Ain’t been on here in a min but damn! So many notes on my posts. Shout out to yall!
Sooo InZoi… I have thoughts.
Really just one thought. Something that I said in an older post too but I think I was talking about Life By You.
Early Access.
I was cool with it at first cause I figure, oh they’re probably not that big a studio. They’re gonna need help. Then found out about the PubG and MMO bit that we all know now. And then we actually got InZoi and I was like, yeah no. Why couldn’t yall cook for longer? So much potential, yes. A lot of things I’ve seen in people’s play throughs that I liked. But let’s be real, it was a lot of hype for little pay off. The game is way more underdeveloped than I thought it would be.
Im honestly starting to get tired of this. Early access is great for small studios and especially single person developers. But when you’re a big studio, with a big budget, releasing early access games, it gets a big sigh out of me. They hide behind, we’re just trying to gather player feedback, but honestly you’re never going to please everyone. Just make the game you want to make and hope for the best. The players shouldn’t have to hold your hand through the process. Asking for ideas if you need them, sure. Having people vote on a few things, I get it. But there are literal years worth of comments from simmers complaining about what’s not in the game or what they would want from a life sim that the InZoi team could have researched through. So what’s the point of early access other than to get people to pay regular price for a game that is half baked?
Everyone is so money focused that it’s killing creativity. Devs from other studios out here sounding like EA with this expectation for people to pay $80 for games. I’m actually enjoying the resurgence of games that look “old” or “outdated graphics” but phenomenal gameplay and story with $30-$40 price tags. I can even do $60 for a AAA. But not everything has to be UNREAL ENGINE 25 (I’m screaming in sarcasm) and we really don’t need to have million and billion dollar budgets for video games. No wonder they’re so terrified about a game flopping. But newsflash, games and movies are not the same. With everything that has to happen and the many people who have to come together to make a live action film, the million dollar budgets are warranted.
But in the gaming world, you really don’t NEED all that to make a game. So trying to justify selling a game for $80 because you did a bunch of extra shit you didn’t have to do is not enough to convince me to part with my $80. Hell movie tickets are still way cheaper.
And maybe it’s just me but I got games rotting in PlayStation cloud heaven right now. Shit I forgot I even had. Why sink so much money into a medium like that? And sure now the goal is to make games more like movies you can live in but eh…it’s getting all too Ready Player One for me. I love to escape into games but I also don’t need them taking over my whole life, Mr. Kojima. How about no, I don’t want a game that somewhat punishes me for not being on it all the time.
That was a tangent more about games in general than InZoi. My bad.
My point is I wish the InZoi team would have stayed in the kitchen waaaaay longer. Early access is cool if the game is mostly finished and they just want feedback for the last touches, but at this point, it feels like they’re tryna get the players to help develop the game for them. Like literally gave us the bare minimum foundation, looked up and said ‘now what else do you want again?’
But that’s literally their job! I’m just here to play the game dude. Not tell you how to make it.
I’m a creative myself. I write. And I utilize beta readers and all that. But I don’t ask them what to write. I don’t ask them what should this character do. Or where I should go with this scene. I write what I want and then I get their thoughts.
I think that’s more along the lines of what Paralives is doing and honestly, I have more faith in that team than any other to give us a modern life sim that is somewhat similar to the sims…bars? 😅
Hopefully InZoi gets better but I sure wish they had put in more work before releasing it. All that money they spent on buying new computers for players to review their game could have went on actually developing the game!
I keep seeing articles about InZoi not being a Sims killer and I’m just like
But I get it cause for some people, that really was the expectation.
But something I’ve said from the beginning is that the sims franchise needs competition. I’ve also said that none of the games coming would some how eliminate the sims. It’s entirely too big of a franchise, and like I’ve said in posts before, it’s EA’s bread and butter. They’re not just going to give up on the sims due to competition like they did with Sim City. They just didn’t give a fuck to try again with Sim City cause they hadn’t made anything from that franchise in decades anyway. “Sim killer” in my definition means something that could become more popular than the sims, regulating the sims to the proverbial backseat of the life simulator genre. But not to actually make the sims go away entirely. It’s never going away. The hope is that with competition, they do better. They feel pushed to do better. That’s why I’ve always said if you’re a sims fan, play the game you want. And stop attacking the devs of the other games because their goal is not to kill off the sims. Even if it was, which I do view Paralives trying very hard to be sims like (ie direct competition), it’s still not going to kill them off.
