Hey guys! I need your help! I am making plans to move back to LA next summer (temporarily) so I can intern at an LA based public relations agency or any type of marketing/communications position. My college town is pretty small, so PR jobs are slim. I need a paid internship in the LA area, preferably somewhere near the metro. I'm a college junior, majoring in PR. I'm pretty open to any field of PR... but I love the art, fashion, and sustainability industries. Any ideas of where I should apply? Any advice would help, thanks guys!
PR Intern Diaries :: Jalesa
Between class and work, the last few weeks have felt like a test of mental perseverance and creativity. I realize now more than ever is the time to really show what I have to offer professionally and academically. This week Ive learned that being busy and productive are two completely different things—busy for me looks like frantically multitasking and working hard to get things done. For the record I dislike being busy, I prefer to be productive or to work smart by optimizing my time on any project I’m currently working on. And whether or not I’m productive depends almost entirely on the little things I do in the wee hours of the morning and evening. One of the things Ive enforced is “homework” for my clients over the weekend—thats right I’ve created my own mandatory homework (I promise I’m not insane).
On the weekend I binge on news looking for any local or national trends that could support an angle I’m working on or lead for a unique angle to pitch a client. At the end of the day I try to put the finishing touches on a pitch I plan to send out the next day. Once a pitch is approved I’ll set up a few emails to be sent out the next morning. Finally the morning before I actually leave for work, I like to sit down over my first cup of coffee of the day and write down an intention or goal. I even write out what I expect to accomplish at different times of the day (usually my day is broken up between BL (Before Lunch) and AL (After Lunch). Writing clear and defined goals for the day is my biggest tip for having a productive day. Your goals will keep you focused on the bottom line and how you can go about getting there.
