Shoot one
This practice shoot allowed me to form a relationship with my model where I had an informal conversation asking him about his way of living with his skin condition.
Practice Shoot 2
I started off this shoot using the kaleidoscope but this was a total disaster. The lens is obviously quite a lot bigger than the one on my phone and you cannot see through the glass at all, unless it is pointed at a bright light and then all you can see is the light. My plan is to buy a bigger kaleidoscope.
I moved on from this for now and used the mirror for the rest of the shoot, getting good and then mediocre results. I held the mirror underneath the buildings so it looked like they were reflecting on water and i really like how it turned out.
I went too late in the evening so it was slightly too dark and some of my images were blurry because I didn’t use a tripod. I went to Aldgate and the buildings were too close to be able to really get the effect I wanted, also it was practically rush hour so it was hard to get a shot where people weren’t in the background. The mirror was quite hard to position to get good results and most of the buildings behind me that were in the reflection were too similar to the ones at the front of the camera. I srill think the mirror is a good idea and I will use it in wales. I will try all these methods again in wales and see if they are any better with mountains instead of buildings, and if they are I might abandon the London part of the project and focus on Wales instead.
Practice Shoot 1
I practiced taking photographs out of my bedroom window while holding a mirror in front of the lens. My room is on the 13th floor and overlooks the construction work in Wembley, so this is quite symbolic of the life I’m building here, and hence why I chose to do it. I quite liked how some of them turned out, but there is a clear issue with the focus on my camera as nearly every photo that was developed from it is blurry even though it looked focused through the view finder. The mirror I used had a white border around it which is visible in the image and creates a separation which I do not like, and for the next shoot I shall use a mirror with a free edge. The images also all have a yellow tint to them and are dark and not ‘contrasty’, I think this is due to the way they were developed and printed at Snappy Snaps, in the future I will develop them in the university facilities to avoid this. I like where this has taken the project, however, and I will improve upon all these points in the next shoot.
Desire.
Practice Shoot: Breakfast
I just woke up one morning and decided to film how I prepare my most favourite breakfast--oats and wheat bread! Well, I just really want to practice filming more. I used my Flip Camera to film this. I reckon the shots could’ve been better if I used a DSLR and a good lighting! I guess, I really need to invest on a new camera. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about Canon T3i and 60D! But if you have any camera suggestions for beginners, please let me know! For now, I hope this 720p short clip will do! Make sure you watch it on HD!
Have a great week ahead of you!
