Two Chinese Women's Army Corps (WACs) members and a former POW gaze at a portrait of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek at the "Peach Gardens" (桃園) reception camp in Formosa (Taiwan), April 1954. The inscription beneath the portrait calls for the liberation of mainland China from Communist rule. Some 14,500 Chinese Korean War prisoners who refused repatriation to the mainland were resettled here following the 1953 armistice. (United Press, April 16, 1954)
