Anti shippers are just "American feelings yakuza"
“As long as problematic media is censored, then it's okay.” Well, here's the thing: governments have varying definitions of what constitutes "problematic," which means ANYTHING can end up being deemed obscene. There are countries where LGBTQ+ media and porn are punishable by law with imprisonment or execution.
Let's also include that we should have the freedom to decide what media we engage with and form our personal opinions on it. Your discomfort and disgust shouldn't be used as grounds to get something banned because we've repeatedly seen how these feelings are weaponized by governments to justify bannings.
Censorship isn't and never will be your friend because it's a tool used by governments to eradicate privacy, control information and communication, and criminalize whatever they deem "immoral."
A genuine question for antishippers: why are you even on Ao3?
Ao3 was specifically designed for proshippers by proshippers, because other places on the internet - like LiveJournal and ff.net - had been ruined by fandom policing and purity culture. So proshippers made a place for themselves, an archive of their own, where they could be left alone.
So why aren't antis just leaving it alone? Why can't you understand that you're not welcome somewhere if you're going to harass, bully or hate on real people for what they enjoy in fiction?
Why are you trying to infiltrate and change a place that wasn't made for you in the first place?
Ok, I'm gonna be REAL controversial for a second:
Saying "incest and underage fics are ok because it's usually CSA survivors recontextualizing/processing their own experience" is just purity culture lite. It's like saying "Birth control should be legal because some people use it for non-birth control related purposes" or "abortion needs to be legal because women can die without it."
Yes, these are TRUE and IMPORTANT things. But kind of... not the point?
Kind of giving way to the antis, the puritanical right, the misogynists who just want to control women (because you KNOW they aren't thinking about trans men or nonbinary people when they legislate abortion).
Lemme see if I can explain: by saying "look at this VALID and IMPORTANT reason someone might have for doing the thing you don't like," you are saying that there are invalid reasons for it. That some people shouldn't do it.
You are saying that it is objectively wrong, and that exceptions must be made for it to be okay. And putting aside the fact that NO ONE should have to disclose their personal trauma for judgement, that no one should have to disclose their personal medical history to a judge or legislator before receiving treatment... you are conceding the point.
I refuse to concede anything on this.
I like fucked up fic, I like being able to fuck without getting pregnant, I like that if my birth control fails I can still make a choice about whether or not I want to be pregnant and give birth. I WILL NOT go into my reasons on ANY of this. Because YOU do not have a right to that information, and I am also protecting the privacy of everyone else who does not want to share their reasons.
I find it pathetic when adults blame teenagers for the rising censorship instead of the ADULT politicians, who create and pass censorship laws. They call teenagers “puriteens” and claim all this censorship is their fault despite them having no power to implement it and also suffering its effects. Politicians are implementing age verification, censoring websites, and banning pornographic and queer material, not fucking 14-year-olds on Twitter.
DNIs are fucking stupid and useless for a lot of reasons. But my favorite is when someone has a DNI (specifically against proshippers) then get pissed off if people in the fandom block them preemptively for it
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted your DNIs enforced? Or are they actually just a show you put on to feel moral and good
Antis be like: ewww you ship Luffy with Law, that’s so problematic.
Tired old fed up me: you cunts I ship Luffy with Shanks also, what you gonna do?
Send me to the shipper jail?
I have done many fandom crimes, shipping Luffy and Law is not one of them.
