Prowl of Petrex has signed himself over to the Primacy as an indentured servant. His contract, however unreasonable, seems worth weathering after the fall of Praxus in exchange for the safety of his only remaining family. Meanwhile, Jazz keeps himself busy these days as part of the ragtag group of revolutionaries who have been drawn to a charismatic young archivist by the name of Orion Pax. He’s been working on the outskirts of the Cybertronian caste system his entire life, and has a lifetime of tricks from just about every trade. Being Orion Pax’s righthand mech is a hard enough job, but it only gets harder when the unrest comes to a head, changing all of their lives at once, and putting Jazz at the center of the very system he has fought against…

And then, of course, that’s not even bringing up the illegal sparkling, Senator Proteus’s machinations, or Prowl’s TacNet acting strangely.

So a few months ago, Hinn texted @renaroo and said "I know I'm working on Autonomous Beings right now but I had an idea about giving Prowl PPD."

Neither of us expected it to take on quite so much of a life as it did. This thing is going to be long, and get pretty dark. It also takes a lot of liberties with canon and diverges sharply from several points of fanon, so you may catch yourself going "wait that's not how it happened in IDW" (IDW being our most obvious influence for this AU).

Fandom influences that we'd be remiss without shouting out include "you, me, and the corpse makes three” by madmaenad, which gave us the idea to play with indentured servants as a systemic underclass. There's probably more that we're not thinking of off the bat, but we referenced that fic a few times while worldbuilding for this.

We're hoping to update every Wednesday, and we've got a good buffer built up so we'll be sticking with that for a little while at least.

Hello! I just wanted to ask more about the new fic coming up you mentioned in the latest chapter of Autonomous Beings. I saw it was still prowl centered and im just really curious on the plot 😺😺😺

So it's a project that me and my darling @renaroo started noodling one day when I texted her and said

"you know what if we give Prowl post-partum depression"

90,000 words later... (her fault, I've been writing AB and have barely had time to help out)

The basic premise is that Prowl for plot reasons, has a secret illegal baby (Springer) and is really struggling with his mental and physical health in the aftermath. Which was already hard when Sentinel was running the show, but now there's a new guy in charge, and the new guy's chief of intelligence wants to run a background check on Prowl, and his life just got even more complicated.

Meanwhile Jazz is trying to keep Optimus alive while literally everyone's trying to kill him and he REALLY NEEDS THIS PROWL GUY TO STOP BEING SUSPICIOUS.

It's got an insane amount of world building (because it's me) and it's also a bit dark, a bit absurd, and it features Prowl and Elita being friends ala Earthspark.

Does ppd prowl stand for postpartum depression because I’d be so excited for that. I keep telling people that that robot was made to have postpartum depression and they keep telling me to stop talking

It DOES stand for postpartum depression. We are giving him a baby (Springer) and PPD AND the baby is illegal and he's got to hide it from everyone.

(You're SO RIGHT that he's made to have Postpartum Depression. And maybe some Postpartum Rage for good measure.)

Last chapter of the prologue! We did not plan to do a three part prologue when we started outlining but it got so long we decided to split it up.

But now the dominoes are just about all set up, and it's time to start knocking things down!

Finger crossed the PPD prowl fic continues the trend from Glories and Disgraces and Autonomous Beings were Prowl spends part of the fic being terrified by ‘obviously threatening Jazz’ while Jazz is completely oblivious to this part of their dynamic. It’s such a fun form of the ‘miscommunication’ trope

It's such a good trope. Jazz is going to be slightly more aware of it here than he has been in other fics... but uh. He's going to be off. By a lot.
