Hurricane Eta issue in Honduras
Hello, this is Kency, the girl who made that huge ass post about what is happening right now in Honduras because of hurricane Eta. I shared the links of GoFundMe and PayPal of actual honduran citizens and not government or state organizations for a reason. And that reason has been happening for way too long already. First of all I’d like to talk about the embezzlement that is going on right now with the hurricane situation. The government knew from the beginning that the hurricane was going to cause huge destruction, but they instead decided to promote the Morazanic holiday (a week of vacation we celebrate by going to the country’s touristic places) because the money that is received by the tourism sector is huge. They never issued the alerts of evacuation. So here we have the consequences, because they wanted the holiday to happen in the middle of a pandemic and a hurricane just for the money. Now that we are in this situation all the politicians have dissapeared, all of the ones that promised help to the honduran people. And abandoned by the governt who have done nothing, the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele offered help to Honduras by sending supplies and 100 rescuers, to what the government and the asshole of a president we have oppossed. After the pressure, protests, and taunts they let them come inside our country. After this issue the government decided to be clowns and “donate” a survival kit valued in 46k lempiras (national currency) that actually costs 4k Lempiras. There are hundreds of testimonies of citizens and micro entrepreneurs thave gone to shelters to donate what they have to the damaged people and have witnessed how politicians, members of the government organs and the National politic party (the party who’s in power rn) have just gone to scream and shout to the volunteers, give them orders while humiliating them and just taking a picuture giving plates of food that they never bought. It’s the volunteering people who have given them, they just go there, take a picture giving off the plates to post on social media and then LEAVE. We are truly enraged by this. And this is nothing new, I can go off all day. Throughout the sanitary emergency bc of covid, the CNA (independent civil society body that fights off corruption) has released 12 reports called “Corruption in times of Covid” that demonstrates and shows off with receipts all the money that has been stolen, including international help admist all of this pandemic. The 9.1M dollar budget has been so embezzled. With 3.6M lempiras overrated in biosecurity equipment and 47M dollars paid for mobile hospitals equipped with precarious and useless equipment. This is just the tip pf the iceberg. Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to honduran citizens, we appreciate it very much. I just want to spread awaress of the situation we have to face off in here. We are so tired of it, we want justice for a country that has been stomped on, looted and mocked for too long.