I think players expectations of a sims killer got to the devs of InZoi too because the way the lead dev had to come out and say hey we love and admire the sims team and have the utmost respect for what they do, was definitely them trying to avoid their game crashing and burning due to unfairly high expectations. Or trying to avoid sims fans review bombing with negativity.
From the first trailer, and bits of information we’ve received since, InZoi is not the sims. It’s not going to play like the sims. It’s just the same genre. So I’m looking forward to the new gameplay mechanics that InZoi brings that’s not based on things the sims franchise has done. And I look forward to the things that maybe the sims franchise HAS done and InZoi just improved upon it. I’m also looking forward to changes and improvement because it is early access after all. But either way, I want it to be its own, unique thing. I still look forward to Paralives more than InZoi, only cause that’s a life sim I would actually want to play on the pc that gives me a closer to sims experience vibe. But InZoi is literally a god simulator. I mean you’re controlling cities with 300 people living in them… 300 people per city by the way. That’s insane. I do love the idea of the npc’s being powered by AI so that they can live lives completely out of my control. Interacting with the environment around them on their own and even starting relationships or families on their own? I love that! I like legacy play so I’m with a particular household for a long fucking time. I want the world around them to change and grow with them with out my direct influence, so I look forward to that.
And before you start preaching, no I do not believe AI is inherently bad. Like all new technologies it’s going to bring change, but what’s important is how it’s used and what it’s used for. There are very clear lines in the sand for things that AI shouldn’t be used for. But it doesn’t make AI inherently evil. People doing nefarious shit with the AI like trying to rob actors of their likeness and voices without proper compensation, consent, or notification, that’s evil. Not trying to convince you of anything though, just making it clear where I stand.
But I know Paralives is probably not going to do the same thing. I’m sure it’ll be a bit more similar to sims as far as control over the town. I mean story progression would be nice at least.
Anywho, before I get too far from my point, these are fun times. I mean, not really but in regards to gaming 😅. I’m not playing InZoi in early access, but I’m looking forward to seeing the gameplay of others and learning more about the game. And we’ve been promised but I hope it does eventually come to consoles cause InZoi on a PS5?! 🤌🏽. Talk about visually stunning. Outside of the Urbz and maybe Castaways (never played that one), the sims have failed at console versions in my opinion so I really want that void filled. Cause I play more on console than pc and I love this new era of pc games coming to console.
So I guess the articles are called for in a sense but let’s just all give the game a fair shot. I’m begging you….
It actually makes me sad to see where the game is now. And it made me laugh to hear people going back to the sims and sims 2 complaining about how hard it is. The sims franchise has always been rated T, but it wasn’t until sims4 that it truly became something that felt marketed to kids and so watered down that it provided no challenge. But when older sim players say things referencing that, we’re told we complain too much and to be grateful lol 🙄. Oh and EA completely ignoring sims 3 is diabolical.
Sooo I’m genuinely not sure what I’m doing with this blog. I’ve pretty much checked out of the sims franchise and not sure I’ll be coming back. It’s just been too much news lately that has left me disappointed and feeling like the game I grew up with is done and will no longer exist in the way that I want it to. And I’m just not the type to spend money on something out of “loyalty”. I’m not loyal to corporations.
EA’s decisions when it comes to the sims just doesn’t match what I want for a life sim game. I’m not interested in multiplayer, not interested in mobile or “on the go” versions of the game, and definitely not interested in the Sims 4ever.
So maybe this will turn into an InZoi/Paralives blog whenever those games fully release, but I won’t be reblogging anything sims 4 in the meantime. So this page will look dead.
Maybe if some news comes up that I feel like talking about, I’ll post something here. Or maybe if some changes happen or we somehow end up with a sims 5, I’ll be back. But until then, enjoy playing the games you enjoy, whichever ones that may be, and I’ll be doing the same.
