Dog Whistling to Moneyed Interests

Pay attention to the politicians who call themselves pragmatic progressives or progressives who like to get things done or some other euphemism for the centrist progressive, a true contradiction in terms.

This phraseology and posturing is nothing more than a dog whistle to the wealthy donor class. Sure, some centrists and liberals will hear these words and think, "I like progress. I like progress being accomplished. The other progressives are unrealistic or ineffective." That's by design.

And, as with all dog whistles, there's a designed subtext. In this case, Wall Street, Big Pharma, and other powerful institutions' leaders, donors, and lobbyists hear something entirely different: "don't worry, I say some progressive things to play to the crowd, but know you don't have anything to worry about with me in charge."
