1)Hello! I'm a 24 y/o female INFP. Recently I've started a new apprenticeship and since two weeks we're doing only practical things. My problem is, that I come across as very absent minded and unsure of myself, I think even as dumb. My instructor sometimes asks me if something is wrong because I apparently look unsettled und questioning. I've also noticed that my partner (we're often working together as partners) does not believe me when she (I believe an ENTP) is unsure of something and I know
[con’t: answer. She completely ignores me and asks someone else. This has happened a few times and is starting to irritate me. But I don’t really blame her for that since I know that I am often very unsure of my own judgement (especially when it comes to practical things, when it’s something theoretical people believe me more often). I actually like her and I think she also likes me so dislike can’t be the reason for this behaviour. But I need to do something so I can come across as reliable and sure of myself. Why do I often not believe myself? I also tend to often ask other people for confirmation of something I actually know. Because I don’t trust my own judgement, because I think I can never be 100% sure and I don’t want to do/say something wrong. How can I start to change that? (Also: Your blog is so helpful and interesting. I’ve already made a lot of progress because of it and I always look forward to friday when you answer new questions :) Thank you. You inspire me.)]
Today, the Cool Teacher took us to his (quite far but super awesome) lab so we could do some practical work. And yeah, moving blocks and models in running water IS more interesting than solving equations ^^
We studied the behavior of an incompressible fluid (aka water) to simulate gas flows in a compressible state (aka the gas in a propelling nozzle).
by Oswald Chambers | The great enemy of the Lord Jesus Christ today is the idea of practical work that has no basis in the New Testament but comes from the systems of the world. This work insists upon endless energy and activities, but no private life with God...
LARGE SCALE NET DEVELOPMENTS
After reflecting on the large scale continuous line experimentation I completed a few weeks ago I realized that the experiments hadn't helped to explore my project theme of Consumerist Beauty to its full potential.
The continuous line succeeded in providing a connection of my theme to the audience by using faces, something relatable. However the theme wasn’t clearly perceived in the drawings which was also discussed during a peer review with another student who is also focusing on installation.
I decided to develop the experiments by changing the size of the paper; I created a packaging net outline and cut the paper out to resemble the shape of nets that have previously featured within my project (photo manipulation near the beginning). To exaggerate the net I also created the dashed lines with a pink paint marker to make the lines and idea of manipulation appear contrasting against the monochromatic continuous line.
I am glad that I revisited these experiments to push the context of the practical work further because the outcome has been successful in my opinion. Additionally, revisiting larger scale has inspired me for my exhibition work/ final outcome.
As I am intending on creating an installation, I am confident that I can synthesize this experiment into the final outcome, even as a walking path for the audience which feeds into the idea of interactive exhibitions.
ADDITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY DEVELOPMENT Inspired by an image from an unknown artist on Pinterest, I completed this set of edits combing my object and street photography together to highlight the connection between consumers and beauty ideals. To create the edits I used the lasso tool on Photoshop to messily cut the objects out of the original image and placed them onto monochromatic versions of my street photography. I placed the object photography images in the way of the models composition such as blocking the face. I felt that this composition made the developments successful because it symbolises the idea of buying beauty and materialism. Additionally, once I printed the edits out, I also added dashed lines to emphasis the images being cut out. Alternatively, the dashed lines also link back to my experimentation with packaging nets and holds on to the idea of manipulation. To improve these edits I would use white marker for all of them, initially I tried red marker however it doesn’t appear as contrasting or striking.
Social Media Content: Merchandise
In addition to featuring physical media and tour posters, the social media pages of both Beabadoobee and Death Grips feature merchandise. As such, I looked at both their full merchandise collections to gather both inspiration and an understanding of how artists utilise merchandise to strengthen their branding.
In a similar vein to the tour posters, the merchandise designs correspond to the album artwork, however with minute differences. Though very similar, the merchandise does offer an alternative perspective to the album artwork, such as The Money Store featuring the figures' full bodies and Beatopia featuring text at the bottom. This allows for variation yet cohesion in design, making the brand feel enriched and authentic.
Creation Process
Though I had two variant artworks to choose from, I had fully utilised both of them. As such, I decided to follow a similar route to Beabadoobee through adding text to the bottom. I chose to use the album name as opposed to the artist name to demonstrate my artist's stronger emphasis on music over identity. I did however, create a variant hoodie design which featured the artwork on the back of the CD.
Final Merchandise
Overall, I feel these designs are very strong and appealing whilst still feeling unique and cohesive.
